The Order 1886 dethroned?
Yup.
Hmmm.
Different styles of art direction, etc.. Maybe complemented would be a better word?
I still find The Order jaw dropping.

I said it before and it's just my opinion, but I'll repeat myself. The crisp and sharp IQ of Uncharted 4 already puts it ahead of The Order. Of course, The Order does some things better, like higher res shadows and better material shading (so far), but overall I find Uncharted 4 to be the more impressive looking game.Hmmm.

Just as an aside, I just saw the latest Bob's Burgers episode. When the kids try to find a way through that poison ivy field and they see those stones they can use for that (jump from one to another to avoid getting contact with the plants), the Uncharted "clue jingle" sounds.
Hmmm.

This is my exact feeling, with my go-to example. Swear I've said this so many times over the years.
Really cool stuff
Is there a thread for the NX Gamer tech analysis? Just in case there isn't:

Ehh nothing really new in there.

Is it me or do the colours look less vibrant in this footage?

In my personal opinion this is our strongest beginning, opening sequence for games since the Last of Us, which was obviously very emotional, but I think this is probably one of the best opening sequences as well. That feeling of wanting to keep playing and wanting to know where it goes continues the entire game.

So NX Gamer just posted a video about the preview, and he talked a lot out of his ass, as usual.

Kinda confused by how he worded it, but I think he meant it's the best opening in a videogame since TLOU.
Can you point out what he said that was wrong? Why is he talking out of his ass? Is it because you don't understand what soft body modeling or decal shaders are?So NX Gamer just posted a video about the preview, and he talked a lot out of his ass, as usual.
He's right about one thing though: the jeep's handling model seems particularly well done for a non-racing game.
GOTG and it hasn't even come out yet!!Looks like he doesnt want to say it is better, but he thinks so.
Man... if they actually top TLOU intro...

Outside of the cutscenes I don't think I've seen jaw-dropping graphics from Uncharted 4. It is a testament to how much art direction contributes to how good a game looks, but I haven't had a "that looks like real life" moment in the footage I've seen yet. It might not even be a technology thing as much as it's an aesthetic choice Naughty Dog made with elements like the colour palette.
And that's ignoring scale. The minute you consider that The Order 1886 is worse looking than Uncharted 4, and Uncharted 4 is worse looking than GTA V. I'm speaking strictly about how it looks, ignoring the way a game gets there.

so i just watched that madagscar video and the license plate spells out Elena
Naughty Dog isn't aiming for photorealism, so you obviously won't ever get that feeling. Everything in the world is stylized. Also, a few games like DriveClub manage to capture that feeling because cars invoke much less of an uncanny valley feeling. You're entitled to your own opinion, but I definitely find Uncharted 4 to be the better looking game. I'm not a big fan of heavy post processed look in games and I find sharp and crisp IQ to be much more pleasing. And that's ignoring all the other stuff that puts Uncharted 4 ahead of The Order for me.Outside of the cutscenes I don't think I've seen jaw-dropping graphics from Uncharted 4. Seeing as everything is perfect in the Madagascar videos its even more annoying that they gone for that awful yellow lines over enemies. Why not use the white lines from the first Playstation Experience video. So much better, i want to use tag but i cant because its so awful and immersive breaking.

Lmao.
Could've sworn they did this before too.... forget which game.

Holy shit! That's amazing!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KaIymapiq0#t=7m17s
Wow the way Sam and Sully turn their heads to look at Nate when he returns to the car. Just a small detail but makes it so much more immersive
To be fair, as good as Uncharted 4 looks (I personally agree with you that it is the best looking game right now), I wouldn't say that the price for the open ended scale was very little. ND definitely made the right compromises to make the sacrifices less obvious, though. Anyway, the GI solution in the game is mostly baked while a game with a significantly smaller scale like QB is doing real time GI. Of course, QB has many compromises of its own, especially the 720p resolution, but let's not dwell on that. The question is what is the price you pay for the scale?
U4's price seems very little, the game looks amazing regardless, and when you add the scale, physics and animations you get an incredible package.
This type of move reeks of some awful gamers known as focus testers.... :\Hopefully they would allow customization for the tagging, currently it's so ugly, I can't use it even If I like the tagging system.
Even TLOU's listen mode looked better than this, and I agree about the PSX's version being the best- a white and soft outline when in danger, what's wrong with that?
Really hope that there is a PSX option in there.
Feels to me like ND are really staking their claim to be the best in the world right now, the attention to small detail is phenomenal, and the sheer amount of work involved in its creation must be staggering.
You really have to hand it to them for sheer effort.

