TITANFALL 2 Reviews Thread

I am all set to preorder this, my first Titanfall but I am really concerned about the PC player base. Impossible for us to tell of course but I just don't want to buy it and not be able to find any games online in a few months.

Thats why I think I am going with a PS4 copy this time around.

Same here. I want to pick this game up but after my experience with TF1 on PC I don't know if it is worth the cash spent as I will most likely never touch the SP campaign. Getting it on console is of no interest to me at the moment.

If this was last year I would have done the same but I am trying to just leave FPS to PC now. I just cannot play FPS with a controller and have nearly as much fun as I do with a mouse and keyboard.

As long as I can still find games for popular modes I am fine with PC....might just pull the trigger since CDKeys has it for a decent price.

I am buying it for the Campaign as well so at least there is that...if I was in your shoes I would be hesitant too.

no fov slider that i can see

maybe you will be! :)

yeah, I can see it there but most of them are hidden.

screens are all from first 10-15 minutes, no spoilers

ok, not gonna post anymore campaign screens :D enjoying it so far. loved the visual design of the first titanfall and that has obviously been carried over here. it's still incredible to me that this is source.

My goodness, those are pretty. Can't wait to transition to the Pro. Bodes well if it already looks this good on vanilla.

I hope EA let Respawn use their Frostbite engine for the next game. Gameplay is solid but the visuals aren't the prettiest. A nicer looking game would go a long way in grabbing more attention.

For everyone on the fence about PC, I think it will honestly be fine this time around. It will def be populated enough where you can get into the popular modes instantly in a few months time, and probably every game mode for the first months of launch. Even Frothyomen believes it will last A LOT longer this time around compared to titanfall 1 (in which he was able to put 1000+ hours into).

I can see them maybe moving to UE4 but I don't think they'll ever move to Frostbite.

It is a possibility. Only issue is I just bought BF1 last week and I feel like will be taking a lot of potential players from TF2 since the releases are so close. I've been watching some of his TF2 vids today at work and I do think that this might have more staying power than TF1, especially if they keep a decent content stream of maps, pilot/titans, and modes.

I will remain cautiously optimistic.

Have there been any reviews for the PC version? Seems like all the reviews are for PS4.

Torn between getting it for PC of PS4. In TF1, I could do fine with a controller on PC. If they have the same controller support as last game, I'd rather get the PC version, can switch between kb/m or controller as needed.

As someone stated earlier in the thread... I dont think BF1s release will impact TF2s in any way. Sure they are two shooters, but they are two DIFFERENT types of shooters. Battlefield is for the people that are into 64 player warfare with vehicles and huge maps whereas Titanfall is for people who want to play a fast paced shooter in a smaller environment with badass titans. Titanfall will probably attract COD fans since the new one is very meh.

my copy arrived this morning, servers aren't up tho :P

really nice IQ on PS4. maybe a little soft, but not a lot of jaggies.

You have no idea how excited I am that people are enjoying the PS4 version. IQ should be better across the board on all platforms, we did a metric crapton of work on the renderer with the goal of better performance alongside better visuals.

Theres a couple on metacritic in the PC section of the game. A respawn entertainment member posted in this thread or another one was stating that the controller does indeed work flawlessly with the game on PC (and has aim assist like the first)

EZA's review sold me a copy. I don't have an Xbox One so I only got to play the first Titanfall at a friend's place, but I really liked what I played. This one looks even better.

It really is a noticeable improvement over the original, and performance in the campaign so far has been really solid. Really good work, and I'm looking forward to the pro version :)

Frostbite would change the feel of the movement big time. I rather them not.

What happened to Source 2? is that ever coming out? Valve's whole philosophy is cool on paper but fuck they take forever to get anything done.

Is it gonna be as fluid on Frostbite though? I doubt it. Big risk to take for some prettier graphics..

As a PS4 player I'm excited for my first Titanfall. EA was banking on people like me saving their money for October so I'll have a nice time alternating between this and BF1 when one or another pisses me off, lol.

Looks like the hard work has paid off. Congrats

Long wait until Friday to Stand by For Titanfall. Can't wait

The advanced movement mechanics of Titanfall are built upon the inherent physics of Source (and all quake engine descendants), switching to any other engine and you are not guaranteed to have the same kind of physics back.

AusGamers review has some terrible writing:

...Call Of Duty 4 and Battlefield 2 grounded things in a world of modern warfare, where it was all boots on the ground and eyes in the sky.

and this gem right after

...Some shooters didn't even allow jumping, like some perversion of the little town from Footloose.

What FPS does this, might I ask. I mean, I know TPS do, but all the prior examples are FPS so...

