2011 = 7 games
2010 = 3 games

4x Nintendo
4x Sony
12x Multi (to be fair, all platforms excluding Nintendo in almost all cases)
(0x PC, Microsoft etc.)

Talking about 2013, is impressive how TLOU completely steamrolled the competition. The difference of votes between it and Bioshock Infinite (2013's 2nd place) would put a game at number 13 in the above list.

Two things....

I'm surprised Batman still made it at #13. It received plenty of criticism, especially for the PC version.

Nintendo created the best shooter of the year? What year is it?
I'm playing Splatoon right now. It is my favorite Wii-U game next to Mario Kart 8!

Note to self

Genre Awards -- more trouble than they're worth?

I'm mostly shocked about Rare Replay being no where to be seen. That thing is a treasure and it's #4 on my list.

It's a rerelease (or port compilation, etc.) so it wasn't eligible for the main list. It was eligible for genre/platform awards.

So for instance in platformers:
8. Rare Replay = 43 points, 14 honorable mentions

Gta wasn't the second place game. Bioshock infinite was. Gta5 was third.

Oh, you're right. Man, i was sure that GTA got the second place, i really forgot about B:I.

Well, the difference between the 2 is only 10 points, so my point still stands =]

Bioshock Infinite winning second... I wonder how it would place if we had a re-vote.

Yeah, as I said I didn't even remember that bioshock infinite was a 2013 game, even more it placing 2nd. I was sure that GTA got that spot.

Being sincere I don't even finished the game and I bought it at launch. So I'm not the most unbiased person to speak about it.

Very pleased that Bloodborne won! It's the only game I bothered listing as I just felt it was easily GOTY.

Tight design, amazing gameplay. Really wish more games were designed with less bloat in mind like Bloodborne.

I'm surprised Bloodborne won, I guess I drastically underestimated how much GAF loves Bloodborne, I haven't played a Souls game since I tried Demon Souls and didn't like it, maybe I'll try this since you all are pretty high on it.

I'm glad The Witcher 3 got 2nd, thats my personal GOTY.

Good list overall, no real complaints about the top 10 I think all those games deserved it, good job team.

Seriously. Look at that fucking list. LOOK AT IT! Holy shit this year was fantastic. Imo anyone who thinks that 2015 was a terrible year for video games is objectively wrong.

And man I feel so fucking good that Until Dawn made the Top 10.

In all seriousness, 2015 is the most fun I have had with games in my life. Most other years that are considered great (like 1998 or 2011) I only got to play a handful of those games, but this year was never a dull moment. I still have a mountain sized backlog of just 2015 games because there was more great software than time. This was a wonderful year to game and 2016 looks to be really amazing as well^^

Interesting to see how MGS V performed... It was my GOTY but it's a rather divisive game here on GAF, and I wasn't sure how it'd poll. It'll be interesting to see how it's received in the next 2-4 years as people revisit it with different expectations. It reminds me a lot of Final Fantasy XII, and how it was also received with a very contrasting reception, and either well received for its different style or lambasted for not being FF enough (in the same way V is now MGS enough) while both also being exacerbated for troubled developer relationships and not being finished. Wouldn't surprise me to see MGS V follow FF XII in similar sort of slow growth of an almost cult like following here and RTTP/LTTP threads that, while perhaps still not glowing, appreciate the game differently than upon original release.

Also, good to see continued popularity of Witcher 3 because I hope it benefits Cyberpunk 2077. It was my 2nd favorite game of the year, but my interest in how it polls is because I think CDP took somewhat of a big financial gamble (in terms of production values and their past financial trouble) to really go 'all in' with Wild Hunt, and it's good to see them rewarded if it means future RPGs of the same scale (though I think Bloodborne winning and MGS V performing well are also good for reinforcing the importance of tight core gameplay). It's promising for what it means to the production of Cyberpunk 2077, but also other future AAA story games (a point Jim Sterling's vlog made recently).

On another note, would be great to see more people try Shadowrun Hong Kong and Invisible Inc, and I hope something spurs more interest into Satellite Reign again. Maybe a Director's Cut for any of those, or even ports (I know Invisible Inc arrives on PS4 soon), but hopefully more GAF users find reasons to check out all 3 of those so we can get more games like them in the future. Maybe XCOM 2 will help this out, too, as users re-invigorated in sci-fi tactics and management seek out similar games in its after glow, or just general sort of sci-fi cyberpunk interest in similar set games as the next Deus Ex approaches.

Checking my personal recommendations the top 5 recommendations are games I have no interest on at all:

D:

1. [360][XB1][PS3][PS4][PC] Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (Action) = 11 points, 1 honorable mention
2. [PC] Undertale (RPG) = 5 points
3. [XB1][PS4][PC] The Witcher III: Wild Hunt (RPG) = 5 points
4. [NWU] Super Mario Maker (Platform) = 5 points
5. [PS4][PC] Rocket League (Sports) = 4 points

Bloodborne collects GOTY from some of the most legit media

1. NeoGAF
2. EuroGamer
3. EDGE
4. GameTrailers
5. The Guardian

Not bad. Destructoid gave it GOTY too. Sort of surprised because Bloodborne doesn't exactly have the same sort of widespread appeal nor accessibility of some of the other games. Then again, neither did Bayonetta 2 last year.

I think GTA would jump to #2, Bioshock would be #3, and Metal Gear Rising would be higher than #7.

Interesting you think that. From my short time on GAF, it seems like public opinion of Infinite has vastly deteriorated, almost to the point that it becomes unanimous in LTTP threads that it was overrated and not as good as it was once thought to be. But maybe I'm missing something here through.

Based on the points awarded these are the top 20 games over the last 5 years and the games with over 1000 points.

01. Bloodborne = 2729 points (2015)

02. The Witcher III: Wild Hunt = 2460 points (2015)

03. The Last of Us = 2268 points (2013)

04. Portal 2 = 2114 points (2011)

05. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain = 1786 points (2015)

06. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim = 1654 points (2011)

07. Mass Effect 2 = 1302 points (2010)

08. Rocket League = 1237 points (2015)

09. Dark Souls = 1219 points (2011)

10. Deus Ex: Human Revolution = 1206 points (2011)

11. Red Dead Redemption = 1174 points (2010)

12. Bayonetta 2 = 1132 points (2014)

13. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword = 1120 points (2011)

14. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception = 1096 points (2011)

15. Journey = 1080 points (2012)

16. BioShock Infinite = 1080 points (2013)

17. The Walking Dead = 1063 points (2012)

18. Grand Theft Auto V = 1058 points (2013)

19. Batman: Arkham City = 1055 points (2011)

20. Life Is Strange = 1030 points (2015)

The number of games in each year :
2015 = 5 games
2014 = 1 game
2013 = 3 games
2012 = 2 games
2011 = 7 games
2010 = 2 games

So 2015 was pretty damn great but still not as good as 2011.

Bioshock Infinite would probably get substantially less points if 2013 was redone. Metal Gear Rising is looked at much more favorably, in retrospect.

Good to see The Witcher 3 finish off a dominant "award season" with a very high placing here. It was the best game I played all year and it basically has set the standard for any upcoming open world games. It was an unmatched overall experience for me and deserved all the hype it got in 2015.

TLOU was just that good.

And in the year of GTAV no less.

I don't think it would change much, the "vocal minority" would remain just a vocal minority.

MGS4 won twice for a reason, & I'm willing to bet that it will win a third time if there was another recount.

I still can't believe that so many mobile games got places as high as they did.

I still can't believe mobile has games that are BETTER than consoles and PCs at times. It's crazy! I for one think it is an exciting prospect when done right.
