Is Playseat the best in terms of price and reliability. The $600 option with the G27 seems like a good deal or am I being bamboozled here? I need a sim guru's help with this. I'm like an arcade stick dude, not this.

Fanatec CSL is the best seating option for 300$ in the known universe. Playseat can't come close by any detail.

You can buy separate G27 for the rest of the money.

PS4 gamers - I really love racers of all stripes, is this worth getting? I see a lot of nit-picking about stuff that generally doesn't bother me - AF, frame drops - but the on thing that does is the screen tearing.

How noticeable is it? I don't really mind a slice of sky at the top of the screen, but bits of car floating around the track is going to annoy me greatly.

I really want this as complement to DC and a stop-gap for GT7, so impression from PS4 owners only please.

In a word, yes.

If you are prepared to spend a little time tweaking, it's well worth it.

There is a ton of content, and once you get it setup right, it's a complete blast.

The only place I can notice tearing is on Brands Hatch, the only place I notice the lack of AF is Willow springs.

I personally am slightly disappointed with the visuals, replays look nasty, hockenheim is particularly ugly, and the photo mode is really poor.

Is this real life?

First party reasons for not allowing a server browser has to be completely wrong. We've had them since launch with games like Battlefield 4.

Good gravy, I like the formula B but it spoils you especially when you change to the Ford Escort (so much left foot braking) and the Mercedes 190 (just dares me to over throttle midturn).

Right now I am set to amateur. I changed my setting to have only ABS on and AI set to 65.

Hang on, there is no multiplayer browser in the XB1 version?

Bizarre!

Why is the setup system so bad? What's the point of having per track setups when the global "all" setup is loaded automatically on every track?

This wouldn't be so bad if you could actually load a setup in a session, but you can't!!! FFS!

So far, I think it's absolutely worth it. Yes it's a touch unpolished here and there, and needs a bit of tinkering, but it's also highly feature, settings and content rich, with tonnes of play for your money. The game is very well paced, fun, detailed, and has a highly rewarding driving model and physics engine. It also looks very pretty, and the vehicles sound fantastic. I haven't sunk enough time in to it to form any final judgements yet, but all I'll say is that the whole thing feels a little more serious than console sims like Forza or GT, but the price you pay for that is slightly less accessibility That's not necessarily a completely bad thing mind, especially if you want the game to serve as a compliment to Driveclub.

Regarding screen tearing, after about 4 hours of play, I've probably only noticed it maybe twice, so basically it's a non issue.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the replies, especially from 1 mad-keen DC racer, and another who knows his driving onions.

Really looking forward to Snetterton and Donnington now :)

Came out of the pits yesterday at Donnington and a car exiting the pits at the same time drove THROUGH ME like an invincible power-up.

The mechanics are good in this game and it has the basis of a really stellar title, but at the moment it's a glitch fest par excellence.

I'm loving my time in the GT classes but am seriously thinking about parking this game up until the Fanatec options (PS4) are patched. I want rid of the deadzone, I want access to the full suite of FFB options and I want my button configs to be saved. SMS and Fanatec are apparently meeting this week to action these issues so I might just wait a while and come back to it.

Side note: The Ginetta G4s are terrific fun (seriously - try them) but there's something very wrong with the LOD. Rear lights always look octagonal in a race, even up very close.

Had a couple of weird bugs today on ps4, first there was no engine sound from my car as I left pits, secondly during the start of the race in the grid, nothing happened, no lights or nothing, just stationary on the grid. In both cases a restart fixed it.

I'll be honest nearly all the cars are epic to drive, only found one so far I didn't like, the McLaren MP4 GT, man, that's a boring car to drive.

Another bug, car goes to grid with the Motec gear display in another gear than neutral.

Man checking out the Fanatec website. How are their wheels? They are damn pricey, but they look better built than the G27. Are Fanatec devices working properly on PC?

I noticed a few pages back that some people were wondering why sometimes the tyres were at a warm temperature at the start of races and after pitstops. This is done to simulate how some racing categories use tyre warmers. Only very few motorsports have outright banned them, so their implementation in the game is pretty spot on.

I'm still using the old Porsche 911 Turbo S with Clubsport pedals and hasn't let me down!