Man I was thinking of getting just FFXV before the year ended but this is looking really good. I loved the first Titanfall and wasn't too crazy about the technical test for this. After hearing about all the changes though and seeing these great reviews I'm pretty much sold! Looks like another great job by Respawn!

Well CoD is all but dead on PCs so that isn't saying much... Still I am going to be looking forward to how things fare on PC. I am a player who can appreciate both types of games and will probably jump between the two depending on how I feel.

Are there any reviews or even pre-release impressions that compare the MP in the final game to the pre-alpha test? I'm curious about what changes have been made.

Same support, taken a little further. You can again go back & forth on the fly (as you said).

Native support for wired PS4 controllers, too. You'll get correct button prompts, and properly-tuned deadzones/rumble/etc for that controller (or 360, or XB1).

Does this mean it polls the mouse and keyboard simultaneously so you could use a controller with the left hand and mouse with the right? I've been wanting to try that idea out.

I'd be surprised if that was the case. Purely anecdotal but PC players I know are going PS4 Pro + mouse/kb + xim4 this time around. I could see a few double dipping once Origin sale $5 but it'll be ghost town PC by then. I'd guess retention rate for PC players will be down around 30% compared titanfall 1 and it'll die off faster. Say 20% switch consoles this time around & another 10% don't wanna risk low player base. I'd luv a strong PC player base but I strongly doubt it.

No offense but that'd be completely stupid. What would be the point in stomping the competition that bad? That's not fun.

Well thats the challenge, keeping that fluidity and resposive controls. We haven't really had a twitchy shooter with it but the engine is quite flexible with Mirrors Edge etc. Unreal could be an option as someone said but you meet the same question.

Saying things like this is what makes people switch and kill the PC community faster than the actual game. Is the game gonna be as popular as consoles? Prob not, but i highly doubt it will die faster than titanfall 1. There are tons of people getting the game for PC (especially competetive players); the only thing left is "how fun it is" for people to continue playing.

Unreal is more likely than Frostbite. I've talked about this on other threads, but part of Respawn's deal with EA (as far as I understand it) is that they can take the Titanfall IP to another publisher if they don't like the way EA is treating them. Their relationship seems pretty good right now, based on the announcement of that Star Wars game, but if Respawn felt the need to part with EA farther down the line, using Frostbite would complicate that.

I didn't play Titanfall on PC when it came out so did the game have full controller support on PC? (with actual gamepad button prompts)

If so I'd guess it would be the same this time for Titanfall 2.

Really hope they don't do that. I wish there was a way for devs to disable XIM's. :=(

It's like, these people can't hack it on PC, so they resort to these kinds of BS on consoles. I mostly play solo even, and I know I don't want to meet asshats that like pub-stomping groups who are cheating. Yes, I think that's cheating.

I remember the BO3 thread. There was this GAF dude who admitted using a XIM but said he doesn't use it to cheat, but also admitted it helps him do very well. And naturally, people got pissed. I don't think he understood why...

Probably because they think playing a FPS with a controller is terrible compared to KBM. I tend to agree.

It's not even like it's "cheating" cause apparently sony sells peripherals designed for PS4.

Hell, if I owned a PS4, I'd do it at this point. Not gonna buy a console for one game though, and one I'd still rather play on PC assuming the community is there.

Yes but the difference between kb/m and thumbsticks is a really big difference. Just play it on PC. hell, you won't even find a large group of elite controller level players on PS4 to compete with.

there's no ranked matches right now either, there's no ascending to the top of the charts to compete against other kb/m xim players like in overwatch.

so stupid.

wait,

as a multi console owner I completely forgot that the PS4 didnt recieve the original Titanfall....

man you guys are in for a treat.

I saw Reiner from GI on Twitter was talking about how good he thought Battlefield 1's campaign was and then he jumped over to Titanfall 2 and was "HOLY SHIT! Never mind this is how you do a campaign!". So, sold. lol

I meant Sony is going to or is currently selling mouse and keyboard peripherals for the PS4. Anyone can or will be able to buy this stuff. Just like you can buy a 144hz monitor or even an elite controller, it's just a game in the end. If being the best means you gotta adapt or spend money, so what? Nothing is different than before.

This is good news to me, considering that I really enjoyed the single player campaign of Battlefield 1. Really looking forward to this one.

Yeah. BF1's campaign is great so when I read this last night it kind of put TF2 back on my radar:

I somehow convinced myself I'd only be getting BF1 as my only shooter this fall. Well that didn't stick as I got COD digitally and I'll be getting TF2 this weekend. lol
