[Wii U] Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing Transformed framerate issues fixed

Wow. I wonder whatever became of Crash then. For a while he seemed to be something of a PlayStation mascot.

It definitely was a solid IP
A shame the last Crash game from Sierra turned into shit because I loved the Crash Bandicoot Trilogy and Crash Team Racing
the IP deserved a better fate

There is only one. And it's a wii port with worse graphics than ps3 and 360. Worse models, worse lighting, levels and textures. Only resolution and framerate is better.
Well, apparently there are two, and you're the only one with the bad one.

^ Wow, you just informed me Alex Kidd isn't returning. Oh man, I'll be switching characters... and if he becomes DLC I'm pretty sure we won't be seeing that on 3DS, which is the version I'm buying. Gillius, Joe, AiAi or Amy Rose, then :/
I think it was implied 3DS would be getting dlc too this time. No real reason not to, it's going to probably be one of the best selling versions.

All that "My copy looks just fine!" talk aside, I'm pretty sure the PC version was in fact based off the Wii version assets. It also totally lacked online play.

They (PC and Wii) even shared the same mistake about someone using Sonia the Hedgehog fan art as placeholder art on one of the Casino courses, which wasn't present in the PS3 or 360 versions.

I'm glad S0L has spoken up about the game being fixed, but, I have to be brutally honest here, this is not the first time Sega has sworn all the issues in a demo of a Sonic game would be fixed by the time the title hit launch. And their patch history with Sonic games hasn't been the best, either. So the best thing they can do, if the framerate really is smoothed out, is to show that version off to somebody as soon as they can, preferably a live gameplay demo to press, like on On the Spot on GameSpot for example.

Unfortunately, the pessimist in me would point out that even that could have cherry-picked good content, actively avoiding trouble areas. But getting the fixed version out there, on film, purring along would help a lot.

This topic has left me with a doubt: There are Any multiplatform game on Ps3's release that looks better than the XBOX360 version?

I own the game for 360 and pc, both are the better ones apart fron the pc missing online multiplayer stuff.

It's by no way the wii version.

I want to believe but I'll just wait for impressions. Kart racers are one of the few games I can enjoy with my non-gaming friends so I'd love to get this version.

what about fox mcloud or any other star fox character, they already have a land/water/air vehicle designs hehe
Just have the Blue Falcon morph into a blue Airwing for flight and a blue Wave Runner for sea. 3 Nintendo series in one! :D

F-Zero actually has a (great) Sega connection through AX/GX, which is why I'd like to see it represented. Mario could be too I guess thanks to Mario & Sonic Olympics.

It's going to be hilarious when Segata Sanshiro is announced as a Japanese region only character to replace Danica.

Did I say 'hilarious'? I meant crushingly disappointing followed by murderous rage.

Target framerate is 30fps.

Is the PC version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed able to reach 60fps, S0L?

How about the 3DS version? Mario Kart 7 is 60fps and the graphics look good...

PC version already runs over 60fps, console versions will be locked to 30fps. Mostly down to the water, it's fully dynamic and requires a lot of processing and effects.

You know there is a configuration tool you run outside the game? If you set it to the lowest detail it will switch to using the Wii assets, but if you turn it all the way up, it uses the 360 assets with higher resolution textures.

As such, I'm going to put this one down as user error...

I can already hear my teeth grinding.

S0L, Vita version info, I've been begging forever. :(
Also: thank you for making Amigo's vehicle a train. I love it.

If I had a choice between 60fps and dynamic water in a racing game, I would choose 60fps. I will only be playing this on the PC, obviously.

How did the first game look on PS3/x360? The 30i/s target seems rather low for a racer.

The first game on DS was total shit. I predict the 3DS version will be shit as well. The first version on PS3 and 360 released with a bad framerate. It appeared to be capped at 30, which is fine, but then it dropped all over the place as you raced. Terrible. Then they patched both console versions and it was pretty much rock solid 30 FPS for every single race the entire time and that was great. 60 FPS is great for kart games, but 30 is most definitely acceptable. Especially when you see how much better the game looks than any Mario Kart game ever made.

