This was making the rounds earlier than that Sony related patent and was what i was talking about:
Something to consider:
i talked about an aiming system in the bumper/scrolwheel patent thread. Basically the wheel would control the X axis camera movement and the tilt of the controller would control Y axis camera movement.
Now imagine this prototype:
Durability issues aside, let's asume they go with a bumper wheel with force feedback. Imagine having tilt resistance with something like servos for a similar shaped prototype controller. You could basically have a probably better aiming system than a thumbstick with very trivial movements for control, yet preserving similar or better feedback.
Aiming would basically only need one index finger, leaving the thumb free to quickly operate a variety of buttons instead of dancing around when alternating between aiming and other actions.
