Media Create Sales: Week 52, 2011 {2011.12.26 - 2012.01.01}

I am not really sure.

It is currently performing near similar to what PSP did back then, and PSP never dropped below 10k. Also, PSV has launched against PSP and 3DS, while PSP only had to face DS.

However, we yet have to see if PSP audience will move to PSV.

Vita looks like it will start to fall behind what the PSP did during its launch period, unless there's a sudden upswing in sales. They'll probably be about even after next week, then Vita will start to track lower.

Part of the reason Vita is tracking ahead at the moment is because it had a larger initial shipment than what the PSP got.

Did the PSP launch right in the middle of the holiday season? Because i'm sure that would have some impact.

With no real big games in the near future and so long until the next holiday season i feel like there could be a big lull for the vita in the near future.

I think it was because Nintendodidn't want just the GBA against the PSP. They were so unsure about the DS though, that they allowed themselves room to fall back to the GBA if it bombed. It didn't.

That's pretty interesting really. Also your tag is awesome.

Yeah Nintendo was insisting that the DS was not a true followup to the GBA (despite backwards compatibility) but rather a new "third pillar" of their business.

They stopped saying that when the DS took off.

I also recall an interview somewhere which revealed that Nintendo had what was basically a portable Gamecube ready to succeed the GBA in case the DS went the way of the Virtual Boy.

and again - we'll see how things pan out. All i see is undue panic over 3 weeks sales - it's bullshit.

My argument wasn't a matter of "it will turn out like this," it was an argument of "if things went this way, then this might happen."

Crucial difference.

PSP launched a week earlier than Vita, and on a Sunday instead of a Saturday. So it caught a bit more of the holiday period.

And Vita is undoubtedly going to go through a software drought this year, every system does in those months after launch. The issue is usually how long it lasts. Which is where launching 10 months after the 3DS hurts Sony, because it's easier to see through a software drought when your competitor is going through one as well.

Nintendo gave the date for third quarter earnings release: Jan 26

I wonder if they will announce that they are expecting a profit since the 3DS out did their own expectations which has to translate to software doing better than expected. Software is where they will make all of their money.

That's basically what i think will hurt them and why i think it's pointless to compare their launch line-ups. Unfortunately for the vita the 3DS already has some of its biggest games already realeased and has a decent size install base. By the time any big vita games are coming out there will probably already be some mroe big games coming out for the 3DS.

3DS hasn't out done their expectations and it remains to be seen if it actually meets them.

They had a plan B in case DS would had failed horribly. Basically they would had said "lol we weren't serious with DS" and revealed the next Gameboy. We know that some initial concepts for the GBA successor exist.

Damn, that could have been the most amazing E3 ever and could have provided us with so many troll face gifs they would have lasted a lifetime.

In Japan, it did. Iwata was expecting the system to reach 4 millions in February, not in December. Don't know about USA and Europe.

Added drop percentages from last week, and while doing it, I've seen we have two more numbers for last week top 50.

19./22. [PSP] Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2011 - Ketteiban <SPT> (Konami) {2011-12-22} - 17.065 / 51.905 (-51%)

FW = 51.905-17.065 = 34.840

20./26. [PSP] Frontier Gate <RPG> (Konami) {2011-12-22} - 15.800 / 44.443 (-45%)

FW = 44.443-15.800 = 28.643

21./23. [WII] Rhythm Heaven Fever (Nintendo) {2011-07-21}
22./00. [PSP] Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2011 - Ketteiban (Konami) {2011-12-22} - 34.840
23./27. [3DS] Nintendogs + Cats (Golden Retriever, Toy Poodle, French Bulldog & New Friends) (Nintendo) {2011-02-26}
24./31. [PSP] Little Battlers eXperience - Boost (Level 5) {2011-11-23}
25./33. [PSP] Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 (Konami) {2011-11-03}
26./00. [PSP] Frontier Gate (Konami) {2011-12-22} - 28.643

Another thing.

No JAPGaf can translate what I posted earlier?

Please :p

P.S. No 31-50 for the MC Chart yet?

Anything that sells a million copies cannot possibly considered a bomb. Even if it was expected to sell 3 million, it's still sold a shitload and garnered a substantial audience.
I think you guys are losing sight of what a bomb really is. Ni no Kuni PS3 — now that was a bomb.

If Mario Kart 7 sold only 1 million LTD in Japan it wouldn't be just a bomb but a huge bomb. No one would care if Nintendo made money from it.

And why 1 million? 300k is the golden spot. Anything that sells over 300k is a success.

Toth said:
People....even with the average sale numbers of FF13-2, it was still the biggest PS3 seller in Japan. What does that say about the market to you? I say SE was smart not to have a huge shipment as they must see where the winds are blowing...
By itself, not a lot. If Final Fantasy XIII had sold a third as well as it did, it also would've been the biggest PS3 seller of the year. On the whole, though, PS3's 2011 games are doing better than its 2009 games, though the difference isn't as big as a few weeks back.
PS3+2011+games

A decision to ship fewer XIII-2 wouldn't have been based on the market as a whole, but because it was XIII-2.

