AMD CEO reveals next-gen Xbox could launch in 2027 — CEO says semi-custom SoC ready to 'support launch in 2027'

I'd imagine dev kits would need to be sent out more than 6 months before projected launch if they want to have games for the thing ready by launch, whether new or updates to older games.

We need K KeplerL2 thoughts on this. Can a early 2026 tapeout = a early 2027 launch date?

We already know Navi 5 won't be ready until late 2027.

Not dismay... but looking how MS is treating this division, this last xbox IF released, will have surface levels of importance to the market (and they have only themselves to blame!)

I can only care about myself as a consumer. And the idea of a powerful, small form factor PC/Xbox hybrid that can play pretty much everything aside from Nintendo exclusives is quite appealing.

Also, full PC VR support

Day 1.
With PS6 getting delayed until 2028/29, Xbox will get a HUGE next gen advantage
My boy Phil does it again.

At this point, does it even matter what Xbox puts out? They have de facto lost their "console baseline" status. They could put out a supercomputer and the next playstation would still dictate what games are designed to run on.
So whatever they release in the end, it will be just another gadget among many.

I hope that SOC is a real retail thing that lets you build your own Xbox. That would be pretty neat. It might do very well if it's cpu/gpu/ram all in one.

Part of this is that they are going to add a console-like mode to Windows that any PC could use. Only PC games though and not any Series ones.

Not wrong. The Steam machine is too weak, and this looks like what everyone wanted the Steam machine to be. Not being locked to one storefront is also a huge bonus.

There were really no expectations for a Steam Machine to even exist. Steam Machine is not locked to one store front. And we don't know prices of any of this stuff so "too weak" doesn't mean much at this point.

There are plenty of next-gen accelerators using GDDR7
Yeah, the key operator there being accelerators. You can get much better margins serving data center.
Unless of course Microsoft leveraged their DC procurement to the benefit of Xbox and overpaid for a consistent supply.

is it just me or is the next xbox more of a steambox competitor than playstation?
More like Steam machine competitor but it might be more expensive than Steam machine. I will not be shock if MS will launch Xbox hybrid on 2027, because xbox series x/s are so badly beaten througout the years and last years numbers was nail to the coffin. This might be there last card or MS will comeback to being a third party game developer and publisher.

Now the question is, will it be just like Asus rog ally x, where different companies will each build different version of xbox hybrid? Maybe a Dell xbox, or Asus xbox?

It's possible, if the plan is to release it in Q4 2027.

And unlike PlayStation, Microsoft doesn't have to worry about the Osborne Effect since Xbox Series sales have fallen off a cliff anyway.

A 2026 announcement would also keep some buyers away from the Steam Machine in holiday 2026.

This Xbox PC hybrid should have come out four months ago. That would have been the right moment now Xbox Series S/X sales are cratering and it's time for a hail mary/last hurrah from MS to spur new interest in Xbox. It could even have been reasonably affordable since manufacturing would have already begun before the RAM crisis reared its ugly head.

But in Q4 2027 the Xbox brand will be dead and buried. If Xbox only sold 1.5-2 million consoles in 2025, just imagine the state of Xbox in 2027. Xbox on PC arrives far, far too late to change anything. In fact, there's nothing stopping other companies from releasing their own clones if MS makes a new Windows available with the "Xbox on PC" enhancements. The difference will be that those 3rd party clones won't have built-in Xbox One/Series hw compatibility, but how much of a selling point is this to people who just want a cheap "PC in a box" and don't care about Xbox?

Are you saying 2026?
So they announced Series Consoles as Project Scarlett in June showcase 2019, then reveal of X console in December 2019 at the Awards, 11 months before launch in November 2020. So they could detail Project Magnus this June showcase, full reveal for November 15th which is Xbox 25th Anniversary, then launch November 2027.
Its AT2 plus custom CPU chiplet.

AT2 will be RDNA 5 replacement of RX 9070XT.
AT2 but with 70 CUs and two disabled to 68 rather than 72. The discrete GPUs should maybe have 72?

If the 5 GPU dies follow the pattern, 24, 48, 72, 96, 192.

It could possibly be binned AT2 for yields, but if that's true, it would be 72 minus 4, not 70 minus 2. It doesn't make sense to tape out a different die just for Magnus. It defeats the entire purpose of using AT2 in Magnus, making AT2 much more ubiquitous.

They should have launch this xbox hybrid along with Asus rog ally x. Now it will go head to head with Steam machine which is also a pc hybrid.

Well There It Is Jurassic Park GIF

Ladies and gentlemen, this is coming from someone who mentions Xbox every single day and in every thread, even though it's supposedly dead, more than any other console brand. 🙇🤷🤷

Anyway, is a "tell me you're suffering and furious about some news, without actually telling me you're suffering and furious about some news..."

Great contribution 👍😉

I blame the alcohol for M MisterXDTV posts.

Not the stuff he drunk, but the copious amounts his mother did when she was pregnant.

Not gonna happen. Believe lot of the console manufacturers and hell even the ones that just make pc handhelds are gonna lay back until this memory boom crap comes back down. I don't blame on buying anything new or even a upgrade gpu anytime soon

Launch a new console in this economy? At how much? With what exclusives? Who is going to buy an xbox then?

If gamers are already crying that the ps6 should be delayed, xbox sales are cratering, no must have games on the horizon for 2027, why would anyone buy it?

You don't need a dev kit for a pc. Either it's a console with a dev kit or it's a pc. So, we shouldn't worry about dev kits if it's a pc.

SoC being ready for design and production means nothing for when a product using the SoC will actually launch.
The most recent egregious example is Switch2 with it's SoC being ready circa 2019 and the system launching in 2025.

Specially if you can install SteamOS in this thing and abandon whatever horrible W11 split this thing uses.

If true that'd be the only part where Sony hasn't cheapen out for what we've heard it's leaked.
MIllions will care.
I'll have you know that I've saved this message, Deckard.

I'm more interested in how major publishers like R* react to Magnus cause other than that it's just a piece of plastic box and we've seen many of them.
