This anal asshole isn't buying your game.

Same. People need to be held accountable for the dumb shit they say.

Can't say I've ever seen another industry where the people making the product can come out and start insulting potential customers. Fuck that guy, and fuck his game.

Well I don't know you... but yes, you probably are :p

But is he a nazi asshole?

I dont think we should prosecute an entire studio, for the remark of an idiot that started working there in June.

He represents the studio, and in this case its also worth exploring how close is his relationship with past reviewers and editors and how could that influence the scores of the games, I sure as hell wont be paying attention to the Polygon score when the current Review editor used to be his roomate and got introduced into the industry by him.

Better question IMO: What do the personal remarks of one person have to do the quality of the content created by many?

Follow up: The NeoNazi are potential customers for Chevy. Would you be mad if a worker at Chevy literally insulted them after hearing one of the NeoNazi hate speeches?
I'm not calling anyone a nazi just making a point

Answer to first question: you're right, however, he is unofficially representing the company he works for. As such, he should behave with decency in public and held accountable for his actions.

Second: funnily enough, Godwin's law prove right, again.

same for me. i know he not representing the whole team, but you shouldnt insult potential customers.

Yeah, that is a pretty stupid comment to be making when your game is coming out.

Spitting in the face of your audience is not a sound business strategy.

Can't say I've ever seen another industry where the people making the product can come out and start insulting potential customers.

Not only this but I would think if you're involved in the industry like he is, you'd understand and respect the opinions of higher resolutions and frame rates. They're pretty important. I won't not play a game I'm interested in because of the resolution or even the fps unless its insufferable, but to pretend like people are "assholes" because they kind of expect more out of the gaming consoles that they've paid $400-$500 for is total bullshit.

I dont think we should prosecute an entire studio, for the remark of an idiot that started working there in June.

This, perhaps we can just get on with it? People say shit over the internet and it gets blown out of proportion. Lets just calm down and ignore what this individual has said!

I dont think we should prosecute an entire studio, for the remark of an idiot that started working there in June.

If you like supporting this sort of behavior, then more power to you. I'll vote with my wallet by abstaining in, directly or indirectly, financially supporting Anthony Gallegos.

Oh this isn't the zombie parkour game? Fuck these guys.

If the head of Techland came to my house and took a shit on the table during Christmas dinner I'd still buy Dying Light.

Unprofessional aggressive rubbish of one single idiot shouldn't lead to a witchhunt against the whole company imo. But he should be called out for this scummy behaviour on his personal level. Maybe we should complain to his employer in a calm and levelheaded way.

I do hope this guy is promptly fired.

He's clearly a bit ignorant about graphical fidelity and he's a generalizing douchebag who is potentially hurting the development studio he works for.

Really, if I was the company, he'd walk in on Monday and have to clean out his desk. I don't think it'd be different for most places.

I can't be an anal asshole if I did that.

There is no accountability in this industry. I wouldn't expect anything to happen at all. I mean, Gies somehow manages to stay employed, among others.

He should just apologize.

I Agee. It would be the most responsible thing to do. But I say that for the sake of the studio and other members of the dev team. Their contributions should not diminished by this.

On a personal level I can see why his pride is going to stop him. Look at the reactions from GAF about ign saying 720/1080 is hard to see. If his tweet was directed at them... he might be on to something.

He should just apologize.

Personally, I would be just fine with an actual apology out of Anthony. Unfortunately, I just don't see that happening, not with the way he and his peers typically behave in these situations: it's almost always wagon-circling and verbal circle-jerks through twitter until enough time has passed, after which the issue is mostly ignored.

Maybe it would be best for you to do some research on Anthony before you make baseless assumptions on a single comment. Doing that puts you in the same position that you are condemning him for.

Just a recommendation...

It kills me that people think they can say whatever they want on twitter. It kills me how stupid people in the games industry are in terms of using social media. Fucking dumbfounding. This game isnt a huge blockbuster so it needs all the help it can get yet they have an employee generalizing an entire forum that is quite good at spreading word of mouth. Hope he feels happy defending his friends bullshit as it just became his bullshit.

Yea, I just don't understand it. If I had an employee who publically insulted a chunk of my customer-base on the internet, they'd have to go.

The fact that he doesn't grasp the importance or reality of 1080p over 720p(in an age when 1080p TV's and monitors have become standard) really isn't even the biggest issue.

But all of yall calling for him to be fired lack some serious empathy.

Arthur always having to come to some clueless like him dudes defense. It's cute and sad in a way.

I love how people like to downplay the difference between 720p and 1080p when a 1080p image is over 2x larger...

That's...... significant.

What baseless assumption did I make?

Please don't tell me you're going to defend this guy. He may not be a full-time generalizing douchebag, but he certainly was here.

