I don't know how many of you watched the Bama-Mississippi game and remember the fatman 75 yard pick 6 by our lineman Jonathan Allen (well, former pick 6, it's now been turned into a strip sack and a fumble) (video here: http://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/09/alabama-big-jonathan-allen-interception-return-75-yards). Mississippi had a receiver that chased him down and almost tackled him short of the endzone while his convoy of blockers were not paying any attention behind him. Turns out that Allen used Mississippi's new endzone score board against them:

So advantage to Alabama and all other schools without giant-ass endzone TVs. Mississippi might have stripped the ball from Allen and saved a TD if not for their desire to keep with the Joneses of the world.

I saw that live, and other than LMAO, I was thinking, "Well, at least he protected the ball well."

Between Payne's stretch-TD and Allen's Pick-6, the D-Line made it look like they do that all the time.

Nah they'll win six at least. Too much talent.

Will they? They probably lose this week and they aren't beating UW. That's 4 losses already. UCLA and ND are both likely losses but with rivalry games you never know. Oh and they play Oregon, so yeah.

They have a softer slate coming up with the Arizona schools, Colorado and Cal but none of those teams looks like pushovers, especially for a team as offensively challenged as USC.

Oregon is pretty banged up right now. I could see them beating the Ducks and the rest of the South outside UCLA, plus possible rivalry game wins. Bruins and ND don't look like world beaters either.

I guess it's not a lock but I'd still be surprised if they didn't make a bowl game.

I'm just scared because it seems like everytime we're ranked, something bad happens.

Can we just like, pretend to not be ranked? We're not going to the playoffs even if we win out, anyway <_< Most predictions have us going to the Rose Bowl.
What!? If 3-0 Nebraska wins out (including the conference championship,) there's no way you'd be left out of the playoff. You'd have wins against at least 4 ranked opponents, zero loses, and, of course, the championship of a power conference. Hell, look at Iowa last year, had we won the B1G with a worse schedule, most pundits had us in.

Rumors circulating about more chaos at USC. Clay Helton getting punched in the face by a player, if true, is crazy.

http://www.theleadsports.com/stories/did-usc-o-lineman-ej-price-punch-coach-clay-helton-in-the-face/

And by fishy we mean that freshman OG EJ Price may have punched coach Clay Helton in the face, precipitating a possible mass exodus of transfers from the school. Rumored to be among those considering a transfer are OL Chuma Edoga, recently demoted QB Max Browne, and WR/CB Keyshawn Pie Young. CB Adoree Jackson and WR JuJu Smith are also widely expected to declare for the NFL draft as soon as the season is over.

The only way an undefeated P5 conference champion gets left out is if there are 5 undefeated P5 conference champions.

Looks like EJ Price should have gone to UGA like he was expected to. We sure could use some talent on OL right now . Edoga was also a GA kid. Come on down!

The only way an undefeated P5 conference champion gets left out is if there are 5 undefeated P5 conference champions.
And who are the P5 undefeateds left?

ACC: Clemson, GA Tech, Louisville, Miami, Wake
B12-2: Baylor, WV
B1G: Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, MSU, Minnie, Nebraska, OSU, Wiscy
Pac-12: AZ St, Stanford, Utah, Washington
SEC: Alabama, Arky, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, TAM

What possible combination of undefeated non-B1G schools locks out Nebraska? Any undefeated SEC school is getting in, same with an undefeated Pac-12 team. Undefeated Clemson gets in sure, but Nebraska probably ends with a better resume then the rest of the ACC contenders. Big 12-2? I think undefeated Baylor gets snubbed if for nothing else, off-field issues (assuming all 5 P5 conference have an undefeated team,) and WV isn't a threat.

I would guess that with five undefeated conference champs, the Big 12 gets left out.
Nah, with the "top" schools doing poorly, they'll be hurt worse. Nebraska could beat a 12-0/11-1 east champ and look great.

Edit: just realized I read your post wrong. We agree. This while conference name =/= # of teams needs to end.

TBH, I'd almost rather be an tOSU/Browns fan than a Giants/Rutgers fan at this point. 2008 and 2012 were great great years though.
Truly a tale of two fandoms

Harbs was on Dan Patrick today, for some reason Dan said something about Urban drinking 1% milk and harbs responded by saying:

"we refuse to drink the candy-ass skim milk or the 1 percent. we won't have any of that"

WTF is going on lol
Jim pls

Will Clay Helton make it to USC's bowl game?
Do they make it to a bowl game?

Baylor is gonna need some really really good injury luck if they want to go undefeated. They're probably not even good enough now to go undefeated based on how their offense has looked the first 3 weeks. WVU has a higher chance of going undefeated.

Nebraska won't go undefeated with its issues on the OL/DL. But if it did, there's almost no chance it could get locked out from the playoff with wins over Ohio State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Oregon and the B1G East champ. (Red Kool Aid is strong after beating Oregon, but the Ducks had 4 freshman OL playing most of the game, and a disastrous front 7 on defense... they're good, but they can't really expose Nebraska's weaknesses)

I think the stretch goal for the Huskers right now is the Rose Bowl.

Are people really saying Jabrill isn't all that because he ain't got an INT yet? Dude seems to fly the fuck outta nowhere to stop a play dead in it's tracks before it can go for more, in the NFL he's probably gonna be a linebacker and someone will make good use of him.

