Sony hikes up PS5 pricing in April: PS5 – $649.99, PS5 Digital Edition – $599.99 PS5 Pro – $899.99, Portal $249.99

Americans now paying the price Canadians have been paying all gen long. Chaos ensues.
Why do so many get this wrong? THE CURRENCIES ARE NOT EQUAL.

For fuck sake. 1250 CAD is equal to roughly 900 USD.

"Canadians have been paying more for years!"
No, you haven't.

That's exactly what it is, they are out to make a profit so extra costs are passed to the consumers so they can continue making a profit. Not exactly a novel concept, this is how the economy operates. As much as I would like them to be a charity and eat all the costs, it's unrealistic to expect them to do so especially when living under such uncertain and unprecedented conditions. It boggles my mind how People can attribute changes in electronic prices to just greed, it's like they haven't watched the news in months or haven't been to a grocery store to see how even basic necessities have skyrocketed in price.
My point was they are justified in raising the price and people are justified in telling them to fuck off. They don't get a free pass from criticism simply because of world economic affairs.

Anyone who spent $399 in 2020 now owns a piece of kit that's almost 100% more in value.

2020 consoles are aging like 70's Mustang's.
It would have been insane enough if it the console had kept its original price still, but the fact that the price is increasing is just bonkers.

Debating on a ps5 pro but for that kind of money for a minor upgrade over base ps5...I dunno. If I knew for sure the ps6 was delayed for 3-5 years.

That's so cruel, now I get why it's censored in so many games, omg.

But on topic, pretty sad to up the price of more or less outdated hardware cept for memories and storages. Of course they may hope GTA6 will drive demand as well, but awful nonetheless.

This is crazy. I'm glad I got my ps5 Pro at launch. $900? No way. Neither the PS5 base for $600 and $650. I'm gonna hold on my PS5 Pro for a while now. The PS6 will be $1000 or more. Damn... 6yr old hardware getting price increases.

really debating on getting a pro... gamestop has a $350 deal for a base ps5 and pro at $749 for a couple of days.

In the future, hardware technology going down in price will be at the same level of "myth" as my grandfather telling me about working as a part-time house painter in the 50s and only needing to work two summers to afford a 4-year college degree. Everything runs its course eventually. It was really cool to see consoles (and PC hardware) become so widespread for normal people to use for as long as it did. It was special

At this point the smartest thing that Rockstar and Sony can do to push the PS6 sales, is making GTA6 a cross gen title and launch the game with the PS6 in 2027. And launch the PS6 at $699.

Sony GAF has repeatedly assured me this will sell more than the PS4. How are they holding up right now?

Surely they will keep winning the NPD right Sony fans ? Them selling more the past few months surely had nothing to do with the Black Friday bundles being available through March.
People told you that in relation to a wildly different market environment. Don't play retarded.

Sigh...

You ignorant or something? Or just refuse to see what is obviously going on in the industry/world?

This is no charity you prick. And companies don't need reason to increase the prices. They can do and they always have being doing this whatever they want.

I feel like some of you are completely blind to the world around you and what's been happening.

New prices
  • PS5 – £569.99
  • PS5 Digital Edition – £519.99
You can buy the digital edition for £399 and disc version for £449 right now. Th RRP for the digital is £430 and £480 for disc version.

I bet the new price relaxes to £480-490 for digital and £530 for disc.

Even so that's a huge price increase. I guess they want to get the GTA6 rush but cost of parts is going up and can only stay low for so long.

If anyone is military/vet you can buy a PS5 Pro at shopmyexchange.com for $729 no tax right now.

I knew another jump was coming but I really didn't expect the Pro to jump by $150. Holy shit. All devices with computers/RAM/storage are going to end up this way so get them while you can. Gaming laptops, Switch 2...everything.

If we're doing 1 : 1 comparisons, god bless the Japanese for spending over one hundred thousand of their currency, lol.

They're a tech company. They've always been business scumbags, along with Microsoft and Nintendo. Some just fail to look through their rose tinted glasses.
I know. But they've had their ups and downs, the mid-tail end of PS3 and early days of PS4 they were fantastic after their not so great PS3 launch as an example.

But at least even back then they had things like the greatest hits, but they're even taking the Nintendo route with first party games and keeping them full price years later.

None of these companies care about you or your wallet.

I seriously can't wait for the inevitable crash coming. It'll give me time to hit my 100+ game backlog.

LOL @ the Playstation Portal price. The 6GB LPDDR4x inside of it cost around 15-20$
They must be seeing high profit margin and an in addition to increased demand because of the new updates (ps5 game streaming through wifi of your owned library vs having to be a remote play device), they prob see it as a good biz move.

No they weren't. The Canadian dollar is weaker lol. That's why Canadians were paying more lmao.

When you're in a store in Canada, paying in Canadian dollars, the U.S. dollar is irrelevant. The only currency that matters is the one you're actually paying in.

You think people spend $1100 CAD and think, "I only paid $850 USD!" That's not how people operate. They paid $1100. Full stop.

You walk into a store, see a price of $1150, and that's the only number that matters. The US dollar doesnt mean shit when you are living in another country.
People don't care WHY another currency is stronger or weaker; they care about what they actually have to pay.

So yes, mentally, Americans are now paying what we've been paying all gen.

If you have a good tv there's no reason not to, especially after the PSSR2 Update. Especially if you're going to keep it for a few years.

This is probably the dumbest post ever written

By that reckoning a Japanese should kill himself because the raw number is 10000

i guess sony has to reduce their ps5 sales target for these few years, and it will be even hard to sell a ps6 (although its day 1 for me probably).
