LEGO GAF |OT2|: Building Dreams. Demolishing Wallets

I finally assembled Jay Storm Fighter but I'm a little disappointed that the mechanism doesn't work as intended. The hinge pieces are too tight so the rubber band doesn't have enough strength to pull them. Still a really nice and fun to build model though.

Day one for me.

Meanwhile, the UK LEGO stores are holding off selling the new Super Heroes sets until Jan 1st - hopefully the Galaxy Squad sets go live then too. Keep seeing Chima everywhere else, but that's really not for me.

[IMG]http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo137/ruxtpin/eeeee.gif

I just ordered another Minecraft and Medieval Market Village from S@H. Once that Palace drops, I think I'm going to go to the local store and get PetShop and Palace Cinema at the same time.

I had no, and i mean NO prior interest in modular buildings so far... but fuck me if that Cinema doesn't look gorgeous!!! Being a huge movie/cinema fan as well doesn't help matters, i might just have to jump on this :( or is it :) ?

The roof takes a lot of cues from Mann's Chinese Theatre, doesn't it? I was hoping for Radio City Music Hall type of corner style cinema or Empire Theatre style. Nevertheless, it looks absolutely gorgeous.

Alright guys give me the skinny on how to wash my ancient Lego bricks in the washing machine!! I DID read that apparently it is not really recommended to do this, but then i also read that some people do this all the time and it works just fine so...?

I assume i have to put them in a washing bag right? How about max. temperature, no spinning cycle etc?

Goddamit Lego, you're killin' me!!

I'm limiting myself to Super Hero sets, modulars, and various city sets to compliment both. However, I may get a cheap turtles set or two as well. 2013 is going to be a crazy year for Lego.

Will buy. Makes my decision to purchase Diagon Alley over Grand Emporium feel like the right one.

I still have Gringotts to build of that set - really enjoyed the first two builds, though I hate how top heavy Ollivanders is. I'll have to put it onto a baseplate or something. It's even more of a shame considering how cool the interior is.

I'm also chock full of ideas of things to build, because holy hell does Diagon Alley provide you with a ton of windows. Those and the column bits from Gringotts are just begging to be put into a custom modular of some kind.

I just filled the kitchen sink with hot water and a little bit of dish soap, then put my legos in a pillow case and dunked them. I put my hand in the bag and rustled them around for a bit, then drained the sink and rinsed them well, to get rid of any soap residue.

Washing took about 10min and I set them outside overnight to dry (but this was in the summer).

Built the Fire Brigade yesterday. Looks really nice. Don't think I'm going to go modular crazy as this set does stand well on its own.

Obligatory "dat second floor" comment.

You think it looks good by itself. But once you see it next to another building...the fortress is taken. It is over!

And also, "dat second floor" strikes again!

There it is... Finally! And it is a corner building! And it looks stunning!

Sweet mother of god! It is gorgeous! And it is a corner like I thought it would be. Best way to have an awesome marquee on the building. I WANTS IT! I WANTS IT NOW!

But I am slightly disappointed at the size of it. I was really hoping they would just go insane and give us a 48x48 modular building and have a monster theater with tons of seats. However, the detail in just that tiny little pic is stunning.

And this is a Jamie set, right? Hopefully not that lady that did Town Hall. She did a good job and all, but it felt like a substitute teacher coming in after what Jamie did with the other buildings.

The palace cinema looks fantastic.

Does anyone know where I can find the creator sonic boom set for a decent price?

Amazon has it for $75 right now. Only $15 above MSRP, which is not too horrible for an OOP set.
Sonic Boom really is awesome if you like planes and swooshable sets. And the main jet is HUGE once completed. Much bigger than anticipated.

Will buy. Makes my decision to purchase Diagon Alley over Grand Emporium feel like the right one.

I am on the fence about taking apart Diagon Alley at the moment. I bought it for all the windows and neat techniques. Want to make a new building from it, but the set just looks so nice on display.

I was bummed that my local Lego Store was sold out of the Sopwith Camel, but now I'm glad I have $15 in VIP credit and about $30 in giftcards from Xmas.

The cinema is very cool. One of the first I've really, really wanted in a while.

Tracking finally updated for my SSD delivery. It took from Monday until this morning for the package to go from SC to NC. I know Tuesday was a holiday and all, but two days to go through one state? LAME!

Better be delivered tomorrow. And hopefully before I go to work or when my wife is here. I dont want to have to wait for redelivery on Monday. Daddy needs his capital ship!

And almost done clearing off space to display the beast as well. In the past few days I have disassembled Quinjet (pours a 40), Blacktron Brewery MOC (never finished. Hit a wall.), all Monster Fighters stuff (except my Haunted House diorama. That sucker is staying up forever!), all the Alien Conquest stuff I got on clearance, and I do need to clear Diagon Alley out. I am going to have to move where everything is on display in order to have the SSD up, but I think my new plan will be better.
The Imperial Shuttle has always been on top of the AV rack, but that will be the new home for the Haunted House diorama. Shuttle will now go to the table by the window, and the space underneath it should provide enough clearance for the SSD to sit there and not be on a high shelf where all I see is the underside.

