I highly doubt that anything coming during the first 2-3 months of this year will be as big as the popular third party franchises that released in November. Games like Call of Duty and NBA 2K continue on selling pretty well (NPD) until the summer months.
I just don't see it. Those games might keep selling, but they won't move that many systems, mostly because it's January, and in MS's case, they removed a very aggresive incentive that will add to the already general lack of interest most people show after the holidays.
If you missed such great Xbone deals in the holidays, I don't know why would you be interesed in getting the system at a higher price in January because of already released games, regardless of how big they are. It just doesn't make sense to me.
Again, I never said it's exclusive to the Xbox One. Said many times that both systems will get it. The Xbox One selling more these past two months (that is again, if it beat the PS4 in December) means that there's more people who got it during the Christmas season. The "what console did you get for Christmas?" question will be answered with Xbox One more than PS4 and as I said previously, that will help a few to decide what console to get (people wanting to play with others online) especially since they are both the same price (instead of one only being available for $100 than the competitor like last year).
I'm not convinced the Xbone selling better these holidays is a major reason for it to sell more than usual in January at a $400 price. I don't think word of mouth will work when your competitor still has more units sold and you are coming from offering ridiculous deals just to bring the price back up. I don't see it, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
January has no major games so both consoles this month will be selling alongside what was released in November. I don't feel confident in saying what console will take this month (January 2015 NPD) yet.
Like I said, this doesn't make sense if you missed out on November/December deals. If you're bothering to get a system in January, I don't think already released games will be a major factor. I think upcoming games play a major role than already released ones at this point. Hell, word of mouth is much more believable for me.