No I'm saying he's not a great player because he's not. Watch the tape, he's over hyped because he hits hard and is a novelty due to being a two way player. The ultimate goal post moving athletes. "Oh he's a safety"
Cool with 0 career ints, and 10 career pass deflections.

"Well he's actually a linebacker" those career 59 tackles though...glad he could record his first career sack this season

You know what jabrill peppers is? He's a guy they put into blitz from the nickel spot because he's a pass coverage liability. He's a guy who will make his money fielding punts

The fact that his name and heisman are coming together in a single sentence is a joke.

Be mad over a player who is gonna be a beast brehs

Be mad over a hybrid player who has room to improve but is just an enigma at the college level brehs

Stay mad at someone who has only played one full damn season brehs

Im not mad, I dont get the hype

The same reason a lot of uber athletic players get hyped to the moon, the potential he has to be something good. Something more than a third down rusher. Something more than a special teams specialist. He has played one full year and showed that he has hella talent. In this second season he is even better, there is no doubt that in the right circumstances, Jabrill Peppers will be good in the pros.

He's about 30 pounds light to be an inside linebacker in the NFL and about 25 pounds too light for an NFL outside linebacker, plus not having played that in college would be a problem. Too short too, most likely for outside linebacker.

He's a safety in the pros, I'd think. He's kind of a tweener.

That's the issue with him, I can describe him as the perfect Madden player. In real life he needs to have a set position, hopefully he puts on some more muscle and can find a position ate linebacker, or becomes better as a DB

He's only 15lbs lighter than Arizona $LB Deone Bucanon. Same height.

With the number of spread offenses in the NFL teams are playing more hybrid Safeties who can cover tight ends.

Price confirmed to be transferring due to homesickness.

Not confirmed to have punched his coach.

Also confirmed that USC had only 8 people on the field on multiple special teams plays versus Stanford.

This Helton guy really has it together.

hey, take a guy who can't play for a year, and takes up recruiting space for the future.

Not only that, but you've got to debug all the shitty coaching he got from USCw.

Sounds like a plan.

Homesickness would mean he goes to UGA (if he didn't hit Helton) and sits out a year, or he goes to a D2 school if he wants to play right away.

8 players on the field still blows my mind.

Don't forget the USC line had 6 false starts in the wine and cheese confines of Stanford stadium. You'd think a guy who coached OL 3 times in the SEC would do a better job.

USC's biggest issue is being obsessed with hiring alumns as ADs who aren't qualified and refusing to expand their pool of potential candidates. They hire people at the top who in turn make poor coaching hires. You need to branch out and grab the best talent, that goes for everyone and everything at USC, not just when recruiting players.

They've tried it in the past.

They made a run at Petersen but that didn't work out. USC is not like the other jobs in the Pac-12, they need to hire someone who can handle it. That's not to say they haven't blown it with their selections, but yeah.

I bet they back up the Brinks truck for Houston's coach.

Helton was supposed to represent a break away from hiring ex Pete Carroll guys and a break from hiring flashy, big names.

Turns out over paying a guy who has never been a head coach is a bad idea.

Pat Haden's legacy will be doing more damage to his Alma Mater than the NCAA did.

They've been inept at hiring head coaches for 20+ years. Pete Carroll was luck, not the result of good practice. He wasn't even their first choice.

Alabama had issues with this.

Didn't hire the guy Bear wanted to follow him (Steve Sloan)
Hired another Bear guy in Ray Perkins, who was average but wanted to depart from everything Bear did (and did so), and then left early to the NFL.
Some Georgia Tech guy, complete mistake
Gene Stallings, the one Bear guy who worked (but wasn't an Alabama guy, but a Texas A&M Bear guy)
Mike Dubose, a Bear guy who completely railroaded the program.

So ends the Bear Disciples at Alabama, though it was down to Sylvester Croom (Bear) and Mike Shula (Non-Bear Alabama). Not sure if either would be the correct choice, but Shula being weak at the right time, lead to Saban.

They hired a firm to help replace Haden and then ignored the firm and hired Lynn Swann.

It doesn't help that the administration isn't interested in being good at football.

Didn't the Browns have a firm put together a bunch of metrics that ended up telling them Teddy Bridgewater would be a quality NFL starter and they ignored it all?

I don't know who turned down who. Pete doesn't strike me as the type of guy that would be interested in the circus surrounding the USC program off the field, so it wouldn't surprise me if either party cut it off.

This is overrated imo, they could hire Chip Kelly who is a disaster (but funny) with the press and media and he would dominate the Pac-12 simply because he's a great coach. I think about the PAC-12 in general when it comes to quality teams and USC being bad hurts its credibility for the east coasters who don't watch anyone else but them for the most part. It's a weak league when Stanford is your best team. They're a perfect "good not great" program that would get smoked by a legit top 5 team imo. Shaw will keep them at 8-10 wins for a while, but they won't be a playoff team almost ever. Oregon has the same issue with Helfrich and I think he's worse than Shaw. The Pac-12 just doesn't have a superstar program or coach right now. That's all the SEC and BIG 10. Washington is also a pretender until "we" prove we aren't, our last truly great team was in freaking 2000. Sorry for the tangent, I just kind of spewed that all out. Watching putrid football since I was little engenders a tad bit of bitterness lol.