*goes back to staring over every little detail in the Palace Cinema pic. Crying on the inside because I cannot buy it immediately*

On Eurobricks they are commenting that in the pic it looks like it comes with a red baseplate. Very interesting!

And also a lot of negativity about the set over there. Some valid concerns, such as "will the posters be printed or stickers," but others are just so nitpicky.

Someone said that this was their "budget modular" because it is so small and not the real modular for next year. Huh?

+1 legogaffer jaw on floor

The detail. :O I am gonna have to go back to Town Hall I think, I am not waiting on that sexy beast.

edit: this is the first mod since FB with a vehicle, right? I'd like to see more of that sort of thing, I think.

I'm worried the inside is going to look fairly bland given size restrictions.

I'm sure the interior is going to be pretty fantastic. Can't wait for more pics.

I dont think it will be bland inside. I think it will be very cramped. Corner building is really the only way to get a theater modular done because it lends itself to a square footprint better than a front facing building. I think the 32x32 base is what is hindering it from being truly glorious inside though. If anything it just restricts the number of seats they can put in it. If they went to a 48x48 it would allow for a lot more seating and more room inside.

Pet Shop is a good example of having a lot of neat little details in a very small space. But it is very cramped. As for wanting pics of the interior to Palace Cinema, I want to see pics but at the same time I dont. I want to be surprised with this set.

EDIT: I dont remember seeing this before, but on Toys N Bricks they listed the summer 2013 Galaxy Squad sets:
70705 Crater Creeper
70706 CLS-89 Eradicator Mech
70707 Hive Crawler
70708 Galactic Titan

Galactic Titan? That sounds like it could be a beast of a set!

Maturity, bitches.
My local toyshop had nothing on sale, but it seems they sold all their minifigures before Christmas as the new series was put out. May go back after analysing the figures for parts.

Now i am already wondering how the cinema would look all by ITSELF since i don't own any other modular buildings and this is really the only one that interests me hmmm

Will look good I bet. I used to only have the Grand Emporium... it looked awesome by itself. Just turn it around a bit (like it is on the box)

Guests who came over to my house were all like: Wow...is that LEGO? That is beautiful!

The guy at the register at the Lego store we went to helped me pick out a chicken guy. Probably going to leave him at home instead of bringing him to my cube at work.

Gonna have to start a new block for that cinema. Nice excuse to build an intersection on the road too.

Got a Mann's Chinese theatre vibe about the corner tower too.

For the interior, I'm guessing the bottom floor will be concessions, and top floor the theater. Though it would be nice if they managed a 2 tier seating area in the theater section.

That is what I wanted to try with a MOC, but just didn't have the parts to pull off a building big enough to do that. Still tempted to try and do it now that I have more pieces. Go get a 48x48 plate and try it.

I have a feeling the Palace Cinema will be a big hit with people not heavily into Lego as well. A theater is something that can easily ensnare people into the addiction.

I'm kind of hoping for a seating area and a projector room on the second floor. But I think you're right. I can't see them leaving out a concessions area.

After watching me have a ball putting together LEGO sets with my 5 year old for the past year, my in-laws went and dumped this on me for Christmas...

13391174.jpg

I haven't had my own LEGO sets since the original space line launched back in the late 70's/early 80's (I'll be 40 next year). I remember I had the first floating fire boat back in the day too as one of the first LEGO I owned.

Oh, what have they done to me...This won't be good. I can only pray this will be a one time thing. My wallet couldn't handle it. :|

That box front alone with most of the principal cast of characters is hitting me hard...

But of course! Nothing to worry about.

We will also have the LIDL offer in Spain. According to the leaflet, from next Friday a bunch of sets that usually retail for 11-15€ for 8€, including Creator stuff like the blue car or the red and yellow helicopter. And I have one right below my home, will have to camp 15 minutes early just in case (I've seen people do this several times already).

Where is the 2013 minimod though?

Mini mod will have to come after the theater if it's being included. I think Town Hall came out in March last year, so the timing this year will probably be similar. My guess is the mini mods release in the summer sometime.

You can see pictures of a few of the newbies in the preview leaks just posted, but I can't put names to faces yet.

I am hoping for the glorious return of the giant robot set with the titan.

Edit: as expected, the leaks are gone.

LOL, i just threw this abomination together in about 20 minutes as my first MOC creation ever, so bear with me! I shall call it the "Hornet escort shuttle"
The insect look wasn't even intentional, not sure how it ended up looking like a Galaxy Squad reject shuttle :(

These were some of the 30+ year old Lego pieces i had as a kid, i washed em earlier (nearly busted my washing machine since the parts somehow crawled out of that damn bag i put em in) so i could give MOCing a go, not sure yet it's for me so i might stick to collecting and displaying sets.

Then again, i really didn't have much to work with here and didn't really have a "plan" so the next one might turn out quite a bit more sophisticated ;P

I like it. Some of the most fun Mocs are the ones where there was no plan to it. Just sit down and build, build, build.
And I spy Blacktron parts there. :)

There were photos of these sets in the leaked ones above, though that folder is now gone. The Titan looked pretty cool - did anyone save them?
