Played a couple games. The map is gonna take getting used to plus the changed jump button too...
My connection got all fussy whenever I separated the Joycons from the Switch. Couldn't find a match at all like that, but standard handheld mode was smooth like butter, one match after the other. Guessing the wireless connection with the joycons is messing with the Switch? I dunno, maybe I got one of the shitty batches.
The gyro controls were so bad for me, I was playing with a joy-con grip and it was just so awkward. I never had any issues on the Wii U, I think I'm gonna have to buy a pro controller for this game.
Also in handheld mode was even worse, I wish I knew how to turn the gyro off in handheld mode, at least it looked gorgeous on the Switch screen.
I only played two matches tho and I lost both
Anyone else experienced similar issues with controls?
I get the feeling that you're trying too hard to aim with gyro. Its supposed to feel more natural. It definitely takes a bit too get used to.
That's an awful example
Anyone got any map-based strategy working during the game? If so, how?
- Still not really familiar with the tactical purpose of squidmode other than recharging ink, couldn't move on walls and stuff...
Y
Seems like some gamers these days want every game to control the same way, so they never have to leave their comfort zone and learn new skills.
you can silently camp while in squid mode, useful when you're a sniperNever played Splatoon before. My impressions after two matches today:
- Very easy to get into
- Good controls
- Actually works as a portable shooter in bed wow
- Fast paced game
- Feels right

So this was first experience with Splatoon.
The Roller really worries me. It might be cause I'm an unskilled noob but the Roller feels broken? It was the only weapon that I felt effective when using, and I could never beat anyone that had it when I was using other weapons. Is this just a learning curve thing or is the roller a blatant OP weapon for unskilled players?
Also any word on whether they're gonna include a single player campaign? I heard the first one had amazing bosses, and frankly a single player mode feels like the best way to acclimate with and learn the game before hopping online.
Aside from all that, it was great and can't wait to play the final game.

That was fun. Had 10 matches, not a single drop.
Tried both the pro controller, and split j-cons. The j-cons are perfect for this kind of game.
How was the single player campaign on the original?
You need more than 5 gamesPlayed 5 games, lost 4.
Gyro controls ain't for me. I really hope the campaihn delivers.
WAIT WHAT WE COULD CHANGE IT TO ANALOG?Loved it! Switched to analog and adjusted the sliders and it felt great!
I really hope they include all the maps and modes from the original, would be the ultimate Splatoon game then

I feel way too rusty with the game. I died to rollers so much when I used to... I can't remember. And that's the problem. I miss my Splatoon 1 loadout of N-Zap 95 and Sprinkler.
Though... I didn't see any amazing spots to plant a sprinkler in these maps, either. They're very tightly designed with no useful overhangs to put stuff on.
Kicked... but wow did i enjoy this a hell of a lot more than i thought I would. Still don't understand how motion controls benefit you over dual sticks. I guess its due to how much I've played Cod/Bf/Halo.

Lazy gamers for wanting to play comfortably? That's a new one. I had no fun with gyro, I turned them off and started enjoying the game a lot more. You say it takes some time to learn but I'd rather not waster the whole hour doing that.
FixedThe OT for this game needs to be called "Yes, you can turn off the motion-controls if you want to stink."

I guess the one downside to this testfire is that the maps they picked for it don't have as much in the way of climbable walls like the set they chose for the first one's testfires. You should be able to climb walls that ink sticks to.

You can access the Options on the screen where you choose your weapon. Press +.WAIT WHAT WE COULD CHANGE IT TO ANALOG?

Honestly, just rush to the center and control it.
If everyone is doing their job, you're likely to win as long as you hold the center.
That sounds good. Hope they add a bit more to sp content. MP seems great. 👍Single player in the first game was incredibly fun and reminded me a bit of Mario Galaxy. My only real complaint was that it didn't last very long.
