Why are people no longer having sex in Japan?

Immigration
According to the Japanese immigration centre,[11] the number of foreign residents in Japan has steadily increased, and the number of foreign residents (excluding few illegal immigrants and short-term visitors such as foreign nationals staying less than 90 days in Japan)[22] were more than 2.2 million people in 2008.[11]
Foreign residents. They are not immigrants or proper citizens. They can be told to leave, and in rotations, many of then probably are.

Maybe foreign residents do offset the Japanese pop shrink? That'd be interesting. Means that the shrink is on paper more than reality. But we'd have to see more to know that..

I just skimmed through the article but I find it odd that they quote the study about women in the range of 16-24 having no interest in sex, while they only interview women in their 30s.

I mean seriously, how many 16 years old are actually thinking: "I won't start fucking because it could be bad for my career".

Why didn't they ask the 16-years old asexual girls? That would be much more interesting.

I think it's because so many kids are being raised in cold, strict homes where they don't get enough affection and don't have a chance to get socialized properly in school. How do they have a chance to become social when they are raised to think that everyone around them is the competition and that they need to beat the fuck out of them?

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
I don`t know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I`m an expert), but ambition and career are huge parts of it. It`s not like it is in America where you can become pregnant by getting drunk. If you screw someone in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is to get married. What this means is the Japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to have any more babies nor will they want to get married. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Japan has boned an entire generation with his move. Japan, publicly apologize and start making babies or you can kiss your population goodbye.

Where do you get that from? I'm fairly sure that it's the opposite.

So when the Japanese are all dead from not having sex and making babies anymore...

..who has claim to the islands?

I don't know if Switzerland is another developed nation edge case... But see here: Japan has almost no net immigration.
Oh I know, and I never wanted to say that it's easy to immigrate to Japan, but it's not like its immigration laws are that much more extreme than any other developed country.

I call Kyushu! Ill probably give it to the Koreans in exchange for a kpop harem.

But... They are. Immigrating to Japan is an entirely different proposition than immigrating to a place like America, Canada or Australia. It's basically unlikely to occur unless you marry a Japanese person or have a particularly desirable career.

Japan is just not taking in any significant numbers of immigrants unlike most developed nations.

Korea is in the same boat. There might be few senior kpop harems left for you when the time comes. I'll call Okinawa for myself.
I will settle for the members of Elderly Ladies' Generation.

Japan's sex culture is so fascinating to me. Anytime an article or video like this comes along, I'm suckered in. They should all be having WAY more sex (especially the guy in the OP, he's hot as hell).

Gender equality is not only total shit here in Japan, but men treat women like shit in general. It's not just chauvinism. It's a total lack of gentlemanly behavior.

When I see these posts, I think of a Japanese tourist I came across in New Zealand on my way to the airport a couple years ago. We arrived on separate shuttles at the same stop and we had about 3-4 blocks walk to get to the bus station (this is Christchurch btw). I asked if I could walk with her and offered to carry her luggage (despite having my hands full with my own) and she was all for it. We made small talk and generally seemed to enjoy my company. We then parted ways with a hug (she was going to Queenstown and I was heading to the airport).

Again seeing some of the posts in this thread, makes me wonder if she really appreciated my manners and found me attractive. Should I have made more of a move GAF? I'm anything but a ladies man.

Trust me, Japan's sex culture is totally normal in every day circumstances. It's not hard for natives or foreigners to get laid, and I've seen plenty of random hookups among friends to full blown married with kids between co-workers that knew eachother for a few months. The article is talking about workplace stagnation for women and how it affects people wanting to have families in general. But sex is absolutely fine in Japan. And, no, most regular women are not "screamers."

Safe sex is not good sex for Japan, dude. Man up.

I even made a baby for them!! TRUST ME, I'm doin my part.

Ill back you up on this. Clearly there is a problem affecting a certain percentage of Japan, but I feel that foreigners tend to read these stories and write off all Japanese as being prudes or sexually odd. That would be a mistake. Plenty of normal hooking up going on over there....

In fact I find some of it even less prudish than western culture because of the lack of Judeo-Christian shame. You just have to be discrete....

I don't understand how anybody could get that kind of image. I mean, Japan has hotel business which profits on people fucking in their rooms.

That's true.

Although those hotels are basically the result of families living together in close quarters, and a lack of private space. It's not so much that love hotels indicate a greater sexual culture. Though it indicates a normal sexual culture..

Not to mention long commutes. If you hook up with somebody in a bar, you don't want spoil the mood by taking long train ride to home. Easier to get cheap room for couple of hours.

I suddenly wish I had these in Canada.

I've heard Koreans use DVD Bangs, btw. Go into the bang with your girl, rent LotR: Extended Edition for its runtime. Cue porno music.

That's using your brain. In Japan, teens often rent private karaoke booths for period of time and bang there.

From what I have concluded after reading this article, the problems are:

- Uber-hostile business enviroment towards women, with little to no chance to have both a family and a career

- Girls having to meet impossible social expectations regarding marriage / love relationships

- Boys having to meet impossible social expectations regarding marriage / love relationships

The first one can be solved or mitigated trought laws and goverment action, but the last two ones are the real deal, I fear. Take in account that it is not people not wanting to marriage per se, which implies a social and economic contract, but rather rejecting love relationships altogether. Not only about having a stable job and a career, but rather, as to fitting a perfect model of pure untattainable young female idols / gentleman mr.perfect boys. This is far, far more worring.

It seems that both genders are stuck in a kind of a cold war type of situation "I think that you think really bad of me, hence I won't make any kind of move". It is kinda tragic, and comic in a way.

The younger generation of Japanes seems to me tired and sicked of these idiotic social expectations, yet rather than challenge them; they outright say "fuck it" altogether and rennounce to have any kind of love life because it is either perfect marriage or burst, being just happy of having a loving partner or an informal relationship is not enough; and having a love life, beating loneliness and improving your own personal happiness is not worth of challenging the statu quo and ignoring societal preassure. It is sad as fuck.

Also, it just shows how you can't really dislodge feminism from MRI and vice-versa. By putting a ginormous preassure on women, Japanese men have become lonely and loveless. Sexism always come to bite you back in the ass, even if you are not the directly affected gender, it seems. It is almost as if we all belong to the same human race, go figure.

That explains the surveillance cameras I saw in quite a few karaoke joints in Tokyo.

More than Japan I have been always puzzled about birthrate in Germany. They are doing great when it comes to gender equality, great parental benefits (or so I have heard) and yet they refuse to have children (Germany has actually lower birthrate than even Japan). Great mystery.

From my GGG experience, you can't have child the way Germans have sex.

Because it can be quite hard to find a daycare centre in case both parents work. All benefits are no use if you don't have a place for your kid.

That's only one of the reasons, but I guess a rather big one.

The German society still expects the parents (mostly the mother) to watch over the children, daycare is still not as developed as it should be.

Looks like its the fault of the businesses that have realy strict rules when it comes to women at the work place. And tough economic times where its realy expansive to have children.

Pretty much the same here but i wouldn't say its a bad thing for a child to come home from school and one of the parent is home. Daycare would kinda suck if you ask me. But then again im mostly speaking from my own experience growing up as a child, mom was there to pick me up from school or to have friends over at my place. My mom also works now again so its not like its impossible to find work here in the Netherlands as a parent.

But my field of work is easily doable at home so i wouldn't mind being a stay at home dad. All i really need is computer hardware and internet to do some programming when kids are at school. Japan being a country with good internet infrastructure you would think they would have more people working at home but then again i know absolutely nothing about japanese culture.
