I did it first.
It's a new feature, all you have to do is press X (it says Switch right above X) and Link will stand in front of the camera.

Cosmo tried to cause a glitch from WWGCN for which you had to get these sticky dudes attached to you, leave and reenter the room 14 times or so to come back and get more of them until the game usually crashes. It obviously didn't crash so he decided to goof around with them anyway and took selfies
My wild layman's guess is that Wii U having a crapton more RAM than the GCN prevents it from crashing.
