I to my surprise, received my free Gear VR last night. I really digging it.

One of the first videos I wanted to check out was SuperHyperCube... But then I realized you cant see any YouTube vids. So I had to look up what exactly I needed to do in order to view it and got it working via MilkVR app.

Are there any other great 360 videos I should check out?

I jut tried out that unity chan demo from the store. lol. Goodbye real world indeed. Finally anime waifus in real laifu.

I showed my sister the Jurassic park demo too and she literally started scrambling backwards in her seat and freaking out when the dinosaur got up close haha

"OK Google, remind me to download my new waifu when I get home."

"I...I....I was going to set a reminder anyways, it's not like I did this for you Senpai! Baka!"

Anyone else having motion sickness issues with this? I was playing dread halls earlier today and got really sick.

The one thing to give me motion sickness so far is the star wars jakku experience thing. Its fucking amazing, but it moves so fast i felt awful using it. To be honest i really dont see mself playing games with this. I like the interactive video experiences cause i can dip in an out of them, but using for a gaming session would just wreck my eyes i think

Is there a Star Wars VR experience for the GEAR?

The YouTube part of the Samsung Internet app tends to not do a good job with side by side video, even ones that should work it's like the images are not aligned right at all. And it doesn't have an option for the top and bottom SBS 3D videos. I hope YouTube gets a proper app, but I fear Google are holding out so they can push this stuff on their own VR solutions.

I tried the above app to allow me to use cardboard, and while the motion tracking and refresh rate isn't that great there's some good stuff on the Google side. Cardboard Camera is seriously impressive at letting you create your own pretty high quality 3D 360 photos. Their solution seems to negate a huge rig although it obviously takes a while and only works for static scenes, but still I was impressed it created a similar sense of scale to real life, everyone should try it out and create your own VR photos! Shame this stuff isn't native to Gear VR, I hope it happens eventually.

There are stickers.

Remember to adjust the focus with your wheel too though.

I got an email that my submission for the free Gear VR was approved, but it says estimated shipping as 4/30. That's cray. What has everyone's experience been with actual shipping time from when they received their approval email?

So, this arrived today. Pretty cool. I last tried VR in the 90s so this is kind of a test to see if I want to delve deeper. Missing proper position tracking already - leaning in to look at something resulted in nothing :(

I don't have a controller yet, so my experiences were fairly shallow with a couple of games and some underwater tour.

I also tried porn - interesting, although not exactly "goodbye real world", which is reassuring.

So I've been messing around with the headset since this past weekend and I'm so totally hyped for everything VR. Unfortunately, my PC isn't powerful enough for the Oculus or Vive. So for now I have to settle for the PSVR, which I can't wait for.

But in the mean time, I want more!!!

I tried Lands End, Amazing! Gun Jack, pretty damn sweet! Dreadhalls, pretty f'ing scary!

I tried AltSpace VR and its damn amazing and weird at the same time. Virtual Second Life. I chatted with a few people and its cool.

But still, I want more. I want more amazing VR games, I want more social VR apps. But all that kind of stuff is probably on the official Oculus Rift. I hope Gear VR doesn't die out and developers keep supporting it.

Is there a place for news, specifically for the Gear VR?

how did you get this youtube video into MilkVR?

I downloaded the YouTube vid. You can google on how to do that.

Once its downloaded to your phone, launch the MilkVR app from the headset, go to your files and look around for it.

While watching, there's an option on what type of 3D you want to see it in. I believed 360 Mono worked best for that video.

I'm looking into extended capabilities for this and I've recently found sideloadvr which is really cool.

I'm seeing the wind waker which looks neat. I'm also very interested in Stream theater. Can anyone attest to the quality of these apps? I'll be trying WW tonight and setting up stream theater to try division.

You can access YouTube within the Samsung Internet Beta app. There are some great 360 videos out there, including The Lion King one from the OP.

Thanks guys! Just got an app and downloading videos now! Can't wait to get home and try this out.

Had my back window of my car busted in (good bye $500 bucks), and my bag stolen, which had my Gear VR in it. Been really missing it, but cant relly bring myself and my budget to pay 100 again on this.
Now if there was maybe GearVR 2, with some improvements then I might be more inclined. Have they mentioned if they plan on a new iteration? or when to expect it? I am guessing at least a year though maybe.

Mine just came in today. Stoked to spend some time with this and figure out how to watch 3D movies on it.

Question: Would downloading Youtube videos help with the quality of the video vs watching it through the YT app?
I haven't tried to download YT videos yet, but it's been pretty clear that having the video in your storage vs. streaming them makes a huge difference in quality.

Does anyone know if they fixed or any work arounds to watch movies through the sd card? Getting mine tomorrow and would like to load up some movies beforehand.

Well if you put VR movies in a folder called MilkVR on the root, you can view them easily in the MilkVR app. Not sure about 2D movies, I've never tried but I'm sure there's a way.

So I got a Samsung GearVR a couple days back. Haven't really spent too much time with it, perhaps 15 minutes in total. Really nice bit of kit but I was wondering, is there anything you guys would recommend that is free at the moment? Any good games or apps? I know MilkVR keeps getting mentioned here. I understand that's an alternative video player to the one you get with the headset itself? Where do I find this? I've had a look at the Oculus Store and I can't find it there. I'm in the UK if that helps? Would be nice to get the most out of it in terms of games and apps.

I have this paired with a Samsung Galaxy S6+ Edge.

That's the same phone I'm using. I've really only spent some time poking around with things. The MilkVR app is definitely in the Oculus store. The image may look like this:

I picked up a couple of the free games that can be played with the touchpad (I haven't gotten a gamepad for it yet). I was unimpressed with Cosmos Warfare and uninstalled it fairly quickly. Smash Hit is a free game that works real well with the touchpad.

From everything I've heard, Anshar Wars 2 is a great game, but I'm waiting to pick up a gamepad before I jump in on that one.

Are there any good walking simulators for Gear VR? Or just games/apps in general that are made to be chill as all heck?

Also what controller do people use? I just got the steelseries free and it's decent if not very small.

Just got a new gear vr but using a note 4. Had to Dremel the corners to make it fit. So far the jurassic park app was nuts. Any app I should get?

Also, what am I missing by using the note 4 opposed to say a s6?

I just grabbed VRSE, you can get a really cool short film in there called Evolution of Verse.

I have been using it a little, I'm very impressed for such a cheap price. The sense of scale and the 3D is exellent, awesome!

The resolution is quite good imo.
The big tech limitations that you notice is
-seing the pixel borders
-very limited fov
-sluggish head tracking

Will be cool to see where the tech is in 5 years.

The things I liked best were passive experiences like watching movies, especially computer rendered footage made for VR like Star Wars, The Martian and Jurassic Park. My favorite thing so far is the Jack the Ripper trailer for Assasins Creed, try that!

More gamey apps like the blue wasn't very good imo, but I haven't tried very many.

Questions:

This was designed for the S6. So what improvements using an S7 bring to the experience?

Are there any talks of a potential GearVr revision?

The sense of scale is impressive here but I don't know if it's me or due to the devices limitation, I can't really tell depth perception much. Like for instance, if I see something 20 feet away, it doesn't really feel like it's 20 feet away. Is that right?