I find the Ginetta G4s hit a great sweet-spot between speed and handling. They are just fast enough to be exciting but not too fast to lead to unavoidable collisions. Maybe due to these factors the AI in the baby Ginettas is superb. The races are always fair, close, thrilling and epic.

1% is the highest setting I think. It's the amount of slip it will allow before kicking in. Ideally you would have it at 100% but the max is 15. I found on the magane that the car wouldn't turn till I set it to 15% then the car finally produced some over steer

Are we confirming that there are built in aids that can't be disabled here?
Or is this more of a differential setting?

Does this happen even when you turn the aid settings to off instead of real?

I noticed this in my ruf on real settings. Even on 15% almost no wheel spin is allowed. On the old Mercedes though, I couldnt for the life of me keep it in a straight line - with the same settings.

Fairly happy now with how the XB1 controller is set up.
Hot lapping around Brno in a Formula C car is so good.

That track just flows.

I personally have an Obutto oZone and have done for a few years now. I have it with the triple monitor mounts too. While it is a very handy cockpit, it really falls by the wayside in quality control. Some of the plates used in the monitor mounts don't fit properly and because of that my monitors don't even line up. There are a few other little issues I have but the good thing about it is the usability in more than just sim racing, where a lot of cockpits limit you to the things you can do. I particularly like the keyboard swivel arm, it's very handy.

Thinking about it more, I think the setting tells the game when to activate traction control, setting it higher means a greater slip ratio is allowed before the TC enables. Therefore I think when you turn TC off the setting shouldn't make a difference.

Yeah, that's how it should work, but does it?
I'm always driving with "real" aids, but I'm curious if turning it off really means it off in all cars.

Bizarre!

This honestly baffles me. I always get dropped in a random session when I'm trying to search for something specific. It's not like I can refine the search options that much either. Really feel like I've got a cut down version here on XB1.

Has any user posted PS4 screenshots yet? I've been playing Driveclub all weekend to get into a racing mood and I just wanted to get a general idea of how good this game looks.

It makes no sense to me that the PS4 version has server browser, but not the XB1 version.

It's a mixed bag.

I prefer the "in race" graphics to DC, as it's got more realism, but replays, at least on the PS4 version, are pretty ugly.

I love the G4, as you say it's one of those cars with a perfect combination of attributes.

Talking as a someone who knows the nuances of Donington GP and Cadwell Park having done many track days there I just want to endorse the game's realism for those in doubt. Aside from some FFB issues which I'm still in the process of tweaking, the behaviour of the cars around the same corners and undulations is very, very close. I'm approaching the corners in the same gear as I would in real life with similar cars, and almost to a T making the same mistakes/gaining ground in exactly the same spots. Only slight question mark is the cars can sometimes feel too easily provoked in wet conditions, I'm having to be more careful with the throttle on my G27.

Whatever people want to say about the game's failures though, they've got the most important bits of this game right.

No idea, although I know they had to cut the "real world" weather option from the console versions because there was some restriction to them polling servers from outside the "walled garden" of PSN/XBL, so maybe there is something in it........

Some tracks look better than others, but the jitter bug kills the replays at the moment. It'll hopefully be patched soon.
Hehe, jitter bug indeed!

Yes, some are better than others, anyone wanting to see just how bad the graphics are at some, and maybe some will do a screengrab, just run a replay at Hockenheim, holy moly it's bad.

Hmmm, it seems particularly odd (or an oversight) that the PS4 version can have a lobby browser where the XB1 can't have anything at all. Something should have at least been implemented before launch.

That is insane! How did this game get released and not get hammered for huge shortcomings like this?

Most reviews were of the PC or PS4 version.

I only think there was one XB1 specific review and it also happened to be low, with a 7/10.

A 7 with literally no multiplayer, that's crazy, how can a "sim" not let you pick what race you want to join online.... It seems like lots of shortcomings/lack of polish have been shoved under the rug.

Yeah, that's how it should work, but does it?
I'm always driving with "real" aids, but I'm curious if turning it off really means it off in all cars.

Can't trust the programming so would need confirmation or some sort of tests to be run.

I've really started to enjoy this game now. Initial impressions were dreadful as driving with the controller was near impossible. Updating both Xbox One pads and then re-installing has made a huge difference. It's now extremely playable on the defaults.

I've been working on the career starting with the Karts. Just got invited to my first invitational racing BMW's in the rain and easily the most impressive race so far.

Here's a small snip from that...
