TITANFALL 2 Reviews Thread

I think this is the first time a review thread has actually made me MORE hyped for a game I was already hyped for.

GG Respawn, you guys deserve this :) Seriously, Friday can't come soon enough.

A lot higher than I expected, glad to hear its scoring well. Still think its going to get lost amidst the chaos of BF1 (10/10), Watch Dogs 2, FF15, Infinite Warfare, etc but I'm glad I kept my pre order and I'll be playing on PC.

I'm in the same boat, I totally need to see what Respawn cooked up with the SP campaign

BREAK OUT THE TINFOIL HATS!

A lot of the outlets that have reviewed the game already were ones that gave the original game an 8.5 or higher.

There are no microtransactions, according to FrothyOmen (well-known Titanfall YouTuber). Curious, I was always assuming the game would have cosmetic microtransactions since all the map/mode/gun/etc DLC is free.

Emslie: Day 1, we have a massive amount of camos and we actually call them ‘war paint.’ There’s war paints for very specific… not just camo, but different like, chromed-out stuff and different stylings of decals and stuff like that. We also have nose art which goes over the front of the Titan, which in most cases is custom to each type of Titan. Pilot… Pilot weapons, you can throw camo on. Titan weapons, you can throw camo on. There could be, based on where we go with DLC, there may be a point where we charge for cosmetics, but we’re not there yet.

I have zero interest in the campaign. Is there a way I can test game out without it ? A tutorial or multiplayer test range?

Every game has to have a balance for both the most loyal/hardcore and the casual audience unless your game has a huge loyal fanbase which Titanfall 1 did not have.

They did change a ton of things from the Tech Test to launch but asking them to make it exactly like Titanfall 1 is not the right move since the first one did not keep players.

The first one didn't keep players because of the lack of content and the paid maps splitting the community. The latter won't be an issue with the free maps, but with only 9 maps at launch I'm not sure the base will last until the free stuff drops, especially launching between Battlefield and CoD.

I thought this was the case too but I think the battery system is much better than the old rodeo system which really was much simpler. Complexity isn't bad and in this case I like how it rewards rodeoing for the pilot while also limiting the damage to a Titan in a single rodeo.

Titanfall 1 favored the pilot if the Titan didn't pick electric smoke and favored the Titan if it did. It was very basic and not much fun for either.

Wrong.[/Donald]

You could get pilots off with grenade launchers or cluster missiles, among other things i probably never thought of. Or just exit the Titan and kill them. Or boost to a teammate and have them kill the pilot. Or, my personal favorite, if you notice a friendly Titan nuke ejecting, boost into the blast zone and the player trying to rodeo you is dead.

Titanfall doesnt have much in terms of content, but what is there is balanced and fucking works. TF2 is a clear step in the CoD direction, where everything needs a progress bar and unlockables and balance takes a back seat to fluff. I hope I am wrong though. I will be playing TF all day tomorrow trying to wrap up the last Frontier achievement so that I will have max gamerscore.

There probably will be post launch. EA published titles regularly launch without them but get them added at a later date.
Fair enough. IIRC Battlefield 3 added microtransactions for Battlepacks post-launch. From the sound of it, Advocate Gifts are this game's cosmetic crate, so those could be monetized post-launch.

The numbers...

Funny meme xD

Between this, Battlefield 1 and WoW's 7.1 patch I just have too many games to play. God dammit.

I agree with you about smoke, generally when I saw someone running smoke I assumed they were new to the game.

From what I have seen of post tech test game play, I don't think this is game is the step in the COD direction you're asserting. the game has changed but it still *looks* like Titanfall, seems like most of the reviews back that up. Whenever I read reviewers gush over pilot movement my TT issues slowly dissipate. My only concern at this point are the maps and titan shields.

Anytime I open a polygon link (which is rare enough), search for the author...see 'Arthur Gies'... immediately close tab. That guy has wasted enough of my mental bandwidth. I'm sure some of his content is decent, but fool me twice...

Looking forward to Gerstmann's thoughts.

Man, October is killer. Still playing the hell out of Gears 4 and barely touched Shadow Warrior 2. Plus Factorio keeps sucking up hours every time I turn it on.
How the hell am I supposed to fit in Battlefield 1, Civ 6 and Titanfall 2? I mean Civ 6 alone could last me till 2017.

seriously I just can't trust his analysis on anything.

He really liked the first Titanfall so his thoughts on the sequel have to be worth something to you.

Has nothing to do with his score(s). I don't care about his thoughts on either game. I simply don't respect his opinions on any topic at this point. His conduct as a critic and the stubborn nature of his positions (even when proven wrong) makes his a voice I happily mute.

There are too many respectable voices out there to waste time with Gies and Polygon as a whole to an extent. That site's talent needs a 101 on respecting the readership and need to get off their high horses.

Huh. How come the beta was said to be disappointing to the vast majority of people but the final game is getting such good reviews? Weird.

I'm getting strong MW2 vibes from this and that's something i can't find in years.I may get my physical copy 2 days early but we'll see.

Oh man, can't wait for this. This month is just ridiculous.

Haven't even gotten close to finishing Gears 4, haven't even touched BF1's (supposedly good) campaign, and this is just gonna be the icing on the cake.

This month is insane for shooters, and I've been in a shooter mood for a little while, so it came at a perfect time for me. EA delivered quite a one-two punch; I really wonder how COD will sell in comparison to BF1 and Titanfall 2.

TITANFALL 2 |OT| FPS EVOLVED

THe first one doesn't make sense and the second confuses due to the other game with the same name and there being no connection between the two.

Do we have to force jokes into thread titles? How about:

TITANFALL 2 |OT|

Except it wasn't a titanfall 2 BETA... it was a "PRE-ALPHA tech test" Look at the capitalized words
If you want to get into semantics, Pre-Alpha for the game would have been some time in mid-late 2014, not two months before launch.

That said, the build for the tech test was from back in May, and while some things could have changed between then and August, there are things that would be way too far along to be changed without having to push the game back. If the person had an issue with gun balance, that's something that could be tweaked. If the person had an issue with something like the map design or didn't like how weapons and abilities were locked to Titan chassis's, that's not really something that can be changed so quickly.
