NieR: Automata |OT| "I wouldn't expect too much from this game if I were you."

This isn't to sound arrogant, but to give you comfort.

I am incredibly seasoned in action games. While I did not skip cutscenes, I didn't do many of the sidequests. Just story stuff. 7 hours may not be realistic for the average player.

Once you start playing the game again, perhaps you could mention what changes during the game? Since you seem to be one of the only ones in the thread who's gotten to the first ending, it might clear up some misconceptions, particularly if things change drastically.

Can someone make a countdown for the Japan store? Is it the same as the HK time? I'm buying the game in Japan not HK.

Hope this isn't directed toward myself. I was asked how long my initial run was and answered.

It's less directed at you and more directed at people assuming the worst based on a lack of information.

If you could kindly edit your post to mention that it took 7 hours for the first ending, it would be greatly appreciated.

The Japan store is currently in the flux between the game going live for pre-orders and switching from a pre-order to purchase on the PSN.

It was listed, but hasn't been relisted as a regular purchase yet, and there's no set-in-stone ETA for that.

This is not a countdown to when its on the store, this is a countdown to when you can start pressing your F5 key.

It's as close as we're gonna get until it's actually there.

Was there any talk about other characters being playable after you beat the game?

I want to play as Anemone, she looks super cool...but she's probably just a merchant that's all.

If not, it would be cool if someone was able to mod a mesh swap without too many animation problems

I've added it to the FAQ to explain it, so hopefully people actually see & understand it rather than assuming the worst.

Nice, thanks for clearing that up...I was watching quick streams this morning and saw 2 villages where there was a lot of NPC's you could talk to and all,so I was surprised on 7 hours...but its all ok,if people play 7 hours and enjoyed it,its fine.

Something i dont quite get.
Platinum fans are the ones worried about length, yet all platinum games are a fantastic 5-8 hours on a single play through.

Well, this is an RPG and not typical character action game.

Nothing strange about people being surprised by the length just because Platinum happened to develop it.

will be interesting if endings are Persona 4 style where skipping the first one will lead to totally new content/areas.

Anyways, I need to delete my youtube history to avoid the inevitable bosses spoilers -__-

Well, not by the Yoko Taro standard. But from the beginning of the game until the end of the credits, yes. First ending.

I did. But I have much to do, so I'm going back to play it after this post.

7 hours. Played on Hard.

EDIT: First ending only.

does the hard mode still has that stupid thing "you can not lock on" ??

To all of those working to spread the misinformation of 7 or 10 hour runs, please re-read the OP. Specifically the Information and FAQ sections.

Working to spread the misinformation? Poster said he got the first official ending in 7 hours and folks have questions. I don't think people in here have a hidden agenda. Everyone is curious because few people know how it all plays out.

That was posted before I asked the poster to clarify his post with the information that it was from the first ending. I've gone ahead and edited it now.

Yeah I was wondering why when I went to the store page it just had no option to purchase. Either way we can assume it will be here at some point tonight? I'm on the East Coast. Either way I'm glad I was able to get my English digital pre order canceled with PS Support.

Can't wait to play this now instead of after the Switch launches. Perfect game to play in preparation and lead up to the Switch launch.

I've played Nier before. I know how it works. I wasn't expecting a Platinum Games game with multiple endings. I was expecting Nier with platinum combat. There's a difference.

7 hours for ending A? Lmao.

Stil getting day one.

Hard because damage numbers, or hard because encounter design, i'm hoping they do the typical action game trials as side quests.

Escort quests and stuff like that. It's hard as fuck because you get one-shotted by everything and you have to protect stuff at the same time. This is just on Hard and with enemies one or two levels higher than you.

Problem is, no one's talking about how the game handles its endings. Even if the first play through is shorter than the original Nier, the endings may add a lot more content than Nier's did. We really need more info in that regard.

Exactly. Hopefully is something like Nier 1 regarding stuff post ending A

Maybe your missing something like armor? Weapons might give defense or something? Everything one shotting is strange for platinum, they dont usually go for this outside of grabs, but you are ridiculously overpowered in this game.

I'm hoping more in the veins of Drakengard 1 and 3, entire new branches of story with new content and stuff in them. It'd help explain the short first run through, as those games also had short first run throughs.

Is there a novel portion? If so, is it hard?

Oh yea, a reminder to those who have the game, please do a good job concerning spoilers: Actually make it clear what you're about to put in spoilers for one thing (Ending spoilers:
We're getting a happy ending
, and I'd appreciate if you don't make it obvious either.

Like for example:

Is 2B cool?

Yes.

It'd be relatively easy to infer that I'm saying yes, no? So for yes/no questions for example, don't make it so obvious what the answer is. But yea, I see this a lot in the OT threads, and since this game is so story-heavy, I'd appreciate it if we took greater care not to accidentally spoil stuff for others.

If you skip all the sidequests and activities in Nier you can get through the story in a similar amount of time, its not like there's a mountain of unique content there on the primary story path.

From what I've seen on streams and from information I've gathered elsewhere, Automata seems substantially bigger. There's more depth to the RPG systems, the environments have much greater scale, explorability and verticality, there are far more endings, etc.

If you've played Nier (or any of Yoko's games period), you'll know that he never front-loads too much content, so quite honestly the time spent getting to ending A is hardly indicative of the overall length of the experience.

An 'ending' in a Yoko Taro game is not like an ending in a normal game.

Imagine if you only played the Saber route in Fate/stay night, or only played the Arcueid route in Tsukihime, or only played You's route in Ever17 and then told people you 'beat the game.' People would laugh at you for that.

Ending A is usually just the beginning in a Taro game, as said. Still waiting on confirmation on the 'route method' this game uses.

Really love how dynamic the music is. It reacts to certain cues and keeps things fresh. Helps that it's auditory heaven of course.
