How do you do it, Loki? You're extremely self concious yet you seem like a happy guy.

Like I said, it's a paradox. :) I really have no idea; I tell my sister that it's funny, because I'm both the most confident (as in "truly confident", not as in "pompous ass who thinks he has more than he really has") and the most insecure person you'll ever meet, as hard as that is to believe.

By "self-conscious", I don't mean that I don't like to be seen in public, or that I'm not sociable, or anything of that nature-- it mostly has to do with my weight, and it doesn't really affect my behavior around people. But even when I'm 200 pounds (in the summers), which is my normal weight, and even when I used to be 190 with a six-pack in HS and the first couple of years of college, there were always those niggling doubts tucked away in the back of my mind. It's very odd, really. Sometimes I think that it's because I was heavy and pretty ugly actually during the middle-to-end of elementary school. My teeth were all messed up (I had braces for many years later on), I was heavy (like lots of kids go through a "chunky" stage, not obese or anything), and I generally looked like ass. If you saw a picture of me from fourth grade and then saw me now, you wouldn't believe it was the same person. :P Perhaps it's just a holdover from way back when in that sense, I dunno.

But I'm generally quite content, yeah. I really have no reason not to be, to be honest. My "self-consciousness" doesn't really "manifest itself" anywhere except in my head-- I can hold a conversation with either sex just fine, I tend to joke around a lot with people in real life, and I speak well in front of large groups. Hell, I was a waiter for nearly 9 years, and six of those at a very "socially-oriented" restaurant where we were encouraged to entertain and speak with the customers-- so if there's one thing I can do, it's shoot the shit. :P My self-consciousness shows itself in more peculiar ways, however, such as that in the spring/summer, if there's a strong breeze blowing towards me, I'll subtly hold my shirt out in front of me a bit so it doesn't cling to my stomach. Weird, right? And this is the time of year when I barely even have a stomach. Oh, and I'll generally only dance in public after I have a few drinks. :D

I dunno...it's just a quirk, I guess. I don't mind it, though-- it helps to keep me grounded. :) And we all have our idiosyncrasies; at least I can own up to mine. :D I don't take pictures because what I see in the pics is usually not what I see when I look in the mirror for some reason-- the pictures tend to look a good deal worse; some of that is in my head, obviously, but others have also said that I look a lot better in real life (i.e., that I'm not "photogenic"), so who knows... :P

Nitewulf, your last pic is the one that looks most similar to the pic in your avatar. You were wearing your hair differently then, yes? :)

well, i have been keeping my hair short for the past few years. i go to my neighbourhood barber, and she knows exactly how i cut it.
you know how it is in brooklyn!
so anyway, in the avatar picture my hair is just spiked up with gel and these pictures i just took now have untouched hair.
but it's pretty much the same hair cut, size 3 on sides and back, size 4 on top and a row of longer hair on front.

just took this with my webcam, going for the rugged look - or so i am told.

Nitewulf, you look a lot like my little brother in those pics. It's a combination of him looking very old for his age (he's 16, but looks about 22 at least...most people think he's the older one), and you looking very young for your age. :p

(You're in your mid-late twenties, right?)

(Just messing with you. :D)

24, getting pretty old :/

There's a bit of Rowan Atkinson in Nitewulf, especially the very last photo.

It must be something in the water in the old continent... :p

Wow, a good picture of nitewulf too. I gotta trade in my face for an upgrade one of these days...
heh, there is absolutely nothing wrong with your face. you posted an older picture before and you are a good looking guy. the baldness actually fits!
on top of that you are so intelligent and well read that, if you also looked like brad pitt (or insert default generic handsome male here), the rest of us males would be out of business. :D

yeah he looks a bit like ben, and in his older picture he looked like akira from vf4, i think saturnman made that comparison.

holy cow, i think i actually see what you're talking about. and bean is pretty cool, so i'm ok with that! although jonny english was soooo aweful...

Hey, don't make us 26 year olds-- or, worse, 30 year olds <looks -jinx-'s way> :P -- feel any older than we already do. :D

Loki=Ben Affleck?

