Ok, let's say. How much will it cost with this RDNA5 architecture? I'm guessing $8-900, with profit.CPU/GPU architecture dictates what is a PS6.
This is not an entry level or base pricing product...

More like $549-$599. And if Sony does a TV box version of Canis, without the screen and battery, could be $499. It doesn't use GDDR7 ram btw.Ok, let's say. How much will it cost with this RDNA5 architecture? I'm guessing $8-900, with profit.

Ever heard of Ockham's razor? This shit is unheard of. I guarantee you they have contracts with all the individual component manufacturers that sets prices, they are blaming shortages, bullshit. This is a hike because they want to hike.
AMD could theoretically take the 3nm wafer capacity and use it in other products but I'm not sure the demand is high enough since most of their flagship datacenter stuff is actually on 2nm. So there would probably be some penalty that Sony would have to pay, and wafer prices for a 2028/2029 launch would be even higher.
The only reason for a delay would be hoping for a RAM/NAND price collapse, but as I said before no one knows if/when/by how much prices will come down. So a delay is a bit of a gamble and the safe strategy is actually to launch in 2027 as planned.
$500 for a 4TF turd. Absolutely nonsense.More like $549-$599. And if Sony does a TV box version of Canis, without the screen and battery, could be $499. It doesn't use GDDR7 ram btw.
Man, the base Xbox Ally with RDNA2 costs $600. Period... Wake up...More like $549-$599. And if Sony does a TV box version of Canis, without the screen and battery, could be $499. It doesn't use GDDR7 ram btw.
Those devices not only are not subsidized, but they're also designed to make a ton of profit in mind. Asus, and other OEM companies, have no software to back it up.Man, the base Xbox Ally with RDNA2 costs $600. Period... Wake up...
Agreed, corps like Sony don't do things without planning, and I commented earlier in this thread that increasing the price now will make the PS6 seem better value in comparison. GTA6 is the issue though as they'll be expecting a bump from that and this increase won't help. It's pretty clear Sony knows this will have an impact on sales and that is why I'm 100% convinced they will slow production down drastically for PS5 this year and will prioritize a 2027 release for PS6. Essentially, all hands on deck.
If a delay for PS6 release was happening then they wouldn't raise the PS5 prices so significantly if they had to rely on PS5 sales for the next couple of years.
Depending on the clocks, should be over 5 Teraflops and closer to 6 Teraflops GPU compute. But the AI upscaling kicks in when needed. It's the 24 GB LPDDR5X RAM that will be majority of the Bill of Materials. Unless Sony goes with 18 GB.$500 for a 4TF turd. Absolutely nonsense.
And it's often on sale for $489. Plus 20% OEM profit margins. Sony also has economy of scale in selling millions more units. Next gen Xbox Ally Base model would likely have 12 CU RDNA5 vs 16 in Canis.Man, the base Xbox Ally with RDNA2 costs $600. Period... Wake up...
OEM profit margins are usually 20-25%.Those devices not only are not subsidized, but they're also designed to make a ton of profit in mind. Asus, and other OEM companies, have no software to back it up.
While I don't think Canis would be $500... just wanted to point out that this is not how value is measured.$500 for a 4TF turd. Absolutely nonsense.
Well this theoretical $500 unit is headless with no display or battery apparently. While I don't think Canis would be $500... just wanted to point out that this is not how value is measured.
So would we pay $500 for a 4TF turd? What if in that product category, its competition costs %600? $700? or hell, $1000.
Bet that $500 starts looking like a bargain.
Not true, albeit your generalization is a flawed one to begin with, but I'll indulge you. The PS5 base price was the same as the PS4 base price. And technically, cheaper if you factor in inflation... so there goes your theory right there.Sony is not selling PS6 for less or same as PS5 or Pro. It'll be more. Why would they sell PS6 for less than last gen?
No differernt than other gens. The new product is better and sells for more than the last gen product. And the way chip prices are, no consoles are going to getting those juicy 50% off bargain binning like way back. I remember seeing PS4 and Xbox One for $200. And even crazier were older gens you'd get them for $100 when the new systems would be coming out. PS2 was crazy. I remember seeing their last slim model for $79.
Best hope for pricing is chips get cheaper and PS5 (with drive) gets back to $500. Pro goes back down too to $700. Then PS6 is $900-1000.
If prices dont come down, PS6 is $1,000+ easy if Pro is already at $900 US.
They haven't gone up every gen.Sony is not selling PS6 for less or same as PS5 or Pro. It'll be more. Why would they sell PS6 for less than last gen?

