Looks like I'll be waiting until September

Its just a controller and they cant even make these in a reliable way.

It has no ram or storage so whats the fucking problem? Valve starting to look very incompetent lately

Mine is supposed to arrive on Monday. Got in about two seconds after the reservation system went live initially.

Yeah if I go to get one now, in the UK, it says estimated 2027. 6 month wait for a controller lmao
At least you can order. It's not available on Steam in my region so I have to wait for it to be available in stores which by the look of it seems like 2030.

I have a sneaky decision they only made 1000 units or something and waited to see if anyone cared and than making a purchase. No other reason for this long ass wait for a controller. Wait till they sell out the initial Steam Machines... 2 year wait

GAF, a lot of you seem angry about something that is out of your control.

To help with this, I'm going to let you know that I've already owned and returned the new SC. I hope that cheers you all up.

I was on the fence about it but I figured I'd reserve one. Reserved on May 11 and have an estimated order availability in 2027. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Yea fuck you too Steam. They purposefully didn't make many of these.

Mine arrived today and just tried it out, it's pretty awesome. The touchpad has some haptic feedback on my fingers that makes a big difference. I need to play with it some more but this may finally be the best of both worlds in terms of controller and K+M that I've been looking for.

I don't get it honestly. Why can't they produce them faster?
A boutique "pro" controller for a platform with a ton of choices. Hmmm

I think the opposite. There's people on eBay with multiples - they under estimated scalper culture especially when there's software you can subscribe too that scalps for you.

Ordered May 8. Arrival Sept sometime.

Is that THIS Sept?

What a joke...

If Steam Machine orders do happen next week and you reserve one, I imagine you could be easily waiting until Late 2027 to get it.

Ooooh, can't wait to get an RDNA3 PC in fucking 2028 with 8 gb of VRAM

Anyway I put my reservation in 5 days after preorders went up and I've got 2027 delivery 😂

Why has everything about this timeline just gotten worse for like the last decade?

Not worth the wait IMO
I kind of agree, because I switch between controllers. It's a very solid controller, though and the touchpads are amazing. I find myself trying to decide if I want to use this or M/K sometimes. It's a nice inbetween. It is one of the best controllers out there, and yes there are better ones, but I'd expect to pay 150-200+ for something that wipes the floor with this thing and do what it does or better.

I struggle to imagine the reasons it would take 7+ months to produce and deliver a controller. Valve really needs to step up their supply chain if they want to make it as a hardware company.

That said, it will be worth it. Don't settle for less if you want a PC controller (unless you use it exclusively wired).

Yeah, Valve fucked up here. How the hell does it take more than half a year for the manufacturing phase of a plastic thingamabob. Should've signed better contracts.

I reserved mine on May 10th, now says estimated time for delivery is 2027. Hah, get fucked Valve, I really won't care by that point.

It's clear Valves hardware strategy is a bit incompetent. Oh the hardware design is good, but whomever is managing the supply chain is not really doing a great job.

True. I've seen a better supply chain during covid.

Not incompetent at all, had mine for over a month and delivered right on time.
That's what I'm saying. Seems like they geared up for the first batch then acted surprised when more people wanted to buy one.

It's a paper launch in true PC hardware style.

What did you dislike about it?
It was an ergonomics issue. Despite (or maybe even because of) having big hands (~20cm), having index on R1, middle on R4 and ring on R5 caused too much strain because of the stretch I was having to do to between index and middle.

It's a huge shame, because I loved quite literally everything else about the controller. Very well made. Quiet shoulder buttons. I was looking forward to finding uses for the grip force. Touch pads were huge improvements over the original SC by using haptics to simulate clicks instead of the loud "clunk" of the original. Back buttons themselves felt great, too, with just the right amount of pressure needed to press to avoid accidental presses. It fixed everything I felt was wrong about the original SC.

If I thought I was going to use it enough in games that didn't have heavy R1 use but instead more touch pad for example, I'd have kept it. But I wanted it to be a primary controller for all situations, and for me it can't be that.

When I noticed the strain issue I went back to my 8bitdo Ultimate 2, which puts R4 next to R1/R2 instead. I rest my ring finger on the grip button differently (pressing more with the middle segment of the finger), and the strain issue went away immediately. Went back to SC again to see if it was just something to get over because it was new, but it happened again. Didn't want to waste £85 on something that caused me pain, so I accepted the disappointing truth.

For anyone that wants to visualise/feel what I mean, prime your hand to grip with the first 3 fingers holding a controller but placed on buttons. Notice the natural position each finger takes, with them not splaying much. Now spread the index apart from the others as much as you can and imagine repeated use of it in that position. It's not comfy. Ergonomically speaking, if you're going to encourage that I think the controller needs to be reshaped to encourage the natural position of the fingers.

This may be something that doesn't affect most people, and I don't want to discourage people based on my experience as I'm likely an outlier.

Personally, I'm now sticking to controllers with R4 up top. It's such a convenient placement (when done right) and allows for much more natural play control schemes. I consider that a stroke of genius, and a real "Why didn't anyone think of that before?" idea.

I've had mine for a while now, and it's awesome, I love it with the steam deck, but what in the hell is with Valve? They're a massive company, how the hell do they fuck up this stuff so, so badly. They're horrible at every part of the process. Ordering is a mess, delivery is a mess, never enough stock. They never seem to learn. 2027 is insane. They've probably sold, what? A few hundred thousand controllers at most and now we've got a backlog into 2027?

People forget the same thing has happened with past Steam Hardware. Both Index and OG Steam Decks had long queues while these were being shipped out.

Valve don't have a big distribution network as people seem to think they do.

They've literally done this with every single piece of hardware they've released. No idea why they don't take $5 or $10 preorders like 6 months in advance to get an idea of demand. Letting it happen this many times is clearly intentional artificial scarcity.

How are they going to get the distribution of the steam machine right if they fucked up a simple controller?

I don't get it honestly. Why can't they produce them faster?
The amount they ordered was probably fixed months or maybe just weeks before first preorders. And they won't commit to huge additional orders way above current initial orders interest, because interest might fall off a cliff after the diehard fanboys have theirs.

The numbers are probably not actually huge, so ordering twice as many as you need could be a colossal fuckup. Even if the lines stop making them once it dries down, they have to pay the assembler some amount because they allocated factory space, machines, workers to that order (and could not take orders for something else, which also can't possibly be dragged forward either if a slot opens up).

They can't overshoot the amount and then say whoopsie without consequences.

After trying it for a day, I love it. In fact I don't think I need a steam machine anymore if it's over priced. I can buy a form factor PC for my large screen TV, install Steam and just use this controller to operate and play games on it.

The heart and soul of the Steam Machine is this controller, not the console.
