I have this thing. And yes the sound emulation is garbage. But it takes carts which is why I got it to begin with.

Had Sonic, Flicky, Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Kid Chameleon, and Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. Not the best selection but it was an okay novelty at the time.
No idea if it holds up though. This looks like a repackaged version of that Genesis repro I see at Urban Outfitters or HMV.

Yeah, this is a video of an older model, but I have little trust in things like these. Exception would be the Atari Flashback 2 or 2+, which apparently uses real hardware (supposedly you can even solder a cartridge slot onto it). Those weren't made by ATGames, I think, though.
Who doesn't always have a great time with Jack's Pea?
It was the superior version compared to the SNES because it had blood and the original fatalities.

Mortal Kombat 1 was a huge victory for the Genesis. It had blood (via code) and the SNES version merely had sweat. I was working at Software Etc. at the time and this game sold so many Genesis units it was crazy. Nintendo changed their tune with MK2 but by then many gamers had picked their next-gen platform based on the first game.

Well at least it comes with an ac adapter. You can't do that on Nintendo (anymore).
I'd argue these aren't very friendly, as the ones that came with mine were IR.

See if Sega sat down and made something akin to the colletion they had on 360 and PS3, but in a stand alone format, with good AV, they could probably make an absolute mint.

IIRC aren't there some messy legal or technical issues with that game?
It's weird how 3&K was totally absent from the PS3/360 collection, and Wii Virtual Console. Was Mega Collection the last time it was re-released completely?

This particular re release of the same old garbage probably has little to do with Sega themselves at this point.
Whoever hold the license saw an opportunity to bring this back out because of the Nes Mini. It cost's them nothing to do so.
There are probably warehouses full of these things dating back to a decade.
