Phillip W. Spencer III:"Xbox’s aim with Call of Duty is to give players choice, not "do slimy platform things" that make one option more appealing."

It was a toggle in the game client that was there during the Xbox betas but removed at launch. It was client functionality they removed.
And you think that's because of PS exclusivity because? Why did Gears force crossplay (and remove the option) with an update too do you think. The beta likely showed them that people couldn't find a match in some regions with crossplay disabled.

Philip Mortimer Biden strikes again with his big mouth. I swear these guys just think they have whatever pursue momentum they think they have and they can say whatever they want. As if people don't have a memory of their current status and track record. Let the games do the talking and keep your mouth shut as always.

Definitely Sony's fault that Xbox can't get their shit together when it comes to cross play.
L take if ever I've seen one.

First of all, the issue was tied to Activision ID, so it was account level with the game. If your Activision account is tied to PSN, you can turn it off, not so on Xbox, because of the "feature" being exclusive to PS on console. Has nothing to do with global level Xbox cross platform abilities whatsoever.

Annnnnd lest we forget, it was Microsoft that spearheaded cross platform play on console to begin with, and Sony only begrudgingly complied after a very public and protracted period of being execrated by it's own community.

Doesn’t it benefit Microsoft to have call of duty on game pass while ps5 only gamers will have to pay full price for it? And that money goes to Microsoft at the end of the day

Phil the good guy lies so much he actually believe what he says. Also, with all the lies and spins that he has been doing, this guy gives zero fuck or respect to the people that buy his products. To him, the so call gamers are a bunch of idiots who will believe and defend whatever bullshit he spits out.

Home girl. The PS2 and PC had crossplay.
Are you seriously trying to ignore what they did for an entire console generation and a half after that, or did you leave off the "on console" portion when quoting me for "reasons"?

This is a thread about CoD and cross platform parity, in case you hadn't noticed.

Xbox had their own policy that prevented cross platform until they removed/revised it. They didn’t wanna play nice while they lead during the 360 era. They didn’t get FFXIV because of said policy. During Xbox one gen the losers then “spearheaded” the cross platform movement on console?

Hahahahahhahajahahahahahahahah, fuck outta here.

This also a thread about slimey platform things, in case you hadn’t noticed.

Massive corporations are gross, and they all play dirty, we are speaking about events with decades in between them, if it's not in good faith about the topic at hand, then it's down to semantics if you're just warring.

Not exactly.

Final Fantasy XI was cross console platform on Xbox 360, it was the way FFIV didn't work with the nightmare of Games for Windows Live on the pc side of things, not their unwillingness to have cross platform support. It was a broken system that briefly impacted a handful of games in regards to cross platform, RIP Champions Online. Prior to Fortnite, it was only MMO's this affected, let's get real here. Once they ironed this out in the subsequent years, they have tried to open up cross platform...platform wide.

Sony was never pushing for this, it was Square, and their relationship with them is what led them to bend to it to begin with, and it was Epic that broke their stance, and I provided receipts on that.

And is the reason we weren't allowed cross console multiplayer during seventh gen. Were it not for their bullshit 360 would have even had crossplay with a sixth gen console thanks to FFXI being on PS2.

Completely false. FFXI DID have cross console play on Xbox 360. Please read the whole thread.

At the end of the day regardless of Xbox & Sony being slimy at times in the past, I am happy this is what they are doing with CoD, I mean it being on Gamepass is a win for me personally, means more of my friends will hop on the game from Day 1 as well.

Fucking Sony.

Pretty sure Microsoft is positioning themselves to sue Sony in the context of a gatekeeper under European law and draw precedent on recent FTC tech antitrust stuff in the US.

If they can’t win as a platform then there won’t be platforms.

You guys are bitching about Xbox exclusive DLC and map packs from 15 years ago, and about Ultimate Team Legends from 10 years ago. :pie_eyeroll:

The only thing “comical” are people who refuse to acknowledge the past so they can bend over backwards to give Microsoft leadership a handy.

Microsoft started these “slimy platform things” when they introduced the concept of buying timed exclusive DLC for Multiplatform games. When the PS4 became top dog at launch, Activision naturally went where the money was and Sony played by the very rules Microsoft themselves created.

Microsoft doesn’t get to turn around now and bitch and moan about their own methods being used against them. And Xbox sycophants don’t get to hide behind “it was 15 years ago!”. Doesn’t matter how long it was, “slimy platform things” are entirely Microsoft’s doing.

It seems like everyone recognizes who was doing shady business practices all along. It wasn't a issue when Sony had exclusivity rights.
The original SlimShady business practices. You can't cry about practices you (Phil) benefited (and pioneered) from years later. Thankfully, the internet never loses receipts or forgets as easily as the X-diehards.

He has a point. It doesn't get more scummy than keeping a character off other platforms like Sony did with Spider-Man in that Avengers game. That's the lowest of the low. Probably hugely hurt that game too.

It being a shit game hurt it far more than not having a throwaway Spiderman mission

Plus he’d like to actually sell some units to pay for this boondoggle of his and NOONE buys anything MS publishes when you can play it for “free” on gamepass

Gamepass day and date will go down as one of the DUMBEST decisions in gaming history
Great for gamers.

I’ll let MS bean counters at head office worry about whether MS’ $80 billion profit per year can subsidize GP downloads.

Enjoy the service and value. And not MS balance sheets.