My bad, Frontier Gate...

I thought it would have been worse, especially in its second week...

Amazon Watch:
Armored Core V - 14th
RE Revelations - 20th

The holy trinity is still in top 10, with MK and 3D Land 2nd and 3rd, and MH3G 7th
3 skus of 3DS are in top 20, with the white one 8th... the black and the blue are sold out, offered only at almost 17.000 Yen

Vita Wi-Fi 16th, 3G 76th

The surprise: Rhythm Thief. It's 30th, and it's out on the 19th. Talking about it wit elektroplankton, he thought it was all due to the demo release days ago, alongside RE, MGS. Really, it could do better than we thought. Beyond the Labyrinth is just outside top 100, but considering when preorders began, it went in top 10, it's readying to go really up in the next days.

Shinren Camera is 40th, Gravity Daze is 34th, Theatrhythm is 32nd
Harvest Moon 42nd, Ragnarok Odissey 48th

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Thanks for the top 50, Chris. YoY the software was down of 12 millions games. Ouch.

Already added everything in the OP. Thanks Chris! :D

Eh, 12 millions lost. It's a transaction year indeed, aggravated by the low number of notable releases on Wii and DS.
And...and last year we had a main Pokemon and a main MH, however.
This year, with the definitive surge of 3DS, especially if it'll have in one year Animal Crossing and Tomodachi, combined with the continued sales of MK and 3D Land and MH, we'll see an obvious increase.

I only just realised that despite having a PSP version Lord of Apocalypse completely underperformed compared to its predecessor.

Fair to say Lord of Arcana didn't exactly leave people awaiting a sequel with bated breath.

2011 was the worst year for Pokemon since it was introduced.

Pokemon Gray 3DS coming to the rescue.

AND NOT BLACK & WHITE 2 FOR DS, NINTENDO. COME THE FUCK ON, BE LOGIC AND DON'T MAKE WHAT ORGEN REPORTED REAL

No games from the main series, no mystery dungeon-sequel, no remakes. It has to be expected, though no mystery dungeon sequel with Pokémons of the White/Black generation has been quite surprising. Maybe before the first half of 2012.

The first half has Pokemon + Nobunaga's Ambition for DS, Spring.

And this is another sign that it's coming. Dairantou Smash Bros. Iconic Musou. Because you know you want it.

And that drought is extra rough, because if sales aren't good, there's always the worry that some developers might cancel their Vita output, or move it to 3DS.

Anything that sells a million copies cannot possibly considered a bomb. Even if it was expected to sell 3 million, it's still sold a shitload and garnered a substantial audience.
I think you guys are losing sight of what a bomb really is. Ni no Kuni PS3 — now that was a bomb.
Tell that to Shenmue /Troll-face.jpg

Without Mysterious Dungeon, a mainline entry, a remake or something else, it's be difficult to sell a lot. Hope that the Nobunaga's Ambition crossover will sell well so to start another successful franchise.

I am not really sure.

It is currently performing near similar to what PSP did back then, and PSP never dropped below 10k. Also, PSV has launched against PSP and 3DS, while PSP only had to face DS.
Can't really compare to PSP, situation is different now.

I believe PSV first 22 weeks won't match (i.e. it will be below ) PSP first 22 weeks and sub 20K ( do I need to go lower? ) weeks are to be expected.

PSP first weeks

I wish they'd hurry up and make Pokemon a full 3D RPG. The same 2D overview of the game has gotten stale, and now that they have the power of the 3DS, it's time for them to take the next step with it as they did with Mario, Zelda, and Metroid.

The thing is that 3D doesn't add anything to Pokemon. Really, all that it'll do is make development harder, longer, and more expensive. As a result, I would not count on there ever being a full 3D Pokemon.

and again - we'll see how things pan out. All i see is undue panic over 3 weeks sales - it's bullshit.

You are changing your point of your argument though.

You were saying PSP outselling VITA during Christmas is a good thing because Sony makes profit from PSP and VITA is at "a MAXIMUM sell through of 500k over the Xmas period". I would have agreed with you if VITA is sold out or in short supply but that was not the case. Wouldn't it be better if Sony sells all the units they shipped before people decide to pick a PSP? If VITA can not get consumers attention away from PSP while it is brand new, what will make it more attractive than PSP down the road?

3DS Broke Monthly Sales Record in December

Nintendo 3DS broke Enterbrain's monthly sales record in December. According to Sankei News, the system sold 1,492,931 units over the month. This is the highest single month sales total since Enterbrain started tracking sales in 1997.

Enterbrain's December tracking period covers November 28 through December 25.

3DS has has claimed Enterbrain's top monthly sales spot for seven months running.

PlayStation Vita was the second highest selling system for the month, with 402,794 units. Vita was released on the 17th.

I don't think it's a huge leap. Already on DS the worlds are in simple 3D, and they already create animated 3D models of the Pokémon for things like the Stadium-type games and 3DS's Pokédex.

The easy answer (if not the easy delivery) is a hot Vita game, and for more time to pass since the later major PSP games.

Pokémon graphics should be upgraded to this:

Yeah, should be in cell shading.
