Resident Evil Requiem has sold 5 million copies

The original games from the 90s ( 1-3 and Code Veronica) had a good mix of survival horror and action, the latter got ramped up in a major way with RE4 ( originally a Gamecube exclusive that infamously has been ported to every system known to man since), continued with 5, until they jumped the shark with 6. Which forced them to return more to their horror roots with 7 and 8. I'd start with those if you're more into Grace's gameplay.

But I must say, RE2 and RE4( both the OG and the recent remakes) are GOAT level games into, but they also star Leo( 2 also has Claire Redfield as a completely separate playthrough).
7 and 8, got it. I'll keep those in mind, thanks.

Also do note FWIW that 7 is first person only. 8 launched the same then added a third person mode later. Get the 'Gold' editions, commonly on sale, which have lots of side stories and modes supplementing the main story mode.

I got got. This is the first full price game I have bought in 2 generations. I bought a PS5 Pro just for this game and picked up the Digital Deluxe version of RE9 for around $1300 Canadian total and have about 4 hours in to it so far. So far seems great, not my favorite RE but still great. Also bought the RE Generation Pack physical bundle for Switch 2 to put on my shelf and that was $135. So I guess I got got 2 times on the same game and I'm almost $1500 deep just to play this one game.

I already had a standard PS5 but I wanted to see the new PSSR2 first hand. The old PS5 is in its box waiting for the used market rush around the time GTA6 comes out later this year.

Deserved. Fucking great entry.

Bit off topic, but... from the wiki;

"Resident Evil Requiem received "universal acclaim" from critics for most platforms, except for the PlayStation 5 version which received "generally favorable" reviews, according to review aggregator website Metacritic."

Literally the best performing console version, and doesn't have stuttering like the PC version. Bit weird.
Stuttering? I haven't seen it on my end. Has this been an issue?

Japanese devs should fucking stop locking difficulty modes behind completition, it's retarded to not have all difficulty modes or at least an hard mode unlocked for the first run, the game is indeed pretty easy after the first 2-3 hours.
100%. Meanwhile, the woke west that wants to coddle their players and not hurt their feelings is, ironically, going the opposite direction. Lethal difficulty on Yotei? Available from the get go. Grounded mode on tlou part 2? Go for it at your own risk! But this is going backwards in japan? Very puzzling.. Even From is making their games more approachable. I'm still shit at them, but I wonder if this is a trend to appeal to a wider audience. I don't mind that as game costs are certainly rising and prospective buyers shouldn't feel alienated by the difficulty, but then make options available so everyone can find their sweet spot! I'm the one feeling alienated now :/

It's awesome how Silent Hill had the best game in 20 years last year and now it's Resident Evil's turn.

Survival Horror fans are eating good right now
Alan Wake 2, Silent Hill 2, Dead Space Remake, Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil Requiem all belong to the same high tier category of Next-Gen horrorgames imho.

Leon prints money!

I just rolled credits for the first time yesterday and I already want to dive in for another go. As much as I enjoyed 7 and Village, I didn't feel compelled to go back and play through them again. I think I just connect better with games in the series that put me in the shoes of the old guard (STARS members).

Finished it sunday, fantastic game. Hope psvr2 version is in works
So, I haven't played Res8 or 4 in VR yet -- how does it work in cut scenes? Can you look around, or is the camera static during that?

I only ask because one of the cut scenes in this one would be ruined if you could look around during what's going on. It would have to be static. (I'm not that far in, either.)

I can't think of any excuse other than artificially prolonging the life of their games.
What jap devs don't understand is that for the majority of people, the first run is the most significant and the only one they are gonna do (for the low percentage that even complete games once).

And their excuse is "hard mode is not meant to be played without an upgraded character"...motherfucker if i want to die 500 times in a game is my damn choice, not yours, especially when your normal mode is a cakewalk for anyone with at least 6 working fingers...

I don't wanna have my hard mode on my third run where i already know everything and i just go through the motion to get a stupid throphy, i want hard mode in my first, most enjoyed and probably only run i'm gonna do with the game, no one is gonna convince me that your 4th run is as good as the first one where you see the game and everything it has to offer for the first time, sorry i don't fucking buy it.

And yes, as much as people shit on the west, at least they give me my ultra hard mode or give the god of war mode for the first run.

It is an actual great game. You already know your opinion is rare af so coming in here and claiming it isn't great because of your unpopular opinion serves only to shit up the thread. Just seems attention seeking. Especially when you come back saying 8 is better. Seems like you just want to be a contrarian.

