I think the thing that blows my mind the most about this is the wall of horribly-edited hexagons. Did someone really go out of their way to draw every individual one? Couldn't they have just drawn one, tessellated it to hell and then used Photoshop (considering they aren't afraid to, as evidenced) to just transform / skew the hexagons in a "bubble" shape rather than spending precious manbaby-hours doing it by hand?

For real. I'm pretty sure Wahrer has art that's better, somehow.

So, new topic. We were talking on the FUD forums about actually watching the Halo TV series if it comes out in Q2 2014-- is it only going to be Live for XB1, or Live in general? Because apparently everyone over there is waiting for Halo and/or a Halo bundle in 2014, same as many people here.

Also, it reminds me that I'd love for us to get some sort of Spartan Ops v2. Season 1.5 was so much better than 1.0 that I'm confident if they focused on a smaller set of missions with more meaningful story linking them it could be a blast. Alternatively, give us a return to True Survival Firefight. Both of those things scratch co-op itches that aren't the same as playing through the campaign co-op and bring their own fun mixing it up with friends.

(Plus dedis means our Australian friend might not be skating on glass as much during sessions?)

Actually, I believe the first series hitting then is “Every Street United” (Soccer), and Halo is coming even later.

There was a job posting on the microsoft website the other day about a Halo story supervisor who would be in charge of keeping up with the books and comics and presumably the tv show and provide input to make it as canonically pleasing as possible. I have to wonder if they just realized they need someone in that position and have been trying to get by without one(evidently not because look at that Railgun lightning stuff above) or if they already have someone who has not been able to do their job well.

I'm not one to tell others how to do their jobs but at some point I have to wonder.

EDIT:
Somehow missed this. Holy shit I laughed hard.

What did i do? advertising for such a position now means that must have realized how badly the universe is being managed so hopefully positive improvements come from it.

Such an improvement on the original better dialog than spartan ops

Dedicated servers would be a great improvement for the game i'd rather see a shift towards better written spartan ops with a more engaging story along with maybe a firefight revamp included in the next game with greater megalo options.

I mean simply from an art standpoint. I draw as a hobby and I am fairly confident that if I did comic book art as a job I would be able to put out consistently better art than that.

Like, I don't want to shit on the artist's livelihood, because obviously he's skilled to the point of being a professional, but the art that's been posted here has been abysmal. One can go stylistically simple if that's what they want to do as a design decision, but they are obviously trying to show detail with what they do but are utterly failing.

My thing is that it's so ridiculously, ludicrously easy to fix 90% of the bland shading problems with the Photoshop curves tool that there is essentially no excuse for not doing it. Unless they were going for that "look" intentionally, of course, which is also shamefully stupid.

The perspective and anatomy issues are also bizarre, especially looking at the portfolio of the penciller (Sergio Ariño), like he was super mega rushed and had no time for revisions. Or he is incapable of drawing non-blatantly sexy people like suited-up Spartans...

I want to see the artist for Lilo and Stitch do a comic focusing on the Covenant. Lilo-Grunts would be a sight to behold.

Indeed. I think Spartan Ops has great potential. Wonder how they'll proceed with it.

Seeing such a range of variety in the comics art and drawing styles I wonder if this isn't on purpose based on comics demographics e.g. a style per comic to make them more accessible ;)

I suppose when you have a number of comics it's better to have many styles to suck in various types of art lovers. All that said

This could actually be kind of fun for a one shot or miniseries.

Not all of Halo has to be 100% super serious everybody dies. We could afford to have some small section of the books/comics aimed at a younger audience.

Hell, look at the Mega Bloks line of toys.

IMHO Halo X1 has been in development since Halo 4 started and 4 is the one that felt the pinch resources wise. HX1 is already playable at about 1 year from launch so I take away from that they're getting a ton of play and polish time into this next gen sucker.

You would have to think Live in general, they can't ignore 70+mil 360 owners and what 45+mil subscribers + whatever X1 has by then. Also if you can already share gold between 360/Live it makes perfect sense all the content is shared as well.

I can't believe we didn't get SPOPS S2 by now. I hope they switch that portion to in game cinematics and make use of their mocap studio/equipment and kinect 2 to really ramp up content generation and release cadence.

Azure dedis should mean far less server and ISP hops with a far more optimised global network. Currently from Melbourne, Australia to say Cali is usually 11-15 hops and crossing a lot of networks in both directions. I expect this to be more like 1-5 hops and all on the Azure network/data pipes. Judging by the games of Killer Instinct on X1 so far the netcode/latency is god tier, at least a far sight better than anything else I've ever played on any of the 3 xbox consoles.

