PS4 System Software Update 4.50 Features Detailed

SargerusBR

I love Pokken!
not mentioned in the release note:

boost mode for PS4 Pro
higher frame rate for old game which dont have Pro patch
C3vpduoUMAEpU5P.jpg

This potentially means 60fps for Bloodborne? I may buy a Pro after all.

BOOST MODE! I'm most excited to see this in action on the Lego games! Yes.... the Lego games......

I don't Bloodbourne. Sorry.

Yeah, I doubt a media player update is big news though. Fucked up if they leave it out after doing the blu-ray work. I might buy a 3D blu ray now though...

Weirdly, there's a porn site that claims to have PSVR media player support. No idea how that works.
There are lots on 3D Bluray porn movies. I know its not the same as 3D SBS video porn. But we are getting close...

Just release the 3D video patch Sony!

This is a Godly update.

Hyped for external support, my 2TB is already crying.
Framrate boost mode for my Pro will also be greatly appreciated when I dive back into some older games.

Custom wallpapers is sweet too, I'm guessing we can just put a jpg file to be our wallpaper?

OMG external HDD support. This is a huge megaton for me. I like to save a lot of clips but they take up tons of space. I just finally ran out of space on my HDD and had to delete something(thankfully I could just delete the Nioh Demo since it was timed)

Can someone please educate me regarding installing games on an external HDD? Once I plug in the HDD, will I be given the option to choose where the game is installed? And can I transfer an installed game from the PS4 HDD to the external and vice versa?

hey if it just fixes the frame pacing in BB, it's worth it.

address space, sir.

Xbox One can support 16TB of storage so you can plug in two 8TB drives.

I guess Sony is only expecting people to use one drive due to the two ports on the base PS4?

Yes

So only game screenshots as wallpaper?!?!
FUCKING. STUPID.

oh wow...finally will be able to get some of my own wallpapers up. Not as elegant a solution as my PS3, where I literally had tons of media sitting on it, but this is fine for a few of my favorite pictures as my background. For me, PS4 is pretty much perfect now, particularly for a OS I navigate with a controller.

Besides b/c with the older Playstation library and of course the infamous name change, I don't see any highly requested features that I'm dying to have.

Solid update, but please Sony, up the speed of the PS2 library coming back and put up some software emulation for PSP/PS1 games.

You can browse to any website on the web browser and take a screenshot of whatever you want to use as a wallpaper.

That's not "custom wallpaper"!
FUCKING. STUPID.

Just screen shot any image you want from a cloud hosting service (using the bowser). It's a bit crap that you have to though.

You should be able to login to say twitter or Facebook or something from the browser and screenshot photos to set as your background.

Lol...yeah, not as elegant as even the PS3, Sony really doesn't want PS4 to be a media machine it seems, but it can be done, and I'll go through the slightly annoying hoops to make my PS4 feel a bit more mine finally!

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights

I never trusted this company after using a shoddy cooling thing on my 360.

Wait, non PS+ accounts can cloud storage if there is a PS+ account on the system? I thought only accounts with plus can access cloud storage. Or are you saying 5 people all play on the same PSN?

This is what happens when you go back n forth between systems....I'm getting mixed up with how XBO does it.

I just assumed it did it like XBO now after that last update. I have to go and do some cleaning on my saves now. One of my kids I do let use my profile tho.

Well thats one more thing that needs to be added...lol.

view screenshot on the web browser and take a screenshot with the share button. Workaround for a lot of PS4 screenshot limitations like PS4 community wallpapers

Does the external HDD allow you to save and run games off of it?

The wording isn't actually that explicit.

You can download and install applications directly to your extra storage, and the saved contents are easily manageable through the settings menu.
Also, all the applications saved in the external HDD will appear in the Content Launcher of the Home Screen so it's easy to keep track of what apps you launched recently.

So to me it sounds like to run them you'd have to move them to the internal?

Time to add rip out my 2TB to use as external and invest in a reasonable SSD for internal.

hmm good point.

question: can I use a partitioned drive? or will the PS4 "eat" the whole drive and format it with some weird filesystem?

I have an external HDD that is half mac/win but I'd rather not format it.

Sony didn't add up to 8 TB external HDD support and also not allow you to put your games on it, regardless of the wording. That would just be stupid.

Omg external hdd support megaton.

External HDD Support
Upto 8tb

That's it! That's all I needed from this update! Everything else is gravy on top

I guess Bloodborne and DS3 locked at 30 fps, so they wouldn't run higher than that.

The issues are the frame pacing (one frame updated in 16ms, the next updated in 49, the average is still 30 but it looks stuttery), as well as occasional dips below 30 (holding a torch in co-op is still painful)

You could also send an image through a message using the message app on your phone and send it to someone, view it on your PS4 and screenshot it

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

Custom wallpapers and external HDD! Holy shit finally! 😁 😁 😁 😁 😁

Extnernal HDDs, Boost Mode & Wallpapers all sound fantastic to me. Not that I need another external hard drive. Perhaps I can simply re-purpose another.

It specifically says you can install to the external. Why would you be able to install but not run?

ok, ok, plenty of workarounds....

What we will actually need now is a GAF thread of PS4 wallpapers so I can just bookmark that on my PS4 browser.

External hdd support? YES!

EDIT: Does it have to be 3.0? dammit, I don't have any of those.

You can get just a USB 3.0 enclosure, or even just the connector cable going from SATA to USB 3, pretty cheap, and make any hard drive into one, or replace the cable with a USB 3 one on some external hard drives.