:lol

Hah. I don't know if you were kidding or not, but I do get that a lot in real life. I used to get that dude from "Party of Five" a lot as well when I was younger (Scott Wolf, I believe). :P

Dude, there are enough women out there for all of us-- don't be so eager to concede all the poon to -jinx- ! :D

I look nothing like Akira. Saturnman (in typical Canadian fashion :P) was just trying to make me look "insane", and the VF4 cover, with that crazy looking Akira face plus flames in the background, fit the bill. I think he called it "VF4: Loki's Psychosis" or some such lol. :D

Loki, you have that intense, POed look in many of your photos. I don't even have to alter your facial expressions. They speak for themselves.

Yes, that's because for me, taking pictures is usually an unpleasant experience, and I am generally pissed off that I have to take them. :) That's also why I don't smile in pics. :D

Ben Affleck? Pah. He looks more like Christian Bale in American Psycho.

I think it's the blank expression. ;) I look nothing like Christian Bale in real life (or at least nobody's ever said as much, whereas I get Affleck all the time).

In any case, you must be proud of yourself, Loki. You've nearly derailed this topic and got an entire OAS topic devoted entirely to you. :)

Gash Prex used to turn heads, now, he is ignored when he posts a new photo. The power of LOKI.

Yes, because I really posted my first pics in nearly 5 years (passing up dozens of "OMG POST YOUR PICS!!1" threads during that time) to "get attention". <rolleyes> Yeah, I'm really "proud" (wtf?) of myself for posting a pic, of all things. :lol This is really how I get my jollies lol.

Come now, Sman-- surely they taught you better reasoning skills than that in those superior Canadian schools. :D

I am just saying that, with your sudden change of heart in posting new photos of yourself, you must not regret it. People are talking about you, in a good way over here (no one is even saying anything about the 'mug shot') and some taking pot shots in another forum. Feedback is always nice and you have an opportunity to reply to much of it and you do like to post replies.

You're a bit of a white Alan Keyes, you like attention and talking about yourself. Admit it. No shame in that. Some people take it to the stage, you, on the other hand, prefer the relative safety of forums. :)

If you insist, Saturnman. I will not deny that I like to talk-- but talking about myself? I only do that when it's appropriate to the topic at hand, and considering how frequently I post, it's quite rare. Number of topics I've started about my life in 5+ years? Zero. Number of topics others have posted about their lives? Too many to count. Seems that you're being a bit selective in your "criticism", eh?

As for me "liking attention", well, that's totally false; in fact, I go away from attention in real life (i.e., I don't engage in "attention-seeking behaviors" and when I get attention in real life, I do not embrace it but rather usually downplay it-- if you must know). I think that any rational, intelligent individual would wonder why I haven't posted pics in 4-5 years if I so desired "attention"; then again, you're behaving neither rationally nor intelligently. It's ok, I won't hold it against you-- you have to save face after that whole health care thing. :)

Now scurry back up to Canada (or at least OA) and please desist with the unfounded insults (and basically calling someone an attention-whore when it's clear that they're not is an insult).

But you're a bit like Catzgirl, when your name is uttered (or your post touched/quoted), you will appear (though she posts less in forums nowadays so it's less true). :)

Vanity and the desire to impress is not just about looks, it's also about who you are, what you can do and how it is projected. Your posts are like your babies, meticulously constructed, you say it's your desire to be thorough, but you've got to wonder if you really need to be that thorough. You know, among artists, there's often that same desire to show off, even if you don't necessarily make a spectacle of every artwork you do.

If you were truly completely modest and anonymous, it's likely you'd just be a lurker here and wouldn't feel the need to address every post mentionning you and every one of your quoted posts.

That's my brief analysis of the Loki psyche. :)

What insipid psychoanalysis. Should I respond? Well, if I do so, it will have to be with one of my "babies", so I guess I'm screwed either way, right? :lol

As for responding when I'm mentioned, it's usually only when I'm being insulted (at OA, for example), or when I'm just kidding around with people who've said something about me in good fun; when quoted, it's because things I say are sometimes taken out of context and, yes, I have to clarify. When people mention my name here, I seldom respond-- do a search, for all I care; try to find threads I was not already involved in where, once someone mentioned my name, I became involved in the thread.