Well, it cuts either way. Too little time, you play it safe, or you are forced to downsize, cut, and underdeliver (Halo 2, Halo 4). On the other hand, the games industry is full of stories where a promising game is crushed by the weight of the expansive time and money that's given to it (Duke Nukem, Last Guardian--I'd count some of the Rockstar games in this umbrella as well, but that might be contested).

What we can say is that [i[generally a three-year dev time seems to give the best amount of bang for your buck. It's up to Microsoft to prove it was the right creative decision as well as a business one. I hope 343 are getting the support they need.

The way that they treated the community after the game launched and the fact that they start to listen to the community after the game tanks is an indicator that makes me not have any hope for the game.

As a waypoint mod i see your opinion as biased toward 343. Honestly

Another thing I desperately want is a Metroid series that takes place after the events of Fusion by Genndy Tartakovsky.

A Halo-Metroid crossover by Tartakovsky would probably rip a hole in spacetime.

Why because I like Reach/Halo 4 and I'm optimistic for next gen Halo? Truth be told I prefer Halo 3/2 to either of them but I still play Reach/4 more often because of the netcode/hitscan/region matching.

If you read my or other mods posts on Waypoint you'll see some of us are actually quite critical of 343i and some are all love (same as fans really). One mod actually HATES Halo 4 and expresses that openly. Too many posters/fans assume this of Waypoint mods. The same goes for Bungie mods, oh I've actually been playing Bungie games since marathon on a MAC (way before Halo), does that make me any different in your eyes? I've also been LAN'ing PC's since the days of DOOM and I can still remember that Wolfenstein was handed around as shareware and discussed at length during school lunch times.

How about growing up with Mario on NES or Donkey Kong handheld original, how far back does your gaming experience go? Christ I even went to a distributor event invite for the launch of Blade Runner on PC, which was one of the largest budget titles back in those days. My brother and I started coding PC text based adventures before the age of 10 (I'm 37).

I maturely bitched out 343i about removing assault, even before the game released. It's my go to Halo experience, same goes for flag carrier waypoint. Try checking my Waypoint post history that far back and you'll see I'm no shill, I'm just not a cry baby about not getting everything I want in a Halo game. I even thanked them for returning some population to CTF, that at least was a mini win from having the waypoint etc. If you compare Infinity CTF to the end of life Halo 3 removal of ranked objective you can see why I gave them the thanks. I also posted to Shishka and helped to have Team Throwback put into the playlists, it failed miserable and was removed also due to non-existent populations.

Did you know I had a thread on the official Destiny preorder website? I speculated about the game to within I'd say 80-90% accuracy 12 months before it was even announced. Funny those legendary/mythic B.net members wouldn't care I'm a Waypoint mod as they know where I've come from.

Anyhow I don't want to turn this into another B.net Waypoint joke thread, so enough said. Your opinion is your opinion and I'm over the crap I get for being a Waypoint mod and actually you know, liking to play Halo.

Halo TV : Good question. I forsee a preview / selection of episodes on XBL, the entire thing for XB1. We've no idea what format these episodes will be like, but if they were 24 minutes in a 12 episode season, then maybe the first 3 on XBL, depending on the quality of the episodes. I do wonder how this model will work financially. Do they incentivise Gold with the Xbox TV initiative or is it another fee on top of that?

SPOPS Season 2 : It would have to be real good for me to re up my Gold. Like bloody fantastic.

considering Halo Reach and 4 effectively crippled the series, personally that is a point against you.

The fact that the mods ban people for being hyper critical about Halo whilst on the forums, Which has happened to multiple people on /r/Halo who were permabanned from waypoint. is another point against you because you endorse the forums where mod practice is shady at best.

your gaming credentials mean nothing to me, they dont further your point at all.

that is why i see your opinion as biased.

you wouldn't get lumped in with other waypoint mods if the waypoint mods didn't seem to have some sort of agenda against people that were critical of 343 and halo 4 since the gameinformer article.

Oh wow ragnarok says his own opinion out loud about waypoint mods and ozzy directly shoots into extreme defense mode. Kinda reminds me of the b.net thread a while ago.
I wonder when the waypoint mods are finally going to get the message...

Actually he posted directly at me, not the mods in general. Enough meta discussion kids.

One fact here is those posters don't read the rules and do the wrong thing. A second fact is those banned posters and Ragnarok scapegoat volunteers for the MS forum rules in place and their inability to follow simple rules and be decent to other members/developers. A third fact is the Halo games continue to outsell each previous one. A fourth fact is population died off for a range of reasons and "most" would prefer a return to a more classic feeling Halo. It's why I decided to put together a multi-community survey, to get a sense of what is liked and what isn't. It's subjective and heavily multiplayer focused in terms of "facts".

