PT no longer downloadable in US (and EU/UK) even with license

I was always hoping they would port PT to Xbox when it released, I'll probably own a PS4 sooner or later, but sucks I won't be able to play this.
Should I cancel my MGSV preorder?

NO! Kojima most likely gets paid on how well the game sells, boycott the next MGS game and all other Konami games if you wish.

Not surprised either. English Mother 1 is probably the rarest though, probably like 4 copies in existence and I think 2 are locked up at NoA.

The thing is, you can emulate an NES, or SNES and still play mother, maybe not legally, but you can still play it, and billions of other people can too.

Until the PS4 is emulated and PT dumped, the only people that can play it are those with it on their PS4's.

I appreciate that - but it's not a thing anyone here can lay claim to. It was a free service provided by a corporation. I'll let the Konami apologists defend the crown but the mass hysteria over this in the thread is a little frightening.

You're like the internet made flesh. It's beautiful.

paid stuff has been removed from the store before, a load of japanese ps1 classics were delisted and delete from the psn list a couple years ago

Which?

Sadly you are wrong. Read your license of use terms.

For free content, certainly, though it's overall somewhat unlikely that (even in the US, with notoriously copyright-ignorant courts) the terms in PSN's EULA would override your right to access content you've provided consideration (i.e. paid) for, if the chips were really down. Besides a generic "it's your responsibility to download the content while it's up" the PSN EULA doesn't really provide much cover for the idea that individual pieces of paid content can be revoked without warning.

Is there any reason to support Konami at this point? I've added them to the list of publishers I'm not giving money to.

Well, it's not like they publish videogames anymore.

Hosting content on the store doesn't cost any money, they're just doing it to spite and stop people from playing it.

Unless they changed the policy, Sony charges publishers for bandwidth usage. So yes, it technically does cost Konami money to have this still up.

I'm glad I have this game on my PS4! And I'm sad for those who will not be able to experience it!

Even I that am not the biggest fan of horror games played it till the end with friends and almost shitting in my pants. It was amazing and extrmely immersive! A piece of art indeed. A shame that Konami is doing that!

Ugh, I wasn't even super interested in PT but this has made me really sad. It wasn't so bad when it was still downloadable but the idea that a piece of gaming history - a game that many regarded to be among the best horror titles - is now just gone for the majority of people makes me really sad inside.

I wonder if someone that has it on their library could use PSX Download Helper and the .pkg obtained elsewhere to redownload it. Assuming a library removal isn't coming too, that is.

I feel sorry for the people who won't be able to play this. Full game or not, P.T. is the only experience that has ever truly frightened me, and it was memorable for it. Watching someone else play it on the Internet isn't even close to the experience of playing it yourself.

I'm glad I didn't delete it.

If you have PT on your PS4 hard drive, use the PS4 Backup Utility RIGHT NOW and you should be able to maintain the game indefinitely even if your HDD fails in the future. Regular Backups are a good idea anyway, but now its a requirement now thanks to Konami

You say that like physical demo discs haven't been a thing in the past. I've got one right here in my room, Monster Hunter 3 for Wii. There's also one for Final Fantasy XII around here somewhere.

I know back in the PS1,PS2 (Wii) era, physical demos were a thing but a game like this wouldnt be possible in that hardware/gen so its moot to be like "physical media ftw!". Only thing we could of hoped for was a PC release of this demo. Physical or otherwise :(

I have a funny feeling that they're desperately trying to figure out a way to revoke licenses and remotely delete the game from every system that already has it downloaded.

The fuck did Kojima do to them? It's one thing to sever ties, it's like they're trying to erase him and everything he ever touched.

Not just him. You don't need a gaming history to begin with if your no longer in video games. I'll bet that by this time next year Konami will have shuttered a majority, if not most of their gaming divisions to focus on their gambling casino ponzi scheme

Damn that's a shame, I thought having it on my library would be enough. I never knew they could pull a game off like that.

MGS5 will probably be the last Konami game I buy.

I dunno I'm PRETTY sure back when Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 was a thing that they ended up pulling the DLC for that thing even if you paid for it. I could be horribly wrong on that account but I remember seeing stuff on Kotaku pop up about that at one point.

I hope when Kojima finally leaves this shit company he does a tell all and describes what happened there.

If they want to get out of gaming, then fine. But not even allowing us to re download things from the marketplace that we have a license for? Thats some sketchy ass business practices

Wow... we'll actually be able to sell our PS4s with pre-loaded PT demos for hundreds of dollars some day.

Have delisted games ever been removed from "redownload lists" on any of the post-digital-distribution consoles, or is this the first instance?

They've already shuttered the majority of their gaming divisions, and their casino machines business is hugely profitable.

I will never forgive Konami for this. I never played P.T.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Now someone just needs to pull it apart and reverse engineer it into FOX Engine for Phantom Pain PC.

The only thing scarier than PT is not getting the chance to play it ever.

I asked this before with no answer. Is there any way to save full games/demos externally in the PS4 like you could on the 360 with a usb or external hard drive? If I could keep this game in a flash drive, safe from whatever future update that wipe my games clean, I'd be happy.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Is there any chance at all that all this could be an elaborate pre-E3 epic Kojima troll?

The import PS1 games put out on US PSN by MonkeyPaw were removed from download lists after they were delisted.

Someone in another thread claimed they were put back, but I haven't been able to find any concrete info on that.

Sure, but there's nothing stopping publishers from printing demo discs on current consoles, digital is just cheaper and provides the ability to remove your demo from the system completely if your company is run by people with the emotional stability of your average thirteen year old.

The truly sad thing is, that Konami will likely succeed as a degenerate slot machine company, and at least remain stable... instead of folding and being forced to sell all their ip to hypothetical "good" devs/pubs. They'll keep slapping logos and character art on machines, sitting on ips forever, and making any money they can off suing people like Atari does now.

Huh it's right there in the Eula. And even when I download free games I still "purchase" it for $0.00 as the email I recieve tells me

If you downloaded it before it got pulled, you should be able to re-download it from your library. Heck, it still should show up in your purchased games list on Sony's website.

This thread is nine pages long, have you not ready anything on any of them?

Maybe it was legal ramifications of leaving a demo up of a canceled project with Del Toro and Reedus?

I dunno any more. After MGSV I might be done w/Konami for good.

No.

Things have progressed much too far.

If you do something like this, you do it AFTER MGSV, to hype up Silent Hills. All that is happening right now is damaging MGSV sales.

They're already succeeding. Much moreso than their videogame division, which is why all this is happening in the first place.
