TITANFALL 2 Reviews Thread

Which is why I put the later half in it. Another comparison is Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 1. They're similar, but there are enough differences that fans of the first might not like the second.

No one has to automatically like the changes in place. Just like I said everyone is also free to enjoy 2 as well. But for me personally 2 doesn't give me the same feeling as 1. If it does for you that's fine, but it doesn't for me.

I mainly played campaign and attrition in T1. A big part of my enjoyment was the non lane maps and the mass amounts of AI and chatter that made the game feel like a warzone. Also preferred the mech style. T2 doesn't offer that. So yeah even if they're similar such small changes can impact people's enjoyment.

There's a multitude of other games I could list as well that are the same on the core level but different with other systems introduced or taken away.

I feel like you didn't even read my entire post, just wanted to call me out for disliking it. Which I have every right to.?
i read it but then you go and make that gears comparison. It's nothing liike that. Not even close.

I'm using those as very loose comparisons. Gears was a bit more than other games but the comparison stands. On the base it stands similar, though deeper down it doesn't. T2 is indeed more similar to T1 than Gears 2 was to 1 for mp. But there's still enough of a change that it stands out for some players like myself.

I'm not saying games can't change, but I can dislike changes even if others consider them small. Sometimes small bumps are enough to interrupts someone's enjoyment.

What are those changes that really ruin it for you? Because the way I see it the biggest and most profound change won't be noticed by a majority of players.

The shield thing is the second biggest change and one I think people need to give a chance to before writing it off. What else is really bothering you? Please don't tell me third person embarking =]

Gears 2 made a ton of changes, and not to mention it was broken on release with horrible net code and matchmaking issues

This is a weird review in a way. They note the things that TF was missing, including a single player campaign. Then they talk about TF2's campaign and it seems like they feel its completely forgettable and spend the majority of the review on the MP...then score the game a 4/5? If the long awaited component that you felt was missing ends up completely forgettable but the MP was good enough to score a 4/5, why even bother with the SP? Did they just want a box to tick off? If the game didn't have the SP, would it score higher or lower?

What a strange review.

I feel the same way.

T2 is still a great game but the changes they made from the first feel like they subtract from my own experience rather than add to it.

They're smaller things. Which is why I said I'm in the minority here and don't hold anything against those who like 2. Was never a pro player so I never got deep on the systems. I only played campaign and attrition. But the changes I dislike (even if I understand why they were changed)

-Class system for pilots and mechs
-Side Arm or Titan Weapon and not both
-Less bots in attrition
-Less battlefield chatter and immersion
-map structure (only did beta so new maps might be better)

I'll be giving the SP and MP a try this Friday, to see what other changes were made before I completely write it off. But those small changes were enough to take enjoyment away for me while playing the two week beta.

The Easy Allies review has me pretty sold on it. A shame that the capaign didn't turn out to be that great, though it still looks fun.

Damn, I'm really torn between this and Battlefield 1.
BF1 has been getting a better reception and I was surprised to hear that even the campaign seems to be fun. Plus several clips I've seen look amazing. But I'm not the biggest Battlefield fan, I feel like battles are either too chaotic because of all the players or then in other games modes you spend 10 minutes running towards the objective to be killed by some sniper camping on some building like 1000 miles away from you

This does also look really fun. But to me it looks pretty similar to Black Ops 3. I mean, technically the movement in Black Ops 3 was inspired by Titanfall one, but the point is that they look like very similar experiences

Oh man, just wait until you get into a Titan. It'll be anything but BO3.

Yeah, definitely small things i think you'll end up getting over but

-class systems for pilots? not sure what you mean by this. you mean how they look? the first one did this as well, only it was by weapon chosen not ability chosen.
-i'm a little confused on why they did this as well but not a big deal.
-i believe they said it was the same amount of bots but they're more strategically placed and dropped around the maps
-I think this was also the same? on modes with a.i there's a lot of chatter. we'll see
-the new maps look way better and i'm sure Respawn has listened, and i expect the remaining DLC Maps to be very very titanfall 1 like.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkSSQw8c_2U CTF craziness. Damn i'm excited

-Side Arm or Titan Weapon and not both

<Standard "I'm a coder not a designer" disclamer>

As a player my experience has been that this is mitigated by the blurring between the definitions of pilot and titan weaponry. The previously "pilot only" weapons do a lot more damage to titans than they did in the first game. I believe the intent was to put them more on a spectrum of effectiveness than the previous game's hard distinction.

... two week beta.

Pre alpha, not beta ;) Once people get a feel for how different retail is I think it will sink in just how pre alpha the tech test was...

Based on Frothyomen's videos, it seems like the anti-titan weapons have variable effectiveness against pilots. This is much different than titanfall 1 where you would rarely use an anti-titan weapon to take down a pilot. The anti-titan weapons being useful against pilots looks very interesting to me.

Yeah small things that I hope I can get over with the retail release.

I fugured there's an actual reason balance wise for such changes. Though I do miss having three weapons lol.
Yeah hoping the retail version really does sit differently with me.

I would easily kill pilots with everything but the Archer Heavy Rocket. The charge rifle was amazing for 1 hit kills.

My gripe with the game is the battery mechanic and that the enemies are highlighted still. I would have kept the energy shield but maybe lowered the health of it and still would have the battery attached to it to steal. Drop grenades out of your available ammo for more damage while rodeo or still shoot with your other weapons. The enemies would only be highlighted for a limited time if someone used sonar.

