Wait...I thought the tutorial is automatically disabled if playing on Ironman.

I'm not sure about that... I just turned on the tutorials because I wanted to see what improvements were made in the game with the new patches and expansions.

The game does run a lot more smoother compared to before now, just this glitch is pretty bad...

Damn, I've been playing several hours and haven't researched the arc thrower yet. I will test this in a moment, as I started a game with the meld tutorial on.

Well I have all tutorials on if that is possible. I just wanted to see how it was, but then this happened and I have to start all over again thanks to Ironman mode. ><

I'm using the Canadian (Steam) store but live in Europe. Bought the game, the game's page says it should be available now... but it's not installing? I don't get the EU/EW selection prompt.

Do I need to use a VPN to get this working? Blah :(

You might have to. Steam has a really annoying habit in the EU of showing games as going live on Tuesday, but once Tuesday hit changing it to Friday. Essentially they show the US release date as global then change their minds (or not bother to show the correct one in the first place).

Maybe they will be sensible and just let steam launch the game worldwide but wouldn't count it, gonna have to wait until Thursday night, don't wanna risk my account with VPN's :(

Well fuck, that's retarded.

Man this sucks. I'm surprised this hasn't been addressed yet. I saw a post on steam where someone had reached out to GMG, but they said it was out of their hands (which makes sense because other retailer keys are getting the same issues).

At least I won't be enabling tutorials now.

EDIT: my bad, I thought that the comment posted on Steam was an individual contacting customer support, but it's actually just posted on GMG's support page under XCOM Enemy Within. So it has been addressed, sort of.

Am I alone in being completely turned off by the direction of this (mechs!!!), despite loving both the original game and the reboot?

I'm really skeptic about the mech stuff as well, but the gene therapy and EXALT really interest me, so I'll probably pick it up next year when it's <$10 on a Steam sale, and I really feel like re-playing it a third time.

I played about 20 minutes of this last night. My first impression is that this if a much more polished and well-rounded version of XCOM. This feels like the complete game that Firaxis set out to make in the first place. The pre-rendered cutscenes are noticeably cleaner, there were quite a few compression artifacts in the original version of the game. Transitions in combat are faster, the lag that would sometimes happen between actions is gone. The new maps were sorely needed, too.

The medals are a neat addition.

Oh, and THANK YOU to Firaxis for adding the option to shut the doctor up about not using explosives.

I have the Commander Edition in my hands. :3

I'm wondering if Classic is going to be too easy in EW (without any 2nd wave options). A lot of reviewers are saying the latter part of the game is easier than Vanilla XCom.

I feel like I'm going to need to restart my game already. Of the first 8 troops to be promoted out of Squaddie, only 1 turned out to be Assault.

Why can't I hold all these support?

I'm halfway in month 2 in Classic and it feels like a breeze so far, and that's with choosing Europe as my starting continent. Granted I'm coming off an I/I win a month ago, but it definitely feels less tense so far. Will definitely jump back into Impossible after this run is over.

I cracked out last night and minus a few suspect incidents the new mission types are really cool. But before I decided to go to sleep this morning, I got a call to go to a fishing village......

Shit.....

I'll give this a shot. I liked XCOM enough, but it didn't have anywhere near the staying power of earlier titles. Going to grab it on XBOX since I have a ton of MS Points/Cash to burn.

Checking XBOX Marketplace...

Fucking Microsoft.

Why is GoD still so slow to put up new titles? Steam is ready. PSN is ready.

Considering how badly Enemy Unknown just mercilessly beat the crap out of me round after round, I should not have the least bit of interest in this expansion, but looking at that OP...my squad-y is ready.

First Escort mission ends with most of my squad wiped and my rookie panicking and shooting the scientist. I'm never going to see the new content if I try playing Classic Ironman.

I'm going to be doing an Classic Ironman run right off the bat. Anyone got any general tips I should adhere to that apply to both games?

Question. I have the base game on console. If I trade it in and buy Enemy Within, will I still be able to play my base saves? Or do I need the base game standalone to play them? I still have a classic Ironman run I haven't quite finished yet.

Bought the game off Amazon, but the DLC isn't installing no matter what I try. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.

Have you tried verifying the local game cache?

I was having similar problems last night, and then I tried that this morning and it started downloading like a 7 or 8 GB update which I can only assume and hope is the expansion. Of course I won't be able to verify that everything is in order until I get home from work, but that may be a potential solution...

Even on PC where it's an expansion, you have to start a new game.

Oh no. I understand if I want to play with the new content I have to start a new game. I'm just asking if I can play my old non-expansion games with the Enemy Within disc or if I need to keep my Enemy Unknown disc too.

Out of curiosity, what does the Meld tutorial tell you to do? I assume I want to avoid it!

It just tells you to be on the lookout for Meld, and to extract it, just move up to it and left click/press A/X? to acquire the Meld inside. It also tells you that Meld self-destructs the longer you wait to acquire it. I'm not sure if the timer activates as soon as you see it, or if it counts down regardless though.

As for the gamebreaking glitch, I found that it is the main tutorial that activates the glitch when the game FORCES you to research the Arc Thrower. Afterwards, it locks you in a certain screen shown in my video here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eGF3Fd-XAk

If this happens to you, you will have to restart a new game, even if you have backup saves because if the main game tutorial is on, it won't let you progress until you've researched the Arc Thrower.

The game should work fine though with only the Meld tutorial though, that's what I've heard from the Steam Forums for XCOM.

This isn't as much as a tip but... just make sure you don't have tutorials so your game doesn't lock your progress beyond repair.

God damnit, Enemy Within doesn't turn on autosaves by default. Just crashed and lost an hour of progress.

If it doesn't carry over settings from Enemy Unknown, it should at least warn you to save before missions or something.

Ah, nothing too big to miss then.

I'm guessing you don't play on Ironman then since Autosave wasn't automatically on for you huh? :p

and besides an easy first 2 meld sources, not much at all no.

Man, I had a hard time finding a copy.

Target weirdly is not selling the 360 version either in store or online. Best Buy didn't get their shipment in. Call Gamestop, they're sold out. Call the Gamestop across the street from that other Gamestop, and they had one freakin copy left. Thankfully I got it.

Installing now, this game is what I've been looking forward to the most all year. I just know my PS4 will eventually collecting dust while I start my nth campaign.

Exists in a perpetual state of Quantum Crotch Uncertainty.
I'd been planning to wait on a sale for this, but all of a sudden the strategy itch overwhelmed me and here I am downloading some 7 gigs of additional XCOM.

Come to me, robo-aliens. I have presents for you.

Normal is surreal in terms of how easy it is. I'm playing it with zero Second Wave options to familiarize myself with the new stuff (also because none of the EU ones showed up) and I've only lost one or two guys and I'm doing pretty well in terms of panic. I'm doing well with research and facilities, even though I've got no gene-mod soldiers or mech-troopers yet, and I don't even have the Foundry yet.

Probably just my selective memory, but I feel like soldiers get Wounded condition incredibly easy now. Lose one or two health, and they're out of commission for 5-10 days. This is really crippling the early game for me.

I agree that's a problem, TC. Normal is too easy, and Classic is too hard for some people. There's no real middle ground. I just wish they had a difficulty that had uninhibited AI, but doesn't give them stat increases as well.