The DS version was like a completely different game, so here's hoping there's a bit more effort into the 3DS one this time. I'm sure the Vita one will be fine.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Right now we're in full on finaling mode, once it's into submission we intend to look at some demos, be they show floor or end user, but really it's a SEGA question for when they'll show it. Can't really answer that one. Let us finish the game first :p

On the handheld platforms, we've not shown anything for a couple of reasons. Mainly it's been a question of making sure the framerate is sorted so any visuals we show are indicitive of the final game. We don't want to show anything misleading, as if we have to pull back on detail or textures, you'd then (rightly) complain that early shots don't match the final product.

Oh and whilst I can't go into detail on the PC version, yes, all the complaints from last time were very much heard. There will be online play, proper controller configuration, plus you'll not miss out on leaderboards etc - and that's all I can really say for now!

So, when could we expect trailer / screen for the 3DS/Vita version? Next month? Thanks in advance :D

Awesome to hear. I'm getting the Vita and Wii U version, so I'm looking forward to seeing how the two compare. I haven't seen anything announced, but I wonder if Vita/PS3 or Wii U/3DS will have some kind of interactivity.

Also, I sent you a quick PM S0L.

So the first game was good? I kinda want to get this... the video with Sonic flying through that cave kinda reminded me of Diddy Kong Racing.

What controllers work with this game? Looks like a good one to play with my brother.

I think the people saying that the PC version is based on the Wii version are on to something.

Xbox - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOfyH_WZiGI&feature=player_detailpage#t=156s
Wii - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgUYxQXl1aM&feature=player_detailpage#t=27s
PC - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWiJFSgnUBA

Actually I think that all of the HD versions were ported up from the Wii version, but the Xbox 360 version clearly had a lot more work put into making it not look like a Wii game.

that is, again, PC running at minimum settings

It still looks awful at the highest settings. The main difference is it uses motion blur to hide the Wii-quality assets.

Speaking as someone who has played both the Wii version rendered in 1080p via Dolphin, and the PC version rendered (not upscaled!) at native 1080p on my PC, I have to say you need your eyes tested.

Even rendered natively in 1080p, the Wii version is far inferior to the PC version running at that res.

But the PC version is far inferior to the Xbox 360 version regardless of resolution. It's clearly missing a lot of the details and effects that separate the Xbox 360 version from the Wii version. It also looks extremely choppy in motion despite the higher framerate, so it's clear that they did nothing to optimize it for 60 fps.

I disagree about the DS version being bad. I probably played it more than the PS3 version. Didn't play the Wii version, but I'm guessing the 3DS game will look similar.

I played the first on PS3 and 360. It's simply the best kart game in the past few gens. Crash Team Racing is still the pinnacle, but Sonic was up there. The only complaints I had is that they built multiple tracks around the same franchise instead of having one track per franchise. They felt lazy to me.

And I'll disagree with you. It's terrible on DS. On PS3 and 360 it's the best Kart game released since CTR. On handheld it can't come close to Mario Kart DS. Not even close, whereas the console versions blow Mario Kart console games away.

Well, good to know.

And who in their right mind gives a crap about having a rear view on the controller? If you're looking at the controller, you're losing.

RjM9N.jpg

This control scheme might make a little more sense for the rear view option.

Though I don't know if this game supports playing single player or online like that or not.

If the 3DS version has considerably toned down visuals, it could run at 60fps like Mario Kart 7. That'd be actually very nice.

S0l, I've got an idea! After you're done with the Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, you guys should pitch Wave Race U to Nintendo.

I mean you don't want to waste that dynamic water engine you have created. Pitch the idea to Sumo studio management, please! :)

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
In the ONM podcast, they talk about the Developers assuring them that the frame rate will be fixed (it occurs 24 minutes in.)

They also mention the Wii U Monkey Ball mode, where one player plays as the monkey in the ball and tries to run over the other players who are racing.

It was a 25th anniversary thing, I think.

As for Sackboy... isn't there a LBP kart racer coming out soon? Would they really allow him to show up in a competing game?

Well if not him I can't think of anyone else that would be obvious. Any other character they pick would be considered an odd choice even if its a good choice.

Maybe, maybe.... let's see, 480GTX with newest drivers and this is the result

Is there another configuration utility that I should know? Because I can see some videos on youtube with better quality.

WTF???!!! Low poly models -> OFF is what I think means Low poly models OFF!!!

I put Low Poly models -> 4 players and now I found the 360 quality. All the time playing a wii port and I don't know I have a real "nextgen" racing game XD

Sometimes discussions with the developer brings good gifts.
