Not sure this is a great path to go down, or even agree with decisions you have made in the past for sure.

I will say thanks for at least keeping neogaf around over these past years. Because of that, i have meet some good folks from gaming side and communities.

Just want to recognize good folk over the years and say thanks for their posts or friendships. Many times i agreed with or laughed my ass off too.

Funny S L A E N T.com is a banned site on GAF. Plenty of GAF communities there and new/old faces inbound in the current times. Great dark theme and mobile site too.

Some advice Evilore...separate personal and business mate, GAF should never have been affected this way. Best of luck but after HaloGAF, some early BS personal bans and the current handling of GAF over the last 2 years your forums are no longer a ship I wish to be in with just you at the helm.

But.. your still posting...

First I want to say I was happy to see the site is at least back up and accessible. Secondly I want to say that Neogaf has been really the only gaming community I really felt I connected with. I met a lot of really cool people here not least of which is the folks in our Madden casual league we started in 2013. The core people in that group I consider pretty good friends and know we will keep in touch regardless what happens.

That being said it's sad seeing the state GAF is currently in. The OT area gone, and the gaming area being flooded with trash. I unfortunately don't think GAF will ever return to what it once was as long as Evilore is still in charge. I say that with all due respect and have never had any issues with Evilore. He needs to do what is right by the site if he wants any chance it will survive and pass it on to someone else.

I know this is a difficult decision but Evilore if you care about the community at all you will do what's right. I don't want to see this place die.

I’m saddened that this forum will become the very antithesis of what it once strived to be. After the dust settles, most of the users will be people who are OK with this situation and how it is being handled. The rats come out for scraps after everyone leaves.

I hope that you come to understand that if you really want to save what’s left of the community you fostered for years, you’ll have to let it go. There is too much, too fast for it to be any other way.

You should resign for the good of NeoGAF. The people who have been banned for emotional outbursts today should get a second chance. And most important of all, you must come to peace with the fact that what you did was wrong and not make excuses or justifications. Accept it and learn from it... It’s honestly the least you should do.

That’s just my 2 cents. Do with my account what you think is right. I have really enjoyed my time here and wish that things could be different.

Also, very disappointing, all-around. Especially the initial non-existent response. The site practically rotted away as everyone wondered what was going on.

The way this is all being handled is inexcusably bad, it's just a master class in bad executive decisions. There isn't much community left here, but removing the Off Topic forum because the owner of the website allegedly did something disgusting several years ago -- and was identifies -- is punishing the community for disgusting decisions that the owner of the website made.

Evilore, the Off Topic forum did not make you make the wrong decision or do the wrong thing 2 years ago or 5 years ago. The Off Topic forum did not make Amir0x download child pornography. Yes, the Off Topic forum exposes risk for your business (these three issues are examples of that risk), but the reason your business is a business is largely because the site has both a gaming discussion area (which I think is the initial draw for most members) and then an off topic area (which most members also chat in). I think most people here became members to chat about videogames, but then naturally, you chat about other things you're interested in -- sports, movies, music, or the really specific topics like the Black Culture threads, developer/programming threads, or the communities like WrassleGaf or NFLGaf. Punishing those communities because you or your former staff are exposing your business to risk with poor choices is not the right way to handle this.

There have been a number of high profile sexual assaults in the news lately, and while most folks are talking about Harvey Weinstein, Liberty Mutual -- the investment firm -- has also recently fired two employees for sexual misconduct at the workplace. It wouldn't be right for Liberty Mutual to say, "We're not having the company Christmas Party, because Christmas parties is what got us into this mess in the first place," or "We're not going to participate in social out reach because social out reach has made us look like hypocrites with these sexual assaults." No, because it's not The Christmas Party or the Social outreach program that's causing the problem: It's bad, hurtful, or illegal decisions made by you or by some former staff members.

You've always had a reputation for making brash decisions, and most of these have not faired well for you. Poorly thought out statements about Amir0x that bent the truth, came too late, and just weren't handled correctly; decisions to ban certain topics from being discussed; decisions to ban certain members or former staff, and scores of others. This, though, is clearly the worst decision and it shows in inability to accept fault. This decisions seems to simply be another projection: "I've made bad decisions in my life and business, and so the business must be punished." That doesn't make any sense, it's selfish and delusional.

You have an opportunity to make the right decision. Obviously you feel like this site is your baby and "it's your's," but this business exists in spite of you, not because of you. It can be hard for a CEO or business owner to give up something that they think is theirs, many CEOs resist this and are befuddled when their board ousts them for a business that they themselves launched. The right thing for you to do would have been to announce that you're taking an indefinite leave of absence from NeoGaf. Revenue from the site would be put into an escrow account to cover expenses and hire staff who would manage it in your absence. A board of staff (moderators, admins) would be formed to hire staff who would manage the site and support the community. Those would be base level decisions which would ensure, at least, some integrity with the site which would keep at least some members around. The site would persist and could possibly bounce back, ultimately you wouldn't be punishing your customers or your business for your own bad decision. Instead, you made the wrong decision with how this was handled and then continually made the wrong decision with how you're going to move forward with this, instead of holding yourself accountable, you're punishing the community that has made your business successful.