And when did I ever say that I was "completely anonymous", or that I desired to be so? I don't-- I'm part of a discussion forum here, and we discuss things. If I just wanted to read, I'd read a book, no? They're better written than anything here, at least, including my own posts. As for "modesty", well, I'm not sure how that fits in to what you're saying. If I posted a thread whose title was (hypothetically-- I don't believe this :P) "Drinky Crow is a tard", and he responded, does that make him immodest? Is it "immodest" to want to speak to slander and correct possible misrepresentations of my opinions by others? No, that's not immodest, that's common sense, and anyone with half a brain could see that. But I obviously couldn't have asked that much of you, could I...

Incidentally, if I really wanted to tear your "argument" to pieces, I'd ask you for evidence of this so-called "immodesty" on my part, links and all. But I'm not cruel, Sman, and so I will let the more rational among us decide for themselves whether I have acted "immodestly" herein or elsewhere based on my typical conduct. I hope you realize, however, that you're basically "reading meaning" into my actions, as all I did is post my pic (first time in 5 years) and you then proceeded to launch into some spiel about my purported "vanity". Whatever dude...

In terms of my posts, I will not deny that I desire to express my opinions to my fullest potential, in as much detail as I (not you, not anyone else) see fit, as I feel that they're important enough to be given expression (as is everybody else's opinion-- I can't write their posts for them, however :P). That's no sin; please don't take out the frustration you feel due to the fact that the majority of your opinions are so ill-considered and superficial as to not merit a thorough explication on little old me. My thought is nuanced; yours, not so, as evidenced by the quality of your "reasoning" in this very thread. I am comforted by the fact that anyone with a functioning frontal lobe will be able to see what you have done here, and how specious it is.

Please desist, or I won't be so kind next time. This is the second time you've started in with me now for no good reason. The type of utter nonsense you've introduced to this thread has no place here, and you're well aware of that fact. It's indicative of the type of man you are that you felt it incumbent upon yourself to take pot shots at me, but I suppose that was to be expected. And yes, I do need to be "that" thorough, because I have a lot to say and am very opinionated, not to "show off". If it bothers you that much, petition the mods to limit posts to 500 words; until then, kindly be quiet.

Apparently, you only believe in Occam's Razor when it suits you-- for everything else (namely, my posting habits), you construct these elaborate and implausible theories that only serve to make you look like a dunce. Bravo, Saturnman.

I guess I've never spelled it correctly. One of those things where I've seen it a million times but it never clicks. I am really ashmed.

Chill out, Loki. It's just a forum. No need to take things personally.

If you don't want me to "take things personally", then it's generally a good idea to refrain from personal attacks-- but I guess no one ever taught you that. Try to do that with anyone else here (anyone who posts substantially and makes well-reasoned posts) and see how far you get; I've only indulged you as far as I have because, frankly, I pity someone who would attempt to insult me-- a person who has never had anything but kind words for people here. It's childish on your part, and it was beneath me to even respond to it, though I did so anyway. It was really uncalled for and has no place here.

I've said my piece.

There you go, dellusions of self-importance. This is just a forum and I am just a poster, just like you are. Though it's moderated, it's not high society. It's a place to debate, to goof off and heck, maybe even for some wet towel fights.

Imagine going for a drink with a few buddies and while sharing one of your stories about your dating life, one friend calls you a liar and that you should stop making stuff up. If you'd get upset and start raving about daring to insult your character and you will not tolerate anymore of this sort of behavior, you'd probably be met with stunned silence mixed in with laughter. No, the correct response among guys in informal settings is to laugh it off or to respond in kind.

That's what amazes about you, Loki. On the surface, it seems you can play the game, but you're much more sensitive than you let on. At OAS, you can keep a brave face and absorb neverending attacks, but here, you take offense over trivial comments. And now don't take this very paragraph as another 'personal attack'.

P.S. Nrxic would disagree with the 'nothing but kind words' part. ;)
