DriveClub Review Thread.

Can't say i'm suprised with the mediocre reviews.
While it looks impressive (realistic) it looks boring, sterile and featureless.
You can do photorealistic, but then there's so much you can do after that if you already have GT doing the same, and probably much better.

It seems to be in this weird place where it is somewhat arcadey with insane unrealistic grip...but also trying to be a sim in some places

Game needs to make up its mind

I find it hard to believe this is worse than the awful six person racer in NFS Rivals. Seems like reviewers just want open world no matter what.

Still glad I didn't preorder with these scores though. Yikes!

Yep.

No rewind feature is a negative all of a sudden?

Off track penalties are frowned upon.

No driving line is a negative.

But i get it, coming from Forza Horizon 2 which doesn't punish you for your mistakes and will hold your hand if you let it, the move to this game would be quite jarring I you are not a competent racer who understands fundamental driving techniques.

.

Alway those Forza fanboys bringing up that Horizon 2 ga...oh wait

It needed more driving lines, more assists, more open worlds, more explosions, more HUD, more dlc.

What happened to reviewing games for what they are rather than reviewing them for what you wanted them to be?
They are reviewing the game for. What it has and according to them it doesn't have personality or that much fun. I can't say much because I only played it at e3 but I thought it was kinda boring and difficult but I'm willing to give it another shot with the ps+ edition.

Gamespot is a joke. It's a has-been review site that doesn't have a firm place in the current market, and is trying to reassert itself by slamming the game (and others) with an artificially low score. Just trying to be cool like Edge.

This game is NOT a 5/10. 6, 7, 8 MAYBE. But a 5? That's the sign of an incompetent reviewer who can't separate his biased lack of fulfilment from what is otherwise a solid racer.

Edit: I can't help but be dumbfounded by how unprofessional the Gamespot review is.
What's unprofessional about it?

I have Knack, beaten it and had a great time with it, so, yeah. Can't comment on Ryse, don't have XB1

Hopefully this is a lot more fun than Knack. Then again, it'd have to be terrible to not be. Knack looked pretty, but it was really boring and too difficult for what it was.

Ryse, I thought would be crap, but I went in with lower expectations and quite enjoyed it. It's not a masterpiece, but it was fun.

I'll miss the rewind feature from Forza Horizon 2, though, because I abused it. I'm not great at racing games.

Well, I'm concerned about the future of Evolution or at least, the IP.

DC has a great potential and I'd like to see them coming back to it later.

I wasn't expecting 8s and 9s, but I'm surprised to see just how low the scores are.

Still in for upgrade and season pass. I'm shallow enough to buy it purely for the looks (and the cool locations).

I'm stunned that a game with a post-release review embargo is coming up short. Whatever, I will still get the PS+ version whenever Sony decides to release it

I guess the PGR formula is officially dead. This was a nice throwback, but arcade sims have no place in the industry it seems :/.

You are now an open world arcade racer, a track based sim or Mario Kart. Nothing else in between.

I'm curious how this would've done had it been a launch title as originally intended. If lack of content is a complaint, what was the delay even for? Likely to have something to fill in for those that migrated to 2015.

I dunno maybe they didn't like it.

Also isn't a wide range of scores for a game somewhat a good thing. It proves people have differing opinions. Also going by pure numbers a 5/10 would mean they found it middle of the road, but then again anything below an 8 is bad nowadays.

Or an actual arcade racer, like a Burnout or something.

Next year will hopefully be awesome with Bloodborne, MGS, Uncharted (no delays pls), and Batman but this first year and change has been terrible. Nothing but indie bleh and mediocre "next gen" experiences. Sony dropped the ball after they started selling consoles like gangbusters.

Another disappointment, glad I purchased my PS4 at a huge discount otherwise I'd be feeling that early adopter burn even worse than it already is.

Was it boring because you found it difficult though?

Serious question.

I'm quite shocked really, I thought the reviews would be high than this (I wasn't expecting 9's and 10's, more 8's and high 7's)

Hmm.... I may cancel my pre-order and just download the ps+ edition as a demo.

Then see if its worth £35.

About what I expected. Some actual fair criticism mixed in with bullshit comparisons.
Looking forwards to when my copy gets delivered.

Sony's first party studios seem to really be struggling this generation. So far only Infamous has really come close to the level of quality expected.

I am not suggesting any kind of conspiracy, but it is incredibly strange that, so far, every PS4 AAA exclusive has been taken to the woodshed in terms of reviews. It makes me wonder how Bloodborne and The Order will fare.

Based on what I've been hearing from player impressions, the game is a lot better than what the reviewers are saying. Not that I put much faith in them anyway, I weigh players impressions other than one member of a reviewing site.

Anywho, still waiting for my copy to arrive to play some delicious car porn. I'll leave it up to myself if it doesn't meet my expectations, but I don't think that will happen.

I'll wait to see what the likes of inside sim racing have to say about this.

Yep. Forza Horizon 2 definitely appeals more to people who usually don't play racing games, I can perfectly see that. And it does a great job in satisfying both casual and hardcore drivers.

You really have to watch out for racing enthusiast sites to get an objective statement on the driving model and so on. I mean, I don't think I'm wrong when I say that most of the reviewers probably didn't even play DC with a wheel.

Review scores in general are getting lower. I welcome this. This game was probably a 8.5 last Gen but this Gen its a more realistic 7ish.
Yeah. I personally don't care for reviews, but it's good to see that the press is much more willing to give big, hyped games lower scores. I say this as a big Sony fanboy who wants this game to get all 9s so it can succeed.

Looking forward to actually trying out the game myself today. The PS+ trial means they can really not worry about reviews much if people enjoy the game.

haha I bought it to support the dev- and because thanks to FH2 last week I found I like driving games- open-world, or "corridor" :)

I expected middling review scores honestly. Still will pick this one up seeing as I haven't had a racing game in years, should be fun!

Scores would be higher if the game was open world too-that's how shit looks to work this gen sadly
