Display Lag tested the lag for the PS4 version.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mXSYyr-lTkg

It has 8 frames of lag. I don't think a patch can fix this to make it the best version.

It has 8 frames of input lag but that doesn't tell us anything without testing the input lag on the xbox version. For all we know, it could be the same.

He also didn't mention what arcade stick he was used for the test since there were reports that the PS3 arcade stick was the one causing the input lag.

From the bad port thread (these guys have tested other versions of Ultra and other games):

By their comparison:
Ultra Street Fighter IV Xbox 360 720p 60 FPS 5.1 frames 85ms
Ultra Street Fighter IV PlayStation 3 720p 60 FPS 6.4 frames 107ms
Ultra Street Fighter IV PlayStation 4 1080p 60 FPS 8.0 frames 133ms

&
Killer Instinct Xbox One 900p 60 FPS 4.9 frames 81ms
Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- PlayStation 4 1080p 60 FPS 5.3 frames 89ms
Mortal Kombat X PlayStation 4 1080p 60 FPS 6.4 frames 107ms

Seems like 5-6 is the baseline for most games for their test.

It's not so much the exact number of lag frames but that relatively, its even worse than the PS3 version.

Can input lag not be eliminated completely? I understand if its due to controller, there will be some form of lag when transmitting the actions of a button being pressed, but come on! Arcades got it right, why can't consoles do it too?!

I feel like I am not good enough to notice 6 frame lag.

You notice it when comparing it to something else, so most of us who play on 360/PC will notice it immediately when combos that are easy aren't connecting. Also, muscle memory is a factor, so if it feels off, more than likely something is wrong with the game.

Yea you notice it when you immediately go from one platform to another. However, after you have played on it for a while you get used to it as your body gets accustomed to the delay.

Arcade port and PS3 port of SF4 are the same regarding input lag.

Yeah I've noticed going from the PS3 port to the PC one. Feels way more fluid. Wonder why DisplayLag have'nt tested the PC port as well

yea arcade is actually worse than 360. honestly I didnt feel that much difference when I was playing it during locals on random select stage. I didnt look at the test, but do wonder if they kept record replay and edition select on, b/c I do wonder if that is an issue. There may have been a difference between my ps3 stick and ps4 stick. not too sure as of right now.

Definitely gotta check between pc and ps4 to see the difference

Haven't played in awhile since I played GodsBeard with random character select on PC. I think he was playing on his Cintiq/Wacom. Must have been months ago.

GB is a great guy to play SF with, so respectful with his play.

That's very interesting to know, can't believe the 360 version works better than any other version known to date...

I wonder how they code in their algorithms to check for inputs... I know its in ms so we can barely tell once we are playing something for the first time but there has to be a resolution for it. Are there any games that have less than 10 ms of input lag? Idk, I'm just curious to see the answer.

At least for the SF4 series the arcade version has the same amount of lag as the ps3 version

edit: beaten

Pc version with vsync on supposedly has the same amount of input lag as the ps3/arcade version as well.

By "respectful" you mean he sucks?

He won't mash DP and play a ground game. I dunno, its his Vega and Dudley that scare me more than his Ken.

He is better than me. I am the one that sucks.

Are you sure? That would just about be the experience between two players on opposite coasts of the USA. You should notice it over time even if you don't catch it at first.

I do notice when framerate fluctate but I feel like if my buttons come out I can't tell if its coming out faster or slower with each button press. I tend to try to use cancel combos vs links online.

He doesn't do shenanigans lol, he's a little too reserved with his playstyle. That's what I meant by respectful.

its not like thats a good thing lol

I want him to play Sagat again.

As if we needed more examples of USF4 on the PS4 being broken.

I honestly believe that the success of Skullgirls and Killer Instinct, despite all of negatives that went against both releases, it a really good argument for developing top-flight online play. Where would both of those communities be if the games online play was as bad as MvC3s?

At a minimum, it's allowed the community to survive things which would have killed other games. Great netplay means players who are truly interested in a game can always find comp.

