TITANFALL 2 Reviews Thread

Most reviewers wouldn't have been all that into Titanfall 1. Given TF2 multiplayer feels so much like CoD now, I can understand the "improved multiplayer" calls. Given they all love CoD.

For perspective, a CoD game hasn't gotten a Metacritic score as high as Titanfall 2 since MW3.

Black Ops II (360): 83
Ghosts (PS4): 78
Advanced Warfare (PS4): 84
Black Ops III (PS4): 81

The tech test did and the map design played a fairly significant role in that.

Ultimately, I can't get on board. Not this time. Rodeoing forces team work where the option may not exist, bots have been reduced significantly, maps are more linear, weapon count reduced to 2. There's just too many changes from the original that for ME, aren't for the better.
The whole battery system and lack of starting shields on titans makes me think that I'll have a much harder time when playing solo, which is already enough of a problem in most shooters these days.

Its great for teams focused on being competitive, but its exactly the kind of thing that makes the game less accessible for casual fun like the original.

That still really bothers me how I can drop my Titan with no shield, have someone steal my battery, kill them and get it back, and suddenly have a shield.

well, a good strategy would be to get a battery pack before calling down your titan.

Kind of a weird question I guess for those who've played it:

Is the campaign suitable for a 13 year old?

My son likes to sit in on some campaigns I play like Uncharted 4, Halo 5, and such

Has anyone done a digital preorder at bestbuy before? when do they usually email codes out? It just says email sent on their site and never received one. BB support had no clue and guessed that it was just a promo code sent out and not the game code.

Definitely getting the game but still the whole battery thing doesn't make sense whatsoever.
Well, from a competitive standpoint there's actually a lot to like.

* Titan domination won't be as crazy, players can't just "run" all the time to replenish shields.
* Capping flags on the back of a titan will be less viable
* Players will focus on grabbing battery packs before calling in a titan. This adds another element to the game. Right now as it is competitive play usually ends up either 1 team quickly dropping multiple titans, or a team waiting to drop titans while they pick away at enemy titans health.
* It adds a whole other layer to strategies for LTS, CTF, Attrtion which i think will work out well

I hear you.

I got mine from there (import). Got my code in about an hour.

What a pleasant fucking surprise. Gg Respawn.

Why not a stellar 100 hour co-op campaign with infinite replayability? That would be even better IMO.

Because making a 10 hour campaign is actually doable, and your proposal is just edgy nonsense.

They could absolutely have made a longer campaign. Same is true for DICE with Battlefield 1. But that would mean that EA needs to invest more into their games. Which means less profit. But that isn't an option for a company which puts profit above everything else. Just look at all the micro transactions / season pass / early enlister crap. It's all about money.

I forgot this was being released so soon. I literally just picked up gears 4, forza horizon 3 and bf1. Im going to be a busy boy

This feels further exacerbated on a number of maps that are far more restricted and confined than the previous game. Verticality seems like less of a priority, but more frustratingly, several maps have large tunnel like sections that make them downright claustrophobic.
It's 9 at launch.

too much competition for this game out right now. that and no origin discount or even trial? Guessing the campaign is less than 10 and they couldn't get a way to limit you to just a part of the campaign like BF1. Wish they just sold it without the mp for less. Well wait till it hits the discount bin for 10-15 bucks. Just way too many popular MP games out there right now and this did not have a good rep from the first game. good ratings...thinking poor sales. really should have pushed this game out to feb 17 or had it earlier in the fall before everyone else released. wish them luck.

After reading a lot of these, this is a solid pass until later in the year. MP just doesn't sound like something I want at this point, but I think Respawn will kill it with DLC down the line.

Already picked up Gears of War 4 and COD:IW Digital Deluxe. I think I'll put this on my purchase when on sale list along with BF:One. Nice that it comes with the map packs for one low price. :)

I believe he's taking it as the remaining 6 maps are like the 3 maps from the technical test, which weren't very good in comparison to the maps in the original.

Even throwing out the Polygon impression, if Respawn nailed all of their non-tech test maps, this means Titanfall 2 is shipping with 6 good maps. Because 6 is their ceiling post-alpha unless the pre-existing ones somehow underwent level design changes.

Since you were there can you give us the whole postmortem of the project.

I read Polygon - Gies' review (He gave Titanfall 1 a 9 btw).

Same song and dance that we have heard from others from the Tech Test. Not enough verticality in the new maps, doesn't like that the Titans do not have shields any more and that Pilot Anti-Tank weapons are not strong enough.

I have said this before but Respawn had to make some changes to the MP because the community/player base did not stick around last time. Nothing will push people away from a game more than very good players with Titans never losing their Titans by running away every time their shield goes down.

For me I guess it is good I barely played Titanfall 1, but I will say Respawn made changes after the tech test and they added Attrition back (if it was ever gone?) after the feedback.

I am really excited for this game, getting it on the PS4.

But do you really want to chase off your most loyal fans? Titanfall 2 was probably my most anticipated game of the year before the tech test. After that I decided I would rent it at launch see if enough of my complaints were addressed to warrant picking it up, otherwise I'll just use that money to buy a year of Live and continue playing the original.

That's not a lot of maps. :(

Gies gave Titanfall a 9 because of
Xbox one exclusive

I actually agree with Polygon a lot. I wish I listened to them concerning Shadow Fall, they ripped it apart and rightfully so. Biggest piece of shit I bought at PS4 launch. Driveclub launch version was mediocre as well.

But Titanfall 2 is for me the first Titanfall and the Tech Test was fun enough to keep on playing it though I saw some issues with and I do know how the first game played. Still, there is nothing like it on PS4. Infinity Warfare beta felt like some sort of troll version of this.

Great job cutting the rest of my post. I don't have to know any intimate details about this specific project to know that EA only invests in highly profitable projects, with the goal of making as much money as possible. I also gave examples in my post for that. What I don't quite understand is, why exactly are you defending a publisher like EA here? I mean I get defending developers, which you have done here unnecessarily by posting a snarky "lazy devs!" when not a single person here really blamed the devs for the length of the campaign. But EA? Really?

But do you really want to chase off your most loyal fans? I
don't even. On console the most loyal fans are all going to jump on the new game. Tons of reddit pc veterans as well, and if not all then most of the visible veterans from the competitive pc community.

Yes, there are some "loyal" fans that have cried and claim they won't be buying titanfall 2 but don't pretend that group isn't in the minority
