I finally crashed during the last top 8 qualifying match for Ultra, sounds like the NLBC vs WNF exhibition was a total blowup?

Top 8 Ultra is so fucking weird this year. It's awesome in that it's totally unexpected, but I also have literally no one in that top 8 I have a personal interest in. Gonna be some good shit, but I probably won't kill myself staying up late Sunday for it and will probably catch it the next day.

If BBCP pools does get streamed (I know he was having connection issues testing yesterday) how incomprehensible is that game if you've never played it or an Aksys fighter before? Want to watch and support Q if gets stream time, but I've never played or watched it.

Apparently someone pulled the fire alarm in the Evo hotel and woke everyone up.

What an ass.

You won't understand shit and will feel overwhelmed at first, but don't worry because the game is gorgeous and there are cool things happening on the screen all the time. When Xrd enters EVO it will shit on the competition, btw.

I have yet to watch the highlights of Ultra, but I am happy as balls that a Rose got in the Top8.

i still lament sfxt's fall from grace.

you can practically TASTE THE POTENTIAL it had to be a staple of the tournament scene.

i Liked the 2 vs 2 aspect of tournaments. It added a degree of adaptability on the fly and also put players on the spot to be able to answer to their partners.

The character interactions and UI and storylines were all very creative and visually pleasing to me. It had a very unique style and i think combined the tekken and SF series in a respectable manner.

Where capcom fucked up BADLY is the greed aspect. They thought too much about the potential business aspect of it and not the fan reaction to it.

1) I think the gems system was good in theory, HORRIBLY executed in motion. If they would have kept just basic speed-power-defense-meter gems with drawbacks it could have added even more variety to gameplay than just character matchups (speedy gief with less dmg, beefier vega with less speed etc...)

2) The 5 ps3 exclusive characters. This was a big one. First of all, console specific characters means that they will never be tournament viable. We know capcom must have brokered some deal with SONY to get them exclusive to their console. Console exclusive characters are not a new thing, BUT 5!? That was capcom basically saying "SORRY XBOX OWNERS, WE DONT CARE ABOUT YOU THAT MUCH. HERE'S A GIMPED VERSION". It left a bad taste in half the fanbase's mouth. what's the point of buying the xbox version if i can't play with these chars? And given that most fighters in the US are played on XBOX, this was a stupid stupid decision.

3) COLE IS NOT POPULAR. SONY STOP TRYING TO MAKE COLE HAPPEN. COLE IS NOT A LIKEABLE CHARACTER. COLE KILLS FIGHTERS.

4) The on disc DLC was the straw that broke the camel's back understandably. But here's what really threw me off the game:

They had the CODY/HUGO/POISON/GUY reveal in a movie Weeks before the game released. THEY FUCKING HAD MADE DLC CHARACTER MOVIE BEFORE THE GAME RELEASED. They animated, voiced, and put out a video of characters that were already in SF4 and expected me to pay for them again. what the fuck yo?

everything else has been explained before. but these were the biggest offenders in my book

I feel bad for the NLBC guys. I know and they that they are better than that but the thing is it was a team exhibition and WNF played the whole thing as a team.

No, no, it was during one of his streams where he was playing people online. No way in hell that would be allowed in a legit match. This was pre-2013 version, so I have no idea where it would be, but this is pretty damned close to what it was like.

Well 2013 update made it more fast paced, and that gem'd be abig issue only if it is widely spread or used, but since I haven't seen it used in any mathes I've seen, it's prob. not worth worrying about now.
..and I am certain they upped the meter consumption on that thing with the 2013 update.

Whenever Daigo switches characters, he loses. Happened with Yun, now again with Evil Ryu. And he was defeated by the oldest character specialist around (John Choi). It must have been like being defeated by his former self.

It's awesome in that it's totally unexpected, but I also have literally no one in that top 8 I have a personal interest in.

SnakeEyez all the way.

And it's not completely unexpected. Fuudo, Momochi, Bonchan, and Sako are not exactly surprises. Ricky Ortiz is a former EVO champion.

Yeah, I've never really had the opportunity to play any anime fighters, but Xrd greatly interests me and I'm looking forward to that.

True, guess I was thinking more of the people you'd expect to be as close to locks as possible not getting in (Daigo, Tokido, Infilitration, etc). Living on the east coast I never get to watch WNF since it starts at midnight or later here so I don't really have the affinity for SnakeEyez like a lot of people do since I've never really seen him outside of majors. Guess I'm rooting for him and Ricky since they're USA, and Momochi because he plays Ken, but none of them are personal picks.

3 matches could have easily gone either way. Just the luck of the draw. It wasn't free or anything.

That's sorta what I mean. Down to the team selection and the players they choose to put up when it came to the match ups, were essentially character counter picks and player counter picks. These dudes clearly also studied who on NLBC they were going to play. NLBC didn't really have that luxury.

Geez, everyone's going to be dead by the end of Evo at this rate, too many hype matches. I'm dead ass tired and I have to run 8AM pools aaaaajfiebrjenekdke

For anyone that cares, the side tournament for Arcana Heart 3: Love Max!!!!! Is today starting at 5 PM PDT at http://twitch.tv/numakie. It's a late start as we are trying to avoid overlap with BBCP as much as possible (that already fucked up the Aquapazza bracket... but that's OK, given what KOG did in USF4).

Passed out last night (had a thoroughly rough mid afternoon - evening) and had to catch up on USF4 updates via the thread. Louffy beasted that badly huh?

Also, was the NLBC v WNF exhibition really as free for West Coast as you all made it sound?

Why root for a guy who thinks the most important of all tourneys is "meh"? Any other player who wins will have the time of his life, while, for Chris, would be "meh"

I get what you are saying but I think Chris is one of the best if not the best umvc3 player. It would be nice for him to have a evo championship under his belt before the game disappears or something.

Just saw Daigo vs John Choi, they played a pure footsies match and both were dropping combos left and right, it was like watching great players playing a game they don't have much experience in and relying mainly on fundamentals. How many FADC into nothing in that game?

When did Ricky win evo?

Really disappointed that I wasn't able to catch any streams yesterday. What are the absolute highlights to catch up on? Mostly interested in the Capcom games.

Day two is about to start in 10 minutes. But you know, Tournament standard time.

We need at least 12k posts today to surpass last year so start posting.

I care. Thanks for the heads up

Ya I was thinking the same thing. Only Art looked really bad. Rest were good matches.

Pre-nerf Guile, I think Dieminion runs the gauntlet.

I hope a patch is coming eventually. Guile has no big-damage options, I don't know why you would take his health down like that. Dieminion against Momochi was a perfect example of how fucked up it is to play Guile now. Dieminion made 5 good decisions for every 1 Momochi made, and he still lost. Shit just isn't fair for us charge character players.

very much agreed!

the gameplay backbone of v2013 was a monumental step away from SF4's volatile mashy mechanics. SFxT had blockstun and tight blockstrings, throws were a bit weaker and not something you just mash, especially throw tech. the game was footsie oriented 90% and the launchers beating lows was genius. the team dynamic was great and you could cover your bases better with 2 characters.

but yeah.. stupid gems and awkward way of selecting them, DLC (even those awful colours), terrible character filter (jersey shore) etc. ultimately made the game a lot worse than it actually played
