Totally doing this!

No books yet, but I did watch Contagion yesterday. Pretty decent movie, interesting concept, and the music was pretty good!

I really need some books to read. I'm a fan of myster/thriller/sci-fi stuff, but I haven't really made an attempt to look for anything interesting lately.

Shakespeare in Love was pretty good, but I don't know if it's necessarily Best Picture Oscar material. I knew it won Best Picture going in, but I was surprised to learn that Gwyneth Paltrow won Best Actress and that Judy Dench won Best Supporting Actress. Neither had standout performances, so I'm a little boggled as to why they won.

This is perhaps the worst year for me to do this but I'll give it a go anyway. I easily did 50 films last year but I'm not so sure this year.

Watched:

The Young Victoria

I'm sure I've watched more since Tuesday but The Young Victoria is all I remember and that's because I watched it tonight :/

Books

1.- The Dandelion Wine - Ray Bradbury

It remembers all the movies of "children adventures in a small town of America" that plays on the tv. It's a new view of Bradbury for me, first non sciencie fiction book of him that I read, I liked, but it's not the best of him.

Movies
...

Next one: Ana Karenina - Leon Tolstoi

Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World

3 Idiots - A really great Bollywood movie. Great cast and great writing. I can see Hollywood remaking this sometime in the future.

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower - Finished reading the book and essentially went and watched the movie. The cast really surprised me, they each brought their characters to life. Excellent adaptation.

Tiny Furniture - basically the spiritual ancestor to HBO's Girls. There isn't really a plot, but I like Lena Dunham's writing, and I thought it was a good film overall.

Arabian Nights is basically a softcore porn film with an Arabian setting made in the 1970s. It was fucking abysmal and I actually contemplated leaving it off this list because I wasn't sure I wanted to even admit that I watched it. In the end, I decided to take the bullet so no one else would have to. Just to reiterate, the movie is horrible; poorly acted, incoherent, grainy as fuck, and the "porn" aspect is just terrible.

And that guy's teeth will haunt me forever.

It'd be fun to see if I could hit the 50 movie mark.

Books are a no go though. I read 1 book last year (flowers for algernon) and it was the first book I read since Steven King's Cell came out. My goal this year is to double last year's output : p

So I've finally been reading my trade paperbacks that I got of Ex Machina a while back. I've read the first two volumes (about 130 pages each). Should I count each of these volumes as one book or all 10 trades as one?

Same thing with Saga. It's an ongoing series so how should that be counted? Technically only the first volume is out right now.

This is coming from someone who doesn't read comics either. I decided to start back in 09 so I purchased a ton of trades, but never really got around to reading anything but Buffy and this thing has motivated me.

Have a bunch of books that'll hopefully be added soon.

Tomorrow, When the War Began

Tomorrow, When the War Began - I really REALLY liked this movie. I do not understand how it was not promoted beyond Australia. It's a lot like Red Dawn, but I really liked the characters. I highly recommend watching it if you have Netflix, really good film and it sounds like a sequel is getting made.

I heard its based on a book series so time to look those up =)

  • Looper -- 7/10. Time travel movies really screw with my mind, but this one was enjoyable and well thought out. It was a bit over the top for me, plot-wise. Kudos to Bruce Willis and JGL, who I think is the best young actor working today.
  • Indie Game: The Movie -- 8/10
  • The Queen of Versailles -- 6/10

Closing in on book #2.

I'll give this a try. I have a few movies sitting around that I plan on watching soon, and I really, really need to get back into reading regularly.

Django was such a good movie. I can't believe how many N-words were in it. I know that it was right before the Civil War, but still it was surprising. I loved all of the actors and especially thought that Sam Jackson did a great job.