Also, the shadows in Uncharted 4 are not far ahead of your typical current gen game and a little low res on top of dithering. Meanwhile, The Order has significantly sharper shadows and is even using penumbra. Anyway, I'm not really disagreeing with you, just listing down some of the sacrifices of a larger scale.
I definitely agree with you here, in fact, like I said, I never was disagreeing with you. ND definitely made the right call by expanding the scale of the game immensely compared to its predecessors. I absolutely love games with open ended level designs. However, I must admit I'm a tad disappointed by the shadow resolution. I'll reserve my judgement about the shadows when the game releases, though. There will always be some sacrifices, but I don't find them too severe when looking on U4 compared to other much smaler scale games including TO 1886, obviously if it was Uncharted 3.5 (meaning the same old games only on new hardware, like FO4 is in a way, only actually technically advance and not looking like shit :/) it would look better visually (and be at a bigger scale, cause old Uncharted games felt much bigger than TO as well), and probably there wouldn't even be a debate whenever TO looks better or not on a "pure" visual level, but when the gap is not really there, and U4 is doing so much more, it's really an easy answer for me.
Like I said, it's all about the balance and how much I get for those sacrifices, TO 1886 works under much better conditions and I feel like I didn't get much when comparing it to U4.
QB's have a bad IQ, very annoying pop-ups, bad shadows, dated animations, some rought textures, and work under much smaller scale, it is probably the best looking game on XB1 without much question, but I find U4's package ot be much more superior. Again, the price of the GI wasn't worth it when comparing it to U4 (though QB had to have this lighting for the purpose of the gameplay) and even the lighting in QB can often be low res and full of artifacts.
So yea, I can't ignore the conditions that games operate under, If David Cage's game isn't going to look much better, I can't be hyped about the visuals just because they surpass the competition, it needs to show me that the sacrifices were worth it cause I'm playing something that looks like half a gen above the rest.
The way I see it, it's a balance between scale and visuals, GTA5 is obviously huge, but visually TO looks like almost a gen above it.
The question is what is the price you pay for the scale, for all the physics and animations that's going on?
U4's price seems very little, the game looks amazing regardless, and when you add the scale, physics and animations you get an incredible package.
TO though, it's not looking good enough (compared to U4, on its own it looks amazing) to justify a shoe box scale with a lifeless world, no physics and pretty dated animations, you know what I mean? If it would look like half a gen at least above U4 and other linear games I would say it's justified, but it's not, U4 is looking as good (I think better, but even if you think a little less, still not a big gap at all) while doing so, so much more, so overall it just smokes TO, it's not even close.
Let's say that if David Cage's game would look better than TO, U4 etc, but not really by much, although there is hardly any gameplay, no scale, AI and such, wouldn't you find it disappointing? most of us would, cause we expect a game that works under such conditions to look much better than a game like U4 and even TO 1886, it needs to show an amazing jump just like I felt while playing Beyond 2 Souls, like no game come close to it visually.
Hopefully I was clear in my definition.
I understand what you're saying, I just don't think you can qualify graphics with scale, otherwise there's always some game that 'looks better' because it actually does more challenging things.
So if a David Cage game is the best looking console game ever made, it's the best looking console game ever made, even if it doesn't look that much better than Uncharted 4 or The Order 1886.
But, again, I do understand where you're coming from.
