TITANFALL 2 Reviews Thread

So, an elite controller isn't cheating.

And a SCUF controller isn't cheating.

But this officially licensed peripheral is?

If using a licensed keyboard and mouse peripheral in a shooter is cheating then using a fight stick in SFV is cheating.

Time to link two of my favorite articles again:

Sure is if the developer hasn't explicitly allowed for mouse input. Simple as that. Mouse aiming offers MUCH more speed, precision and control over analog controllers. It's not even close.

If Respawn specifically designs KB+M schemes and curves etc for their game and wants the KB+M users to be paired with normal control users then it's not cheating. If a workaround is used or it default works but not as allowed or designed by the developers etc. it's cheating. Simple as that. The physical hardware in and of itself does not constitute cheating.

That might be official hardware but is officially allowed and supported in every PS4 game? I dont think so. A Scuf/Elite controller is a poor comparison as it's still an analog based controller. We can remap those to whatever we which on both consoles as allowed by the console manufacturers and reap the "paddle" rewards with bumper-jumper type layouts. Sorry.

Does it support scripting? I could see leveraging that as being foul. But the peripheral itself isn't cheating, unless you're using it in a competition in which it's been banned.

No scripting

Exactly

But why?

It's the same price as an elite controller, it's officially licensed by Sony, and anyone can go buy it.

Because reasons

I'm torn between the PS4 or Xbox One versions.

PS4 - 900p and even better performance when the pro patch arrives.

Xbone - Elite controller and more of my friends are on Live.
You can use the Elite with PS4 but since all your friends are on XBox I see no reason to get it on PS4 (when MP is important to you).

What games block that tac keyboard/mouse?

95% of people using KB/M on consoles are doing it because they get an unfair advantage. The other 5% argue they use it because 'they want to play console exclusives or it's where their friends play' and they only feel comfortable with KB/M.

To the 95% I say go to PC. And if you don't, it's because you want an unfair advantage, so you are cheating.

To the 5% I say learn to use a controller like everyone else that's playing, because whether you like it or not you are getting an unfair advantage.

I play pc version with a controller. Please tell me what should I do?

So the same as those who purchase Elite or custom controllers, fight sticks, racing wheels, and several other peripherals that are made to provide a competitive advantage.

Racing wheels is a shit example because the games that allow them have specific configurations for them to work.

Fightsticks allow you to do nothing that you couldn't do on a controller. We have examples of pad users and stick users performing at a very high and equal level with regard to execution.

Say that about mouse input in console shooters. And where it was allowed, it was shown to be completely fucking unfair, with Quake III Arena.

But you know... Can we take this discussion elsewhere? This is the review thread. I'd love to further prove why XIM users are scum if you like.

I'd say it's still cheating manufactured by Sony.
Not conventionally cheating but post-conventionally.

I'm usually not one for false equivalence but... when you can literally buy cheats with microtransactions...

P.S. I don't want to have the conversation about how XIM != real mouse input.

You know what sucked about preordering on PSN.

That fucking theme! Freakin text on main UI was unfuking readable.

Thats all. Games gonna rock.

Played some more of the campaign this evening, it really is great. I'm so impressed, the tech test really put me off but I'm glad they listened to feedback about the movement as the design of the levels in the campaign is really great. The weapons also feel really visceral, and I love the dynamic between Cooper and BT. Honestly such a surprise.

Can't wait to dive into the MP when the servers go up :P

Is there any consequence between the dialogue options, or do they change nothing?

They don't seem to so far. They just change what dialogue you hear. My only gripe is that some of them are sort of one liners that don't go anywhere and allow you to press the other option after and some of them just progress things and it's not always clear which :P

Knocked out two stars on about 9 Frontier maps today to wrap up the last TF1 achievement. 2000/2000! Feels Goodman.

FD can actually be really entertaining with a good team. And I love how specific maps have different challenges. Like Rise, you only get two waves, one of which only has 2 spectres, but the second wave has like 240 enemies and is a nightmare.