It shows an utter lack of self-awareness which then also undermines any integrity that you're trying to preserve against allegations like the ones you're facing.

This is the best take I've seen by far.

Just wanted to say I sincerely hope Tyler reads this and steps away.

Let's at least try, right? We'll give it some time and see if we rebuild.

Dennis is an old school GAFfer. Got banned a while ago because he was super combative when it came to games.

Wait.

Did he compare me to Dennis, the guy with the Deus Ex avatar?

He compared me to that Dennis?

Are you serious?

DENNIS?

That is beyond the pale.

Edit: lol, the amount of arguments I had with Dennis years ago.

This should be a confession thread since Evilore decided not to. I voted for Donald Trump.
This is like when you say a really off-color joke in a busy restaurant, thinking just your friends will hear you. Except right when you deliver the punchline everyone in the restaurant somehow goes quiet and all hear you say something that shouldn't be said out loud. :)

Boogie, Totalbiscuit, Jim Sterling and Colin Moriarty are 100% right about this place.

Absolutely disgusting that people are just accepting this response.
I honestly don't think it's for anyone to accept or not accept. I mean, I mainly used to hang in the OT, with the occasional lurk on the gaming side when I caught wind of new games or whatever. Like, this sounds bad I guess, but I honestly don't give a fuck about Evilore. Not in a bad way, and also not in a good way. It's just, I wasn't coming here to post because of him. I honestly go my entire day without thinking about what Evilore has been doing in his free time. I've been coming here forever because I like the community. I like the other people posting. I like going into NFL threads and knowing that LionsGAF will be there to hold me when Matt Stafford takes a shit all over the football field.

I also go to OT for news and updates. I like having one place where I can pretty much immediately know if there's a cool new TV show out, or a trailer coming, or whether 98% of NeoGAF thinks that Justice League is the cause of all evil in the universe.

All these things I do on here, I do irrespective of Tyler Malka. If he assaulted that woman, then shame on him. If he didn't, then that sucks as well. I don't know and I wasn't there. I can't fall on a sword for other people though, and even if I could, I don't really want to. I just want to have a website I can go to while I'm at work to help take my mind off of the shitty people I have to deal with day to day. NeoGAF helps with that.

Am I an asshole for enjoying a site and not really caring who the owner of it is? I don't think so. (And to anyone thinking that I'm enabling Tyler by continuing to post on this site, I think you're drastically over-valuing the power of posting on a web forum.)

GAF IS BACK 🙌🙌🙌🙌

Also what happened to innocent until proven guilty??

Anyways I'm glad the forums are back, I'm here for the game talk anyways 👍

I can't believe some.people are actually staying after hearing everything. I hope you realize that by staying all your doing is endorsing what the owner of this site has done.

There are other gaming forums out there.

I for one would like to request someone PM me the new site people are moving to. I have reddit and would like something to replace Gaf. I can't support this site anymore.

How do you know if any of it is true?

Waaaaaay too many holier than thou fuckers on this forum. Glad a lot of them have been weeded out.

It's a video game forum. Discuss video games, move on.

The irony of this post is so incredible. Do you know where you are? Are you friends with Crossing Eden?

Everybody needs to chill the fuck out. Don't let your emotions get the best of you. Evilore organized this site but we have become much bigger than him or any other forum in terms of bond. I'm waiting till everything has settled before I make a final judgment on the situation at hand. This shit hurts, and not having an off topic also looks suspicious. But I'm choosing to be objective here. Calling him a cunt or pretending to stand up to something for which you don't have all perspectives is childish. evilore might be the face of neogaf, but were the pulse. I feel like we've always been at the forefront of the industry and have given perspective to those who needed it. We shouldn't lose that now.

Gaf please rise above it

As a leftist, seeing OT turn into a Hillary Clinton echo chamber was incredibly frustrating, but this is definitely not the answer.

Same. Labeling people as sexist or some kind of Progressive traitor for merely criticizing Hillary Clinton was not exactly uncommon and it was emblematic of the kind of atmosphere that developed over the last few years or so here. Discourse had definitely become toxic and extremely unwelcoming to those whose views didn't exactly conform to an insanely narrow and narrow-minded idea of what progressivism and "the left" should be. Purity tests indeed. Progressive critical thinking is great. 'Poligaf' definitely went up its own ass though.

