PS4 Firmware 2.50 (Yukimura) coming March 26

I thought it was that they didn't pay for the CD license?

That's the other theory that was going around. I'm not sure how big a deal it is, since Sony owns half the CD patents, and nearly all of them are long expired anyway. There's two that are still active from Philips but at least one of them is probably non-essential since it wasn't even filed until 1998. But I'm sure Sony, of all companies, has some sort of patent cross-licensing agreement with Phillips in regards to CDs anyway.

AFAIK the PS4 drive hardware is literally not capable of reading CD-ROMS. PS1 discs and audio CDs will never be supported.

I thought Text to speech was coming in this update. Can't find it in Accesibility settings.Saw
a screenshot where it was above the zoom option but it isn't there for me
It's there.

What's your system language? There's a note on Text to Speech that it only works when the system is set to English (US), maybe the option doesn't appear when the system is set to another language.

I don't really understand why 'Enter Rest Mode' is listed twice in the Quick Menu, once in the top level and once under 'Power Options'. I wondered for a second if it were two different Rest Modes configurations (maybe one with Suspend/Resume off).

So remapping is a universal thing that applies to all games, right? You can't customize it per game so you don't have to constantly swap around, correct?

More importantly, can you remap games while remote playing on the Vita? It would do wonders for the shoulder buttons if you could.

English UK.Just changed it to US but still did not appear.Hope i can get it to work my brother suffers from an extreme form of word blindness and this would be so useful for him

Yeah, I had to do a double take and read both (identical) descriptions for Rest Mode.

So can i transfer all my applications and game data to an external hard drive which is connected to my PS4 and boot them from there?

Wouldn't have any way to indicate that it was on at all.

Well it wouldn't work when you tried to use it, so I'd hope people are smart enough to figure out it's turned off. Also, Sony forces a damn notification on your TV to let you know it turned off. Gee thanks. Don't think I could figure that out. What would I ever do without that forced notification popping up while I watch Netflix?

It's more that you wouldn't know if it was left on, draining the battery while not in use.

Soon enough a lot of PS4 users are going to wonder how they went without this feature for so long :)

I've rarely used it on XB1, but it came in handy one time when I was playing Forza 5 and I had to leave, but I didn't want to start the race over later. I put the Xbox One in suspend and shut it down, and came back later and picked right back up where I left it. It was pretty awesome.

Did this patch reintroduce the rest mode bug? My PS4 is refusing to boot up, it's just glowing blue and doing nothing. It did the same thing a few updates back and I had to stop putting it in rest mode until they fixed it.

Anyone know if this update makes it where if your internet cuts out for a minute in rest mode, downloads will restart once it comes back up? I have slow internet and mostly download things overnight. Annoying as hell waking up with barely anything downloaded because my internet crapped out for a minute.

Is SharePlay broken? It's saying that my 40mbps download speed and 4mbps upload speed is not fast enough for SharePlay. What the heck? That should be more than enough. I actually have a 100mbps, but the PS4 throttles the connection anyway.

Also, what does the drop shadow option for text do? I tested it out and didn't notice any difference.

Seems like a bug. Happening for me too.

Still can't access the PSN Store after playing a game and the "What's New" section also isn't loading.....I can't believe this problem still exists since launch.

Update woes/PSA...

If you already updated your PS4 to 2.50 and are trying to install a brand new HDD.. don't bother yet.. sony hasn't updated the new system installation file (it's supposed to be 700+ MB, not the 300 MB file). Because of this the PS4 expects a 2.50 system install file which sony hasn't provided yet in their firmware page... it's still displaying the old file.

I wasted 2 hours figuring this out.. only to find it wasn't my fault and it wasn't a bad HDD.

Fix your fucking links Sony. I hope I save someone time...

I didn't realize this, but a pic is taken when you get a trophy now. That's pretty neat. I'd post a pic, but it's only done it later on in Bloodborne.

Just check out your trophies if you've gotten any today.

It's getting worse...

I bought the Complete Edition of Life is Strange. With 2.5 when I select the item in the XMB I have the option to "Start", "Start Demo" and "Buy". What is this? Fix this Guerilla!

To clarify, this isn't for every country. I did this yesterday and the uk one is up. On my phone so I can't link it but if you go to the uk playstation support page for ps4 the correct file is there

How does suspend work on the XB1, from your description it sounds like you have to manually choose to suspend a game?

Because once you check the option in the PS4 settings you don't have to think about it every time you turn off the console. The current game will always be suspended unless you manually quit the application before you shut down the PS4. I think this should help the feature to get more use because you will get more and more used to having your games ready just like you left them.

btw it's also neat that you can suspend/resume a game and an app at the same time.

I have a question about the new automatic firmware install option, I guess that doesn't mean they will push future update downloads? (would create a traffic spike)
The firmware updates always come out while I'm at work and there's no way to add it to downloads like you can do with bought games from the web store (I also tried to launch the console with the Remote-Play app but I couldn't connect).

So even with rest-mode enabled (and that new automatic install setting) I still have to do the update process manually once I'm home, I would prefer to come home and have everything ready already.
(similar situation with game patches that also only get checked&downloaded once per night, but it's less likely that I will play exactly that game that got a patch a few hours before)