Decent netplay+ a wide userbase like what USFIV has can do the same thing, but smaller games need better netcode than the bigger games to have the same thing happen.

If Marvel had GGPO, it would be doing better today than it currently is.

They weren't VFDC people, just two guys who said they play each other all the time. One was a Aoi and the other was a Sarah.

The Hori Fighting Edge is a big ass stick also.

Years of Saty and Jlai yelling at me for sucking so bad finally starting to pay dividends.

I don't even know who you are, have I played you before?

Haven't I only played you after my stick broke? I'm not doing anything when I play on keyboard because I can't lol

I just sit back and try to RH people with Bison because I can't do combos, throws, dp motions or focus attacks. Bison isn't even one of my characters, it's just easier to do charge motions on keyboard.

I got my PS4 pad working and played against vulva a little bit. Back to using ken, but it still feels weird not being able to double tap and some inputs suck because of the heavy attacks being on analog triggers.

And by ken I mean Omega Seth exclusively.

I used to want a Hitbox so bad, but playing on keyboard makes me wanna rethink that lol

my keyboard buttons are laid out like this on the numpad because it won't register me holding more than two buttons:

[blank][PPP][KKK]
[LP][MP][FP][Focus]
[LK][MK][RH][Red Focus]
[Throw]

It feels like I'm doing math figuring out how to attack lol

So glad my pad works, definitely having fun again.

That combo in the first round was terrifying and incredible.

I should think about expanding the amount of characters I play in VF beyond Eileen and Aoi. Wanna get more acquainted with Jacky and Sarah.
play taka. everyone should learn taka. he's easy and super fun.

I just wanna give a quick shout out to the UNIEL Gifbot on twitter for being an awesome little thing.

It regularly posts combos for different characters, posts containing:
- The written notation of the combo
- How much meter it costs/whether it uses Chain Shift or Veil Off
- How much damage it does
- A compressed gif showing how the actual combo looks
- And a unique hashtag for every character, so you can click on the hashtag and see just a bunch of posts relevant to that one character

And some posts will usually have some extra information about the combo too whether it be about spacing, whether it's a bnb, etc. It's all in Japanese, but the built in auto-translation usually does an okay enough job to give you an idea of what it says.

Some examples:

https://twitter.com/UNI_combo_bot/status/603597612680286209

https://twitter.com/UNI_combo_bot/status/603522213250093056

I really like this Gord slide combo lol https://twitter.com/UNI_combo_bot/status/599475572012490753

Sure, not everything is the most optimized stuff (I'm sure there are better less funny ways Gord players carry people to the corner), but it can be really handy for learning new characters or just finding a bnb you like if you're feeling too lazy to go clicking through forums and wikis.

Pretty great already, right? On top of all that I noticed it will sometimes tweet out little tutorials for less experienced players on some stuff they might not know about, like the tiger knee motion for instant air fireballs. Again, it's all in Japanese, but the gifs give you a good enough idea of what it's about:

https://twitter.com/UNI_combo_bot/status/603552438361018369

https://twitter.com/UNI_combo_bot/status/603618994050834432

https://twitter.com/UNI_combo_bot/status/603265494162898946 - this is one is especially tough to figure out just relying on the auto-translation, but I think the gif makes it mostly clear.

Anyways I just wanted to share this with anybody who didn't already know about it. How awesome would it be if there were something like this for every game? I should mention that I don't actually know how the bot works outside that favoriting posts helps the bot in some way.

Edit: I forgot to mention that there is a BlazBlue bot too https://twitter.com/BB_combo_bot

This is pretty sweet. I'm not particularly familiar with Twitter bots, so how exactly does it work? Is it all automated? Does it trawl Twitter for stuff? Or do users submit content that the bot then formats / generates GIFs for? Or is it entirely manual?

I honestly don't have a clue. There are some tweets it's made which I think explain how it works, but I don't read Japanese and the auto-translations are mostly gibberish. Would like to know myself!
