This game is fucking INCREDIBLE. I just finished the demo and I'm all jittery. Going to play it a few dozen more times no doubt.
God, it's so slick. Between Star Fox Zero and TMNT, Platinum had a bad 2016, but they are back, baby. 2B feels every bit as good to control as Bayonetta; honestly maybe even moreso. 2B's dodge is so fast and responsive, there's absolutely zero downtime between dodges and no penalty for dodging too many times in a row. If you hold the dodge button and keep moving you transition straight into the sprint, which feels about as fast as Bayo's Panther mode.
Combo-ing is pretty simple, more along the lines of Revengeance. I haven't fully worked it out yet, but you get different combos depending on whether you hold or mash, and whether you're moving or not. If you hold Triangle while standing still 2B will charge up a big Vergil-style Iaido attack; release the button before the flash and she'll do an overhead slice, wait for the flash and she'll do a horizontal slice. She throws out the sword Round Trip style in the mash Square combo, whereas the hold Square combo looks like Raiden's infinite combo in Revengeance. Heavy Attack in the air for Helm Breaker, Square for Aerial Rave. I couldn't find a Stinger or a launcher, but they might have to be unlocked in the full game.
The soundtrack is incredible, the original Nier's cheeky camera tricks and gameplay switchups are alive and well, and, God, that bossfight. A full on, multi-stage Jubileus-sized boss that plays like a Greatest Hits compilation of previous Platinum bossfight tropes right here in this free demo. Platinum da gawds.