Sorry what?Well this theoretical $500 unit is headless with no display or battery apparently.
Is that meant to be compelling versus a 10TF PS5 from this generation?
Remember the Pro doesn't come with the disc drive, you have to buy it separatelyHmmm wondering if I should trade in my og ps5 with disc drive so I'm still good if something happens to my pro anni....
This is wrong, and they continued to report losses in hardware (in non-discount periods) all the way to 2024.Remember Sony already didn't take a loss in 2020 when PS5 released.
Console makers realized starting I think the PS4/X1 gen they dont need to subsidize or bargain bin consoles. They are happy capping their unit growth for sake of being profitable faster. No more of those -$200 subsidy things to give gamers a break and make it back on software. This is BAD. The Pro is now a $1000 console with disc drive. Absolute insanity and I'm perplexed Sony isn't willing to take a small hit on consoles in order to keep the generation going strong console sales wise.
Remember Sony already didn't take a loss in 2020 when PS5 released. The first gen in history to do that! The reprocussions of this are going to affect console gaming for many years into the future in a VARIETY of ways- from consumer confidence in console gaming, to release dates for next gen, to what kind of meaningful power increases we can expect to PRICE, to how long the CROSS GEN period will go on for ....
Somethings got to give. While many factors haven't been in Sony and MS' cobtrol this gen, both companies have also made so many epicly bad decisions mostly born out of greed that console gaming has been affected so negatively. A perfect storm of economic factors and out of touch greedy CEOs.
These scumbags can't give anybody a break on prices to maintain the smallest amount of good will towards the gamers who've made them. They're still even charging for things like the ability to play online multiplayer games! The whole gen we've been nickel and dimed to death and now this.
If we were talking about a few percent here and there, yes...I can see why people could think that way.
It's also happening across multiple fronts at the same time. Different BoM items are being affected simultaneously, and companies across the board are reevaluating their pricing. If we were talking about a few percent here and there, yes...
But we are taking about several hundred percent increases. Anyone who ever thought Sony would just eat that is a total moron.
I think some people still think console makers will eat big subsidies for gamers to get everyone back to the magical $400 threshold. Prices have edged up for generations $100 here or there and not much has happened. PS systems still selling a ton.If we were talking about a few percent here and there, yes...

They were over because it made no sense anymore when PS4 and PS5 just needed a $50 loss in order to hit an affordable price. PS6 will be different. The days of $300-$400 subsidies like the PS3... yeah those are over.

Think the wider question we should be asking is.. what choice did they have and why are RAM and Storage in such short supply. (AI is the answer).Lmao. Greedy prices from a greedy company.
Go on fanboys, defend this move.
Yeah, I think it's only a matter of time. Or maybe, we'll see a large contraction instead. Ballooning budgets, more layoffs, AI.. most B-tier games and studios will closeDo we actually think the video game market will crash? Serious question as well.
It's not going to be, they're not going to secure enough memory to sustain both platforms at the same time. That's why I've been saying that the plan was to continue selling the PS5 alongside the PS6.
Plan B would be to rush out a PS6 "Series S".
Yup.That's why I've been saying that the plan was to continue selling the PS5 alongside the PS6.

The moment a PS6 is released, PS5 perceived value plummets
I was so luck to buy a PC last August.Terrible times to love games
If there isn't a RAM/NAND price collapse, do you have a guess how much the PS6 will cost in 2027?AMD could theoretically take the 3nm wafer capacity and use it in other products but I'm not sure the demand is high enough since most of their flagship datacenter stuff is actually on 2nm. 8 million units with data as of December 31, 2025. Probably around 5-6M when taking into account what sales will look like as of March 31, 2026.Worst gen ever...
Paying more and getting less
Completely ass backwards
How much it needs to reach 100M consoles sold because with these prices...
