I found a vagina in Watch Dogs 2 and Sony suspended me (Update: Ban lifted)

I don't think Ubisoft shoulder any responsibility here, it's all on Sony since it's their platform. Nobody reads the ToS and if their console has the feature and allows the upload to go through, that's a gap they need to address.

Sure. I think at the very least that these companies should have the foresight to say, hey, our title may not (totally does) have/has material in it that isn't suitable to share on social media, just a heads up. It's Sony's fault ultimately as they pulled the trigger on the account, but better communication could have helped in general.

OP did absolutely nothing wrong. If he feels comfortable sharing such images on his personal Twitter feed, that's his choice. I wouldn't condone children seeing it, but it's his right and it's on Sony and Ubisoft for enabling it.
Well that's a strange line of reasoning. No one is stopping you from reading a porno on the subway either. Maybe it's rated AO and maybe there are only adults on the train, but I won't enumerate that under your "rights". Twitter is public, psn sharing enabled the situation and that's the issue here imo. Maybe OP did something within what was permitted to him, but he's no hero.

True. Again I don't think it's something kids should see, and it's not something I would do. I don't think OP should have had his account banned regardless of whether or not I think he should have shared the image, though. You're right that it's all public, and that's the problem.

The strange line of reasoning here is that someone took a screenshot of unmodified game content available on Sony's platform and shared it, Sony banned them for it, and this is somehow the OP's fault. That's insane. Clearly there is a gap in Sony's policies on sharing content, and Sony should bear the weight of that.

Sony are fucking worthless. I have some kind of bullshit IP ban so I can't even access the PS store from my PC, nevermind use PSN that I paid for. I wish a pox on them and all their ventures until the end of time.

If this were the case for me or OP's case I probably wouldn't be gaming on a Playstation console period anymore.

Wait... They ban you from the PSN store? Wtf. Why?

What does banning you from the store do?
They literally won't let you give them money because they banned you?

I mean, when you upload pictures they get broadcast over PSN to your friends. You should know this, and if you upload something crass like this people are going to report you. Some people might not even be offended and just want to see you get a suspension.

If you had disabled your PSN sharing and protected your profile you probably wouldn't have been banned, and Sony probably would never have noticed or cared.

It's the same way you wouldn't plaster this screen on NeoGaf without risk of suspension. You don't post pictures of genitals, even digital ones, in public spaces where they are not permitted. You erred in judgment and now you do the time.

Update:

I got an email 30 minutes ago telling me that my ban is now 1 month because of a violation today. Bare in mind that I was banned yesterday and have not been able to make any new uploads since the ban and the only thing I'd uploaded in months was the single image this thread is about.

I'm really disappointed right now.

Fuck off Sony, what're you doing?

But why do some of you insist that the problem is that this is something kids shouldn't see when kids have seen MUCH worse by the age of 10? Not to mention, there's absolutely nothing wrong with seeing a vagina. What's going to happen to them? They're going to get traumatised?

At least not more than from watching TV and listening to Trump saying "grab them by the pussy"!
Give me a goddamn break.

The original ban was probably a bit heavy handed but I get it. The followup extension, what the fuck Sony. It can be a backwards ass company sometimes.

the thread for you http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1314657 .
but seriously and without joking..if sony does not want that to happen, they should disable sharing screenshots from m-rated games..

That doesn't make it okay.

And what's wrong with seeing a vagina? Answers will vary depending on who you ask, and context is also important: in this situation, the image is of a prostitute with her legs spread open. You really don't think people should/would care about an underage kid seeing that?

It's not about it "traumatizing" anyone, don't be ridiculous. There's a lot more to this.

Um, I thought the developer was allowed to limit which scenes were allowed to be screenshot/recorded. Shouldn't Ubisoft be banned then since they didn't apply the appropriate filter? Or is this just on Xbox consoles.

You think a 4 week ban from all online services is justified for posting a pic of an in-game vagina? Give me a break.

Delete the pic, warn the user, done.

Sony just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but vaginas are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being a dick. If you screw vaginas in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Watch Dogs 2 for either system, nor will they purchase any of Sony's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Sony has alienated an entire market with this move.

Sony, publicly apologize and cancel the ban or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Or, you know, assume Mature content will be uploaded from Mature-rated games, and implement a content filter on said uploads _______just like every other online service_________

Yep. It's quite simple. Do they have no issue with posting pictures and videos of sex scenes with Kratos, or Kratos ripping heads and showcasing them? Then they should have no issue with taking screenshot of a game where a player stumbled upon a vagina and wanted to share his findings, not sharing his porn collection.

Oh come the fuck on. He took a screenshot while playing a game. He used the screenshot functionality built into the console by Sony, shared it on the friend services built into the console by Sony, while playing a game approved and certified by Sony.

I think the difference between posting an image of it on your feed and it being in a game Sony are selling is that by buying the game you understand what you are going to see, through the ESRB rating and the bullet list along with it.

People that view your profile where this image has been shared didn't agree to seeing that content.
So then why is wharing extreme violence okay then? That's far worse than this nudity.

This whole post has got to be satire. If so, then cheers.

Yes. Automatically mark posts by M-Rated games as mature, and Twitter will put a filter on it requiring user approval to view the image. Banning users using your service is stupid.

It's like a strip club: you could be the longest member there is, and they'll give you a lapdance and even let you touch it, but if you take a picture then you're tossed out. Lol, Sony white-knighting like a hypocrite.