I never actually liked the Titan gameplay very much in TF1, so I'm not super upset about the changes in TF2.

The main thing that bugs me is how they cranked up the gravity. In TF1 you could sort of just float around the maps and build up speed. TF2 felt a lot heavier and more weighty when I played the tech test.

Yeah it made for a good improvised sniper rifle when you needed one. ^^
I've met other players using the grenade launcher against pilots and grunts, those are annoying to be honest. I don't think I've ever been killed by a sidewinder though (or killed anybody with it). I must have seen more accidental archer kills, when shooting at a Titan and a pilot getting in the way.

Huh...didn't play tech test but this looks just as good as T1 to me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaaYz29jMQg

Yeah, i thought of that but it's still not as effective as a sidearm. I'm ok with it because you can adjust your build on the fly.

The only thing that really upsets me is what they did to my precious sidewinder =(
it's not as effective on titans, and it's been relegated to a primary NOOOOOOOO

Looks just like Black Ops 3

haaaaaaaa

eh? i felt the tech test was actually floatier. You couldn't do as precise cuts in air like you could in the original.

I think you're referring to the wall bouncing that was changed, but then adjusted in the second weekend of the tech test. That + the inability to continuously bunny hop made it feel slower. The tweaks and slide hop fix all that though.

I feel like people are forgetting that Titanfall had some "bad" maps as well. For me, Boneyard, Airbase, Demeter, Fracture and Outpost 207 weren't very fun. The wall running was limited and verticality mostly consisted of campy rooftops.

I think they changed the values a little bit after people complained, but it still feels like you fall a little faster even in that clip. The main part where I noticed a difference was right after you eject from a Titan. In TF2 it you seemed to drop like a rock.

The big thing is that they lowered the jump height and jump speed. You can still wall run and go pretty fast, but it feels different.

EDIT: I could have sworn Respawn said in an interview that they reduced the jump height in order to make the gameplay less twitchy. I'll see if I can find it.

Really surprised this doesn't have early access like battlefield 1 did with the digital deluxe edition. Read a thread on here last week saying they made like 5 million from withholding the game and releasing it worldwide last Friday.

Can I say? Runoff was THE best R1 map. But I doubt we'd ever get a design like that with Northstar in this game.

Demeter is a decent map, airbase ain't so bad. Fracture is an LTS map and outpost and boneyard suck for everything.

I'm pretty sure they confirmed jump height was the same and the eject height was a bug that was fixed after the tech test. The values were tweaked, and i believe someone said tweaked again for retail.

Can't believe I'm saying this but I want more bots, please.

I agree, i'd like to see the a.i in ctf, not like they were in the original game but just a few of them around the map at times would be nice.

Could've sworn one of the maps on release is a glorified runoff. it seems like the buildings and walls are bigger in this game.

Outpost and Boneyard were alright. Some of those DLC maps though.

Would def. vote for Swampland and Wargames to be brought back though.

In this interview they mentioned that they tried to slow the game down.

From the latest gameplay videos it looks like they've made a lot of adjustments though. I think I might be ready to jump back on board the hype train.

yes, we're all well aware of those interviews. that ball has been batted around here a great deal during the tech test. I'm pretty sure a dev in here confirmed that the jump heights were the same though.

Swampland is awful. so so awful. the whole parkour around a tree sounded cool in theory but it never really worked out that well.

I mean, how Titans could fall into the bottom lane and couldn't resurface until they went around to the corners of the map was awesome. It was great for every single mode.

my copy arrived this morning, servers aren't up tho :P

really nice IQ on PS4. maybe a little soft, but not a lot of jaggies.

I could pick it up also locally. I won't though because physical blows.

Dude, can you PM me some spoilery stuff? Does the Campaign say that it'll unlock anything? Is there an unlockable difficulty?

Achievements?

you bastarddddd how??? amazon?
local store :P
Can you share the trophy lists?
i don't think so, it doesn't show up in my trophy list yet.

thanks to #brexit US digital became more expensive than local physical so that's where I'm at now

I've played like 10 minutes tbh :P and unfortunately trophy list doesn't appear yet.

there only seems to be four difficulty settings. easy, regular, hard, master.

there's a nice selection of control options - button and stick layouts, sensitivity (obvs), response curve, right and left stick dead zones, and the ability to turn off the DOF effect when aiming down sights. there's also a few multi only HUD options.

Wow, that looks great.

I have it preordered on PS4 because of the Amazon E3 deal. I hope I can get used to playing Titanfall with a controller...

You should be able to see it if you hold the PS button and check the trophy list for the game in the quick menu. I was able to see the list for Destroy All Humans that way since my brother got it in the brief time it was up the other day before being pulled, and the game wouldn't show up in my full trophy list.

I am all set to preorder this, my first Titanfall but I am really concerned about the PC player base. Impossible for us to tell of course but I just don't want to buy it and not be able to find any games online in a few months.

no fov slider that i can see
Why cant I ever be this lucky 😢
maybe you will be! :)

yeah, I can see it there but most of them are hidden.

screens are all from first 10-15 minutes, no spoilers
ok, not gonna post anymore campaign screens :D enjoying it so far. loved the visual design of the first titanfall and that has obviously been carried over here. it's still incredible to me that this is source.