And being a one-time douchebag on the internet that could possibly damage your employer's reputation and even sales is enough to lose a job in most industries. I don't think its an overreaction to say he should be fired.

So this guy can get away with being a condescending, insulting asshole because he was something else in the past?

Sorry, that doesn't fly in the professional world.

Good lord, this thread.

It's probably good that not many people listen to rebelfm, as Anthony et al's head would be called for on a platter on a weekly basis.

Not really. Most people should know what they say can hurt their employment. If I were his employer he would be fired or at the very least, be told to never address any video game related item on twitter or other social media again.

Well, Anthony is usually
a really nice guy... But this was a dick move. It was unnecessary, and while there are some idiots on here, there are far more great posters than there are idiots, and him saying that we're all just that is pretty idiotic, as GAF is FULL of potential customers, abs they really will lose a few sales because of it.

While the IGN guys were wrong about the resolution thing, you do actually have to be quite close to see the difference... People may have given them unnecessary hate, but still, this is not cool.

"SHILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLS."

That bothered me more than being called an anal a-hole. Maybe because I think him and Ben Kuchera rub one out watching Pokemon anime together. "Oh yes! Collect the monsters with your balls! AHHHH YEAAA!!!"

I agree. But we're not his employer. I'm not disagreeing w/ what you're saying, I just feel uncomfortable calling for his head.

IMO the Only difference between you and him is that you are hiding behind anonymity when tossing the sludge. His tweet was after GAF exploded on ign in a hateful way.

I think many need to calm down. I almost want to laugh at all who are actually offended by what he tweeted. I think most are just mad that he made a joke at their expense (as of he knows any of you and actual thinks this)

He's quickly burning through any empathy I had for the guy. Anthony (among others) received financial support from a bunch of us post-1up layoffs, only for that to be used in helping bring Arthur Gies into the industry, as well as paying for another friends gaming PC.

Now he's joining in the typical ethusiast-press wagon-circling while insinuating that most of the people here who discuss technical aspects of games are just a bunch of "anal assholes". I'm sorry, but I'm pretty tired of seeing the enthusiast press talk down to and shit upon people who are clearly more knowledgeable about these things than they, so my general attitude at this moment is, "Fuck you. Too Bad. Learn to treat your customer base with more respect and we will reciprocate similarly."

Please don't make this thread about Arthur Gies or whatever wanker said what. Out of sight, out of mind. We don't need to see any twitter posts from those lot to know that they talk a lot of shit. I'll judge Daylight on its terms and cool to see them experimenting with twitch integration with the chat/viewers, don't think I've seen that before in a game being directly affected.

I believe your quote was, "He's clearly a bit ignorant about graphical fidelity". Unless I'm mistaken, you don't know Anthony; and therefore, that quote was just as generalized and baseless as his was. You can't judge a man based on one comment, just as he shouldn't have judged the Gaf as a whole based on one issue that the vocal minority got up in arms about once upon a time.

It just seems as if you are taking this a bit personally. So he insulted the Gaf. Big deal! He's an ex-journalist. Find a site that doesn't have something negative to say about us at one point or another.

Feel free to not purchase his game and to vote with your wallet, but you have to admit that calling on his employers to fire him for making a flippant comment about the Gaf is a bit ridiculous and overly sensitive.

I think what he said was pointless and accomplished nothing (over than just coming across as an arse) but this is a really, really good post. The IGN hate was pretty overboard.

Hey people,

I didn't mean to make you all so mad. And for that I apologize. I made a flippant comment (hello, internet!) because I was pissed that people were ragging on mitch for such a silly remark he made. Like, why do people care so much about what he talks about with TVs? It was a moment of bitterness, a moment of weakness, and a silly thing to say. I'm sure most of you are great people. Some of you are my colleagues. Some of you are potential customers who, I hope, can forgive someone for having a moment like we've all had. Twitter makes it too easy to say something out of hand and have it become more important than you'd think. So again, NeoGAF, I apologize to all of you. No one forced me to do this. My employer didn't make me do this. I wanted to do this because I saw that I offended many of you, some of whom no doubt supported me during my lowest days of unemployment after layoffs, etc. It is unfair to group together all of you when it's really only some of you who sometimes say unnecessarily mean remarks to my friends, etc. Can you forgive someone for a fault, NeoGAF? I hope so.

I'm hiding behind anonymity? My name is right there in my screenname. I have a fucking picture of my face as my avatar. I've met with many members on here in person and know there's at least one person here who knows me and grew up with me. I'm not shy about talking about personal information and am in no way trying to use the internet to hide who I am.

If I said something that was directly related to my job on Twitter, insulting my customer base, I would certainly be fired.

I don't know what world you live in where people shouldn't have to face accountability for their actions or live in the real world, but I certainly am very aware of all this stuff.
