Well, until we know everything, it's difficult to make predictions and have an assessment. It's just as inappropriate to take one extreme as the other.
Personally, I've always had (and still have) a feeling that this new Xbox will be closer to a traditional console than people are starting to assume it will be.
Being able to play games from the Steam Store and Epic Store doesn't necessarily mean you can acquire/buy them from this new Xbox... It could just mean loading and recognizing them, for example. Or apps.
The question is how much effort Microsoft will put into getting people to buy games from the Xbox Store rather than the Steam and Epic Stores. The ease of access to games on Steam versus the Xbox Store. Certainly, a mandatory GamesPass subscription won't be a good idea if that version doesn't include improvements and special features compared to the Steam or Epic versions...