Dude, can't we just debate instead of judging me and my motives? Have you seen me have the habit of shitting up threads? I'm usually defending games and its makers. Not the other way around. Is this place some exclusionary circle jerk where a rare as fuck opinion is not allowed? I'm not the only one in the world that thinks 8 is better. Though obviously 8 is not the best. It's ok if we disagree and don't align on some games. I know for a fact that there are other games that we both love. Being contrarian involves arguing for the heck of it just to rile people up. Saying "I didn't like this and am sad to see things I actually like not doing so well commercially" isn't being contrarian. It's all subjective opinion.

For the games I've played so far:

RE2R & RE4R > RE7 > RE8 > RE3R > RE9

You see why I'm so frustrated? Because the general consensus was this game is the best of RE2 and RE4. My top games! And when it's not hitting the right notes for me, my reaction is harsh.

I did not play RE before RE7, so I have no nostalgia to the franchise. Just rating them based on how the new ones resonated with me. That's all

8 is better, in fact i downloaded Village before even finishing 9 as i had the urge to play it. 4 And 2 remake doesnt even come into the equasion. In fact it will be very interesting to see opinion on this game over the coming years.

For me out of the recent RE games -

4 Remake
Village
2 Remake
9/7 cant split them
3 Remake

Would love to play it but i'm not the biggest Horror games fan, i get scared easily. But the game looks fantastic.
Question to people who played it, is it scarier than RE4? Because that was alright scarewise
The beginning section is scarier than RE4 but after that its fine. I would maybe check out the pre-release footage to see if its okay with you. That is the scariest section and the one they showcased before the game came out

RE8VR cutscenes allowed you to look around because it's a first person game so it was appropriate for VR. But RE4VR is a third-person game so the cutscenes played on a 2D screen in front of you.

If they ever make a 9VR they could do technically take both approaches since Grace's playthrough is first person... but I'd expect them to take the 4VR approach because it's easier.

Resident Evil and Capcom being used as an example that GaaS is bad, is laughable.

Capcom is one of the most experienced developers in the industry, and Resident Evil is one of the most iconic gaming franchises in history.

Capcom's success doesn't magically mean other developers are safe, from the realities of the business.

90% of single player games on Steam don't make profit, you just don't hear about them.
Because unlike GaaS or online only games even SP games do commercially fail you can still play it and enjoy it….meanwhile when GaaS games do fail you also lose the access to play them.

I don't think companies really like that people get to keep their digital products.

If Cloud gaming is the future, you will no longer own anything but rather, rent.

😁

I ordered a copy before release and it still hasn't shipped. I wonder if it sold out.

I got a digital copy of RE 7 to hold me over while waiting. I beat it in 2 days. The game scared me quite a bit but it was gripping and I felt compelled to quickly finish it.

Great to see Capcom being rewarded for doing things right. Sometimes it feels like they're one of the only guys who are.

Look forward to playing this one, but I'm still making my way through the rest of the series and don't want to skip ahead.

That was not my point. Online only games depend on other people to function while SP games don't.

Even if SP game is digital only that doesn't mean you suddenly lose ability to play it just because it didn't sell well.

Is the thirst for Leon really that strong? Holy shit. I mean I figured it'd sell well, but not 5 mil in less than a week.

Played 8/4r in vr. Cutscenes are static, both in engine and prerendered

Now give us Re9 PSVR2 support you cowards. :messenger_face_steam:
Sony paid for 4 and 8 VR versions but they've essentially given up on PSVR2 so I doubt it'll happen unless Capcom actually takes it upon themselves. Would be nice if they did it themselves because that would mean the VR wouldn't be exclusive to PS5...

Im a bit dissapointed because Steam, according to trackers, has sold 2.18 million units so pc is not even 50 percent. I guess RE still sells the highest on Playstation?

Well trackers are not official numbers, and unless the game sold next to nothing on Xbox and Switch 2, PC has PROBABLY sold the most.

Well most PlayStation owners grow up playing RE games on PS1& PS2.

This game is around 50/50 split between being actiony like 4 remake and being a horror game, but it's not as horror oriented as say RE7, so if you're interested enough you may just have to roll the dice on if it's for you.

Jesus that's insane. I wonder what's the cause for that quantum leap in sales, beyond just word of mouth for how great it is.
It's most likely cause 4 remake brought in alot of new fans, for a lot of people I'm sure they've heard 4 original be a game that's been talked up for years so remake was the chance to play it and I bet it was alot of people's first RE game because of that.

I liked the game. I did feel somwhat disappointed it's not more interactive. So much details and you don't do anything with it. The walls don't break, the chairs won't break, the world is kidna lifeless.

Overall nice tho.

Huh?

It's better than I was expecting and I was expecting a very good game. Happy for Capcom.

Now let's see how Onimoosher turns out. MH Stories 3 should also be very good. MH Stories 2 was underrated and this seems like a huge upgrade.

With sales like this, I'd say that Deadpool and Wolverine meme is quite accurate - Leon will likely be doing this shit until he is 90.