I'm not sure what part of me liking Halo 2/3 more than Reach/4 you don't understand. As for forum rules I'm sure you won't be banned here at NeoGAF for using an animated avatar or trash talking EvilLore or posting porn or abusing other members directly, go ahead be my guest and try breaking some other forums/their rules and see how you go. Good luck.

Anyhow I won't reply to this and shit up the Halo OT thread any longer. PM me about anything Waypoint mod related.

Waypoint mods practice do as I say not as I do for moderation of the site. I've seen people post and get banned for genuine questions, that are slightly negative towards halo 4 and 343.

B.net does have a point I mean you mentioned banning Juices earlier for the community member thing.

I was about to post how a lot of your comments first involve making excuses or defending some of these obviously poor decisions, then you continue to slightly be real.

A lot of your posts are structured like the one I quoted above. I'm sure that's at least one reason why people consider you to be very biased.

What does that little strip even do or is it a stylistic choice of the armor they have? Aesthetically pleasing armor can be done well and not look like it's a couple of pieces slapped over a skin tight under suit.

There's also fireteam Bailey art but I couldn't find a decent shot of it to post here, it's more iffy art there is a grunt in the background that could be a ghost buster with the massive shell it has.

It supposed to be protecting her belly from damage which is in in a lesser extend Master chief 3 Halo 4 armor style or viceversa.

So S-4 have an extra black suit layer of armor and wore less armor to be more visually pleasing.

No, but 343 has to realize that a large portion of the Halo audience is in the demographic of kids between 8 and 16. There is a reason that they are making a ton of toys, minifigures, megabloks and so on.

Halo: Combat Evolved had a very lighthearted tone for much of the campaign. Sure, there was the whole end of the universe everybody dies and gets absorbed into the gravemind before we knew it was a gravemind, but the stylized art(big heads of the marines, Keyes, and so on), the constant joking("We're screwed man!") and there was just a sense of...not taking itself too seriously. The Grunts were always being stupid silly, the Elites were over the top aliens(Wort wort wort) and there was a sense of just playing a fun adventure.

Just look at Halo Legends. It is pretty arguable that the best short of the entire thing was that Toriyama production with Spartan 1337 or whatever it was. Lighthearted takes on Halo, while not exactly needed, almost seem to take the series back to its roots for me.

I guess what I'm saying is that no, we don't need anything specifically aimed at kids, but I want the game to kind of tone it back a bit when it comes to the campaign. Present grim settings and horrific battles against the Flood or whatever, but there needs to be some joking around, some silliness, and something else that sets it apart from the rest of the pack of FPS games.

Call of Duty takes itself super seriously, Battlefield dropped the Bad Company moniker that allowed itself to joke around, Killzone is super serious, Destiny seems to be more serious than it could be, and I think Halo could do something to set itself apart if it wanted.

That turned into rambling a bit, but hopefully my point comes across.

EDIT: Maybe 343 should recruit some of the talent that IDW has working on Transformers? Right now they're going after artists who have been working on superheros wearing tights. The artists are probably drawing what they've always done and then adding armor pieces or they're out of their element drawing the mechanics of spartan armor. The Spartans have a real mechanical look and sometimes the transformers look pretty humanoid/organic. Maybe a middle ground could be found that makes the spartans look better than ever.

I don't know FUBAR.. I don't think I want anymore corny jokes in a Master Chief campaign. That might be best saved for other mediums like shows, comics, toys, etc.

Agreed. Halo campaigns centered around Chief need to keep that dark tone that was there in the last half of Halo 4's campaign. The less Spartan Ops characters involved, the better.

It's like some of the up armored stuff from reach then just extra protection, what even is the most aesthetically pleasing halo 4 style armor?

I still think it looks silly, how did people start doing concept art drawing i'd like to draw some stuff that is halo armor related eventually. Maybe if I'm lucky it will turn out half decent.

More great art. Such Spartan, many grunt, wow.

Looks like we've got some friendly fire going on, too.

If someone colored you in mint green i'd think team killing is warranted. Also giant grunts that are jackel height?

I can see the argument I suppose. I just like to see things not take themselves too seriously sometimes.

And The Duel was easily the worst short of Halo: Legends. What a horrible art style. I could barely tell what was going on about 90% of the time.

The Package + Prototype were amazing though. 1337 was awesome for other reasons.

First time I watched The Duel I was thrown off by it too. After watching it several times now it's my favorite story, along with The Babysitter. The Arbiter and dynamics between ODST's/Spartans are awesome.

The worst has to be Homecoming though. That art style was like these pics, but in an animated film lol:

Overall, I really liked all of Halo Legends and I'm surprised we haven't seen anything else like it ;\
