Nintendo are banning hacked 3DS's from going online

Nintendo did ban people on Wii and Wii U, actually they've been using the same error code for 10 years now. It was 20102 last gen, now (00)2-0102.
...what, are there no confirmed bans in Europe? Is this a US only thing? Seems odd if so.
Someone was doing a google survey, quite a big chunk were European 3DS.
I mean, just look at streetpass lol
Not my images, but yeah, probably wasn't that hard for Nintendo to log everything and eventually act.

i've seen some people with the homebrew apps in streetpass and i always shake my head. no attempt to even hide them.
i've made sure to never ever let my 3DSs hit a streetpass after playing a homebrew app. i always open an official app right after i'm done using whatever homebrew program i was using precisely to avoid this. i checked and none of my machines are banned (i could see them all logged on the friend list of one of them, which means the friend code isn't banned)

I haven't turned on 3DS in a while so I don't know if I have been banned. I understand that this is not a nnid ban. Could it be extended to a nnid ban in the future? If my nnid does get banned I'm not ready for this to take down Wii U and Switch with it.
I know why Nintendo do this but it's such a shame that they do.
My hacked 3DS allows me to use my own themes and backups and I'm also running Snes9X which offers far more screen options than VC games do, I am also playing Mother 2 with the uncut patch installed. I also have Mother 3 with the translation patch too.
If Nintendo want to compete with smartphones taking away handheld market share then they need to offer me more.

this would have more of an impact if there were more than 5 games with online worth playing on the 3DS.
Some will care, some will not.
I don't think I've played online more than maybe once or twice as a curiosity. Handheld gaming is primarily a solo experience for me.
As for these bans; well, Ninty is within their rights I think, and we all agree to their TOS when setting up a 3DS.

It nukes the potential to play online, and it also nukes your resale value if you ever want to upsell to the next 3DS.
This has literally zero effect on piracy, though. Unless you're saying that by default anyone who uses a CFW is a pirate.
Somehow this all feels rather ironic after the news last week with Sighax and all that other stuff.
Considering Nintendo has been harvesting 3DS data for a while, they sure picked an interesting time to pull the trigger on banning consoles.
From what I understood the last time there was a banwave, NNID Bans are pretty rare, so it's unlikely to be extended to that.
Most of what everyone has right now is a straight Console Ban which just blocks Online Sevices (save the eShop). For Sun/Moon ppl who got banned, those were particularly nasty since they were permanent bans.
(I haven't read anything regarding the duration of the current bans.)

i also hate cheating online,but come on,are you even trying your hard to be troll or what?
most of the people who got banned didn't even cheat.
i installed CFW to use emulators and playing fansub games and convert all my own games on one console.
putting it on cheaters doesn't justify the ban on all people.
you can edit the save file without installing CFW to the 3DS,so you don't need to hack your 3DS to hack the save file.
so it's not the problem of cheating,and cheating won't stop by banning the CFW users.

You modify a console on your own risk. Simple as that. Anyone surprised at this reaction should probably see this as a lesson.

NTR won't even let you sign online because the author of this app made it to not work online.
so,you mean pokemon battle? i understand this problem and that's why i don't even battle online because i am not good with battle and i don't enjoy pokemon battle online,but most of them have legal pokemon when you battle online,no one having super modded pokemon with hacked ability.
research before you post,those are using program on PC to edit the save,they don't really need CFW to edit the save.
i still don't believe the people who said they got banned and they don't have CFW.

Well there are risks to using hacks.
