They should totally just hire the KI talent or
The Dive Kick folks: I'd imagine most of them would be disgruntled at the prospect of becoming glorified android devs.

Love the idea of getting Lab Zero Games on it. Small team MS could buy, build up, and let work on KI for X1 and Skullgirls for 360, PC, and Arcade. It would be good for MS to have a strong presence in the FG genre/community and at tournaments.

You know that's a great idea too or track down a team of OG KI devs and former cap com folks.

Isn't Lab Zero currently working on all the DLC for Skullgirls they have to make because of there very large indiegogo campaign?

Id imagine a lot of people would be really pissed if they just up and started working on KI.

The original KI team was like 6-7 people.

  • Ken Lobb was always the father of KI and it's still his baby to this day
  • Robin Beanland is still at Rare and blessed Gordon's music samples
  • Kevin Bayliss is now a singer songwriter
  • Chris Tilston is at Starfire Studios
  • Phil Dunne is at Starfire Studios
  • Chris Seavor is at Gory Details and hates MS
  • Mark Betteridge is working on iOS games with Seavor at Gory Details
There's not a lot of reason to jump through hoops to bring them together again when A) they need more people than the original team and B) there are better fighting game devs available for hire.

That said, not sure what the 4-person, all ex-Rare Starfire Studio is doing these days. Fusion: Genesis was released a couple years ago now and there was an interview where they said they may be interested in working on it, but admitted it would need a bigger team than what they have at Starfire to do it right. Maybe fusing them with those Capcom FG devs would be cool, but probably not the fastest way to get a team together to keep KI going.

With Lobb and Goddard overseeing development, and Spencer saying that KI is important to him, I think they'll put it in good hands. We'll learn more soon enough. : )
