A great list of games! Two of my all time favorites (Bloodborne and The Last of Us) are there!

It's so weird, if you look at how many points the GOTY winners got each year, the least amount of points were given to Journey, Bayonetta 2 and Mass Effect, all of which I consider legit in my top 15 of my GOAT list. The more points it gets in the GAF GOTY tally, the more bleh and undeserved I find it.

Like this list:

Mass Effect, maybe Skyrim, is the first one I consider legit memorable.

I'm such a goddamn hipster.

Good to see all the votes from the silent majority of MGSV players got it up to 3rd, after all the noise from the angry minority in the past few months.

I am happy for this list! GAF delivered again! LiS, Until Dawn, Bloodborne and The Witcher 3 all getting awarded for the wonderful entertainment that each of these games provided. Thank God!

Great work handling the votes.

Look's like I wasn't the only one to vote for Devil's Third.

Are there anymore stats around the voting differences between Bloodborne and Witcher 3 specifically?
Maybe take a subset of ballots that had either of those games at number 1 and look at Ballot Length, Existence of Other Game and Position of Other Game.

My recommended titles:

1. [NWU] Yoshi's Woolly World (Platform) = 10 points, 1 honorable mention
2. [3DS] Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. (Strategy) = 8 points
3. [PC] Undertale (RPG) = 6 points
4. [360][XB1][PS3][PS4][PC] Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (Action) = 5 points
5. [3DS] The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes (Adventure) = 5 points
6. [360][XB1][PS3][PS4][PC] Life Is Strange (Adventure) = 5 points
7. [3DS] The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D (Adventure) = 5 points
8. [XB1][PS4][PC] The Witcher III: Wild Hunt (RPG) = 4 points, 1 honorable mention
9. [3DS] Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (Action) = 4 points
10. [NWU] Fast Racing Neo (Racing) = 3 points, 1 honorable mention

I'll just look at the top ten. I mean my number 11 was NBA 2K16 for some reason even though I didn't list a single sports game.

Wooly World is correctly at #1 and I already have Codename Steam but haven't started it.

Two big outliers stick out. First Life is Strange seems a weird recommendation based on the games I had listed. I have no intention to play it.

The second, bigger one is Witcher III which is one of my least desired games to play. I guess because I had an RPG as my number 1 choice, but it was Sci-Fi and Fallout 4 is infinitely more interesting to me. I literally just bought some Fallout shirts and socks yesterday. I feel this is a case of Witcher III being on a ton of ballots.

Also surprisingly no Bloodborne even though I had an RPG and action game high up.

It's a fun bonus of course but It's interesting it choose the two games from the top ten I have no intention to play (I do plan to play every other top ten game that wasn't already on my list) along with one I will out of eight total.

Look's like I wasn't the only one to vote for Devil's Third.

I am also guilty.

When searching for my name I was surprised how many times my name showed up on other peoples lists. That's pretty cool

You were n°1 on mine! I think this was explained before, but I don't get how one user is on the top of my list, yet I'm not on his.

Aw, I just realized Splatoon was only 3 points away from 1000, sucks it couldn't have crossed that amount too

I was one of the angry minority who also voted for MGSV (2nd best on my list). The game is awesome but it does have glaring flaws that people needed to vent about.

I'm surprised what a good top 20 list for the 2010s gets made by this. I would've thought that more users would've resulted in more votes in later years, and biased things towards more recent releases, but this seems pretty balanced.

You were n°1 on mine! I think this was explained before, but I don't get how one user is on the top of my list, yet I'm not on his.

Pretty sure its just relative. For example, if you two had an affinity of 110 and that was your highest affinity then he would appear as number 1 for you. However, if he had 10 people who had an affinity score with himself greater than 110 than you would be left off of his list. As far as the actual equation used to calculate it pretty sure it was posted earlier in the thread.

Or in real life, there's a continuum of opinions where people can love a game and still want to discuss how much it really fumbled certain aspects? It's not 0 or 1.

The 'angry minority' is probably the reason it's up there, they just didn't rank it in 1st place.

You are asking to change the "souls formula" , the games might not be for you then.
You absolutely misread that post haha

The post you're replying to said that Dark Souls did some stuff better than Bloodborne.

that shows how bad 2014 line-up is. People just don't bother to vote that year. Bayonetta 2 would've not made Top-5 this year

Maturity, bitches.
Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros, Bayonetta, Tropical Freeze…

Maybe for others it wasn't great, but 2014 was a great year for Wii U owners.

Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros, Bayonetta, Tropical Freeze…

Yep. Bayonetta 2 and Tropical Freeze are both GOAT contenders in their genres, Mario Kart 8 is arguably the series' best (with fantastic online play and ridiculous aesthetics), and Smash is a return to form after Brawl with a stellar roster and totally fine online play (this by itself is a miracle).

With those and stuff like Wolfenstein and Evil Within, I can't hate on 2014 too much.

So you don't understand the "boner" just because you didn't enjoy it as much?

I didn't like Splatoon, do you see me in threads trying to be dismissive of the game, specially when a lot of people talk about how revolutionary it was? Because i didn't like it it doesn't mean i'm the right about it to the point i don't understand how people can think like that.

You mentioned Fifa in another post, i think the game is really bad, even in comparison to PES, should I imagine you are crazy for not only enjoying it, but also enjoying it a lot more above Rocket League?

Respect other people's opinions, dude.

Right on.

Agreed. Great year for Wii U (Mario Kart, Smash, DKC, Captain Toad) and Xbox One had Titanfall, Forza Horizon 2, and Sunset Overdrive.

I had a lot of fun in 2014. 2015 matched it for me -- I wouldn't say that 2015 was better.

2016 on the other hand should be far better than both of those years for me.

Thanks for doing all the hard work it takes to put up these stats. Glad Bloodborne,LiS, and Until Dawn got so much love. Poor Soma though and lol Fallout 4. Despite my problems with it, I had to put MGS V in my list for all the things it does right and I guess alot of people felt the same way.

Weighted means here if there were a low number of total counted ballots compared to the average, the game gets more points to account for the fluctuations of voter participation.
2010 918 -> *1.27
2011 1303 -> *0.90
2012 964 -> *1.21
2013 1165 -> *1.00

Seriously. Look at that fucking list. LOOK AT IT! Holy shit this year was fantastic. Imo anyone who thinks that 2015 was a terrible year for video games is objectively wrong.

And man I feel so fucking good that Until Dawn made the Top 10.

I put together a quick list of the top ten remakes/remasters for the year. Note: I don't see Xenoblade Chronicles 3DS or God of War 3 on the list anywhere. Also, note that the 'comprehensive list' seems to omit a lot of the remakes/remasters. I found them in the top ten categories but some were missing in the master list.

Top ten remakes/remasters:
1) Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 222 points
2) Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First sin 157 points
3) Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. 114 points
4) Tearaway Unfolded: 107 points
5) Resident Evil HD Remaster: 80 points
6) Grim Fandango Remastered: 58 points
7) Devil May Cry 4: 45 points
8) Rare Replay: 43 points
9) Final Fantasy Type 0 HD 39 points
10) Gears of War: Ultimate Edition: 20 points

I think the voter participation / total votes cast indicates that this year was good for the average GAF member that is not in principle opposed to participating in such voting.

guys, i don't really understand. if you're going to ask for comments, then why not read them? this wasn't really a mess as it was described, and it actually made people change some of their lists.

my opinion of these threads wasn't that they were great for having data year in year out, but to have an accurate look at gaf's game of the year.
Yeah seriously, Super Smash Bros for 3DS and Wii U were considered different games, and the Rodea games aren't even the same genre.