All we're hearing is allegations. Nothing has been proven to this point. So we're suppose to believe everything we read and hear? Is that how it works now?

I've always found you to be a great user here, and posts like these are exactly why. Great write-up--you said exactly what needed to be said.

This seems nice. My favorite forum community will always be from RottenTomatoes. It was small, most people didn't know it existed on the movie site, and the community was fairly mature (although I was still very young when I posted there). I'm going to see how active it is, but I would love to be in a small community again.

It's great. I've been posting there for years. I hope you do give it a try.

Man, the first few pages of this thread are like a list of the lost.

Frankly, and speaking as a lawyer here, it is not appropriate to discuss allegations while they remain hearsay and open to dispute. However, the allegations arose in a politically heated environment, and were handled badly, and have created a significant amount of rightful distaste among the community. This has travelled to the less generous parts of the web, where it is open season on the community.

Secondly, we are a community, and notwithstanding allegations (rightly or wrongly) against the owner, we have to make a distinction between the owner and the community. For example, I may dislike (to put it mildly) Trump, but I still love America and Americans.

This is GAF, it is a community, and the majority of its members and former mods were decent people having fantastic discourse. It was my go to site for news, gaming and off-topic, and provided me with many smiles, if not loud laughter, thoughts, some challenging but all nourishing, over the years.

It would be a shame to lose this, because there aren't many refuges of enlightened, collegiate, somewhat boisterous, but generally well meant debate and community left on the web. GAF was one of those, and if it passes, in the form we knew, loved, and hated, then something dies.

On a last point of warning, OT needs to be brought back, and the comments about moderating out social and political topics needs to be dropped. A good site, with good moderators, will keep things in line. That is why we came here. The minute a site says that we are incapable of addressing certain topics, and being big boys and girls about it, then that site loses its identity and purpose.

Peace. Chill everyone.

Preach.

My main reason for joining this forum a decade ago was to join in on the off topic television and sports communities. Outside of the occasional Witcher circle jerk there's nothing left for me here.

Enjoy your new found purity of counting console frames and bitching about downgrades.

Missed all of the events that led to this site nuking.....I really hope we get the OT and OT/Community back in full form, reasonably moderated.

There were so many great threads, political, social, silly, random. It brought balance to the community that came here first and foremost for gaming.

Having a place to talk about all the other aspects of life with the vast community of video game fans on here was a rare and special thing.

I hope it gets returned soon. I agree that this place feels distinctly cold and hollow without them and just strictly limited to gaming discussion, as strange as that sounds.....

If they do bring back political discussion, they better do a much better job because all it was was shit show; a far left echo chamber. Many posters were banned for expressing the wrong political beliefs. And the pile ons that some posters received for dare questioning the narrative were a disgrace.

Anyone who continues to use this site with the intention to "talk about video games" is putting ad revenue money in the hands of sexual predator and attempted rapist.

If you willfully aware of that, then you too are complicit in this monstrous cultural abuse of power over all women.

TLDR: Just by being on this site, you are giving a rapist his rent money.

I mean, dude put on the faux "white ally" bullshit you're putting on.

I have as much reason to trust him as I do you.

All we're hearing is allegations. Nothing has been proven to this point. So we're suppose to believe everything we read and hear? Is that how it works now?

exactly. im not judging someone based on the allegations of a stranger. that's kind of insane to do so.

Right? And these people claim they want to talk politics like adults? Good luck with Reset boys and girls, you'll need it.

It has been always like this, Gaf was enveloped in a long hallucination that it discussed politics like grown ups and with respect when it was absolutely anything but that

This is quite a surprise to me. I didn't see anything related to this controversy before the site went down; I simply thought that this was just site maintenance that went on for quite a bit longer than normal.

I'm not sure how to respond to this. I can't comment on the allegations against Evilore since there is no way to know the truth of the matter right now, but his changes to the site in response does paints neither him nor the the future of this site in a good light.

As a gay person, NeoGAF was one of the few sites on the internet I could be a part of without having to fear harassment or threats just for being myself. I found many like-minded people on this site that have given me more confidence in myself and more hope for the good of others, and the excellent moderating staff helped make that happen. Now... that has been taken away from me, and it seems that many other good people, including many moderators, are gone, too.

I... don't know if I can continue being a member on this site. Unfortunately, I have no idea about where else to go where both gaming culture and an accepting community blends so well.

And even when they bring OT back, I'm hoping that Evilore will recruit strong MODs to support that. It can become a viper pit.

But in general, I'm glad to have refocus man.
Problem is, how will we know, since they'll all be anonymous now? Especially with the complaints of mod overreach in the past, if one feels that way about the mod team and how they handled things in the past. How do we avoid the same happening, since everything will just become more anonymous and it will become even more difficult to figure out what's going on or why? Seems set up to be a recipe for disaster.
