Metal Gear Solid V Res Confirmed: Sub-720p (PS3/360), 720p (XB1), 1080p (PS4)

Nice. Not really excited about GZ but the thought of Phantom Pain in 1080p/60 makes me salivate.

Also to the people saying others shouldn't be shocked by this. I don't think that is the issue many are having.

For all intent and purposes MGS GZ is a last gen game that is "polished" for next gen hardware. If it can't pull off 1080p that is very alarming.

Multiplat games will always look better on PS4, but when Top AAA PS4 first party games start coming out it'll put XB1 games to shame.

I'm honestly surprised that the Xbone is 720p/60fps. When Kojima said that the differences were small between the next-gen systems, I thought it would be really minute but 720p vs 1080p? It's a huge difference!

1080p/60fps on my PS4 will be awesome nonetheless.

It's never going to happen, but I wish more developers would do this. Don't bullshit people, just post pictures of both versions of your game and their resolutions/framerates.

That's a perfect world you're asking for.

How else would they keep fooling the unaware populace into buying the "lesser" versions if all developers are open like that. Don't get me wrong, I agree it would be nice if we didn't have to wait until a DF article to know these types of things.

Not only that, but all the previewers that went to the MGS5 bootcamp thing said the PS4 version also ran smoother... that's kinda worrying for Xbox One owners.

Is there going to be a new thread detailing the resolution and frame rate of every next gen game? I'll save you guys the trouble:

PS4 - (probably) higher FPS and higher resolution
Xbox One - (probably) lower than PS4 in FPS and resolution

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Whelp, still gonna go either PS3 or 360 on this. I think i'll go with the PS3.

Though I'm a bit disappointed the current-gen versions seem to be sub HD w/ scaling to 720p.

PS4 version looks substantially better than the Xbox One. After CoD, BF, TR, etc...this should not surprise anyone.

Glad we're getting 1080p and 60 frames on PS4. Game looks gorgeous.

Ignoring the PS4, the real issue here is that 360 fans so far aren't getting a significant upgrade with multiplats. Kinda hard to believe that the x1 engineers fucked up so badly right outta the gate. Seems that all the future proofing was in the wrong areas.

Wow, the internal hardware teams at Microsoft's Xbox division need a fucking slap for this.

How on earth did they think the hardware they put out was a good idea?

Its basically like they built a whole piece of hardware arund the mistake that Nvidia made with the GTX 660 in terms of its VRAM configuration:

Horrible bottlenecks everywhere, no matter how much you try to code for it specifically.

No amount of SDK releases will fix this.

Wow, is there any game besides Forza at 1080p/60 on the XB1? The hardware just has major problems with 1080p so far... I really can't tell the difference between the 360 and XB1 versions

Was not expecting 720p it seemed that devs were at least lately trying to at least go a bit higher than that. PS4 Version mine day 1 either way, full price Kojima always hooks me in.

I think DF would sitll be necessary for things like AA and exactly what the framerate looked like (60fps rarely means that a game is locked at that framerate). We've seen a few developers finally bite the bullet and just come out and say "This version is X resolution and this version is Y resolution". I mean, I definitely understand that they're trying to sell all versions of their game. But the news is going to get out eventually.

But they had technical fellows. And invented DirectX. Where could they have possibly gone wrong?

Yes. It is important for consumers to be informed as to the precise differences in multiplatform games, including resolution, framerate and different effects in place so they can make the informed decision over which version they would get.

For example, a consumer might prefer the XBO controller and online functionality, but might feel the gap is so big on a particular multiplatform game that they'd get it for PS4. Or the opposite might be true: the difference between multiplatform games might be small enough that they'll just go with the system that allows them to play with their favorite controller.

It makes me laugh every time people like you come into these threads that clearly annoy you only to complain about consumers being better informed. The implication being you would actually prefer we don't have these discussions, so that consumers might be more ignorant.

Is the 360 version at a lower resolution? Looking at the barbed wire on the left the 360 is less defined.

I'm reading the captions on the pictures in the link. They refer to the Xbox One version having "better lighting" and "improved resolution" in comparison to Xbox 360.

So yeah, maybe the Xbox 360 version is sub-HD...

Unless my eyes are broken, the current-gen and next-gen comparison shots don't look significantly different.

edit: these are better shots.
In the link you gave it's kind of hard to tell for 360 and XB1 too, but that's partially because there isn't something as readily obvious as a sign in English to use as a reference point like PS3/PS4. If you pay attention to the sand/dirt though you can tell it's way sharper on XB1, so I expect similar for stuff like signs just because there's more ram for sharper textures, even if the framerate is barely better than last gen.

Zooming in on the pictures the XB1 pics ARE subtly sharper, which makes them examples for 720p native actually making a difference. But like I said more RAM means more memory for textures so I think even at the same exact resolution XB1 was going to look much nicer anyway.

What's wrong with the 660? I have two running in SLI and have never had an issue.

And it's 0p and 0fps on my PC or Wii U ;_;

Anyways, I think it's time to stop acting like we're surprised by this... Yes, it's been established, the Xbox One is weaker. But why do we need to have these arguments over power? Just buy a nice gaming PC if you want the best graphics. Otherwise, get the platform with the most exclusives you like.

These comparisons are just getting silly. It's about the games people, as long as they're good, who cares what resolution they run at?
60fps is golden though
No offense, but why enter a spec thread to not talk about performance? Perhaps someone is only going to buy one console and want the best value for their money. Most people buy 3rd party software so these comparisons are important.

This seems to be the opposite of Tomb Raider DE, where both versions were 1080p but PS4 was around 50-60fps while X1 was 30 and lower at times. Now here it's both 60FPS but one is 1090p and the other is 720p.
