Must be a FIFA thing. They don't have a profile type system available for people so even if they're in your club but not your friend, you can't say click on their name from the player list and invite them to the party (or add them as a friend).
LOL. I bet that they're now regretting it, hence all of the damage control of constantly downplaying PS4's advantages in power & graphics.

That as well as how much they overcharge for things like harddrive upgrades and the such drove me nuts. Believe me when I say I was very PRO MS but after what I've been seeing the direction MS is taking going forward I just couldn't take it anymore. I almost hate myself for creating such a backlog of games on that system and I currently have over 120 titles downloaded on my 360 that I would love to eventually go through, I'm forced to let my kids work through it now as I move forward with my PS4 LOL!!

It's strange how my preferences have swung over the past couple of generations. I actually preferred the Xbox over my PS2 when it came out. I just loved the exclusives more, even though the PS2 of course had a ton more games and all of the success. Then last-gen rolled around and I ended up preferring the PS3 over my 360, even when it was under fire for it's first few years.
Now here I sit, still on the sidelines as the new generation has launched. The PS4 is more powerful, it's cheaper and has the momentum going in it's favor. Yet when looking at which system I intend to buy first, the Xbox One is the one that I find most appealing. It has a stronger and more appealing (for me) lineup of exclusives, seems like it is well made and it has features like Snap going for it that I will without a doubt get a lot of use out of.
Anyway, to my point. I just find it funny how I always end up being more attracted to the one that is not doing as well. Probably just a coincidence, I don't know. *shrugs* I will end up with both, regardless. But I am pretty set on getting the Xbone first.

I actually don't see a ton of "hate" (some, but not a ton). I see a lot of people talking bout how MS dropped the ball, how the X1 is underpowered, etc. But most of those seem grounded in reality, not some vitriolic emotion.

Because of competition though, both companies had to tone down their arrogance. It's good that there are two powerhouses to keep each other in check then.
Lots of people called MS out and told them they won't buy it with the original ideas because they had the option of going elsewhere.

Not everyone buys multiple consoles, and for those that do ... It's typically not at launch due to cost.
Logically people are going for the console that is perceived to be the better value.

I wasn't around in 2006. What hate was Sony getting? I can remember it being expensive.

MS isn't going to fail with Xbox One, they will sell enough to have a decent user base and sell good amounts of software. So I don't really care, they will be around, Sony will probably be in the drivers seat for this gen. They will both try to one up each other and hopefully that leads to a better deal for gamers in the long run. I know Sony wouldn't be where it is today if not for MS putting pressure on their business.
I don't even own a next gen console so I'm not MS defending but what do they have to do now to stop the backlash? I see a price drop thread today and the first replies are bomba.

But when does that happen? Late 2015? The lead might be too far to really recover if that's what they are counting on.
And people are still calling MS out for paywalling apps, using shady parity practices with Indies, offering little of actual value for paying for their service, and charging more than the competition for a camera that has little use at this point. If people continue to call them out, maybe those things will actually change? Maybe they will start funding more 1st and 2nd party game development and we will get new, exciting experiences only available on their platform? Maybe next time around, they will correct the mistakes they've made and actually release a console that core gamers want right off the bat?
That is what competition is good for. Saying "competition is good" as a defense for why someone should buy a product is the complete opposite of competition.
Off the top of my head:
- Price
- Boomerang controller
- Fake CG footage at E3 2005
- Underwhelming launch titles and bad 3rd party ports early on
- An incredible number of PR statements that were full of arrogance and contempt for gamers
After coming off the PS2 which was my favorite system that gen, I nearly swore off Sony. I piled a lot of hate on them at the time because they deserved it and bought a 360. It took years for them to get me to spend money on PS3 and gradually they won me back. MS is now on my shit list and that may change, but they need to earn it the same way Sony did.

It can read data CD's.
It can read anything the blu-ray disc drive can read. Sony opted to disable audio CDs playback to save on licensing cost.
Didn't they invent CD's along with Phillips? I'd imagine the licensing fees for them would be negligible.

Doesn't Sony own most of the patents associated with CDs? And also, that would only save them maybe a couple of pennies per device. Probably not even that much.

Backlash? I'm not sure if it's backlash anymore (some of it is). Much of it at this point is MS made their bed, now they must lie in it.
It's not backlash that a console that is weaker and higher priced is losing nearly 2/1 world wide. It's people seeing one console as more valuable than the other. Did backlash cause some of this disparity? Sure. But at this point, MS has made their choice and the hardware cannot be changed.
Now, other aspects of the X1 can be reversed and the price can be dropped to make consumers feel more comfortable with the purchase. But let's not equate perceived consumer value with backlash.

I don't see any hate. It's all just legitimate complaints and problems a lot of us have with MS. And competition is good yes, but MS and Nintendo shouldn't and won't get sales just because "lol competition". They both offered an unwanted product and as such it will get the response it deserves (though I do love my Wii U). Sony offered a compelling platform at a great price and as such they now have the fastest selling console ever. See the difference?
How about they start by stopping all the BS moneyhats and stupid deals. Focus instead on long term first party creation and make them something people actually want (outside of Halo). Lower the price with Kinect included ($399 without Kinect would be just as worthless). Improve their PR, get some people who actually, at least, seem like they care into the gaming division. Issue a full and actual apology for trying to screw the gaming world. And none of that "the consumer was confused" BS, I'd like an actual apology.
It's going to take them years to get this stigma off of them, but they can make it a lot easier if they at least try. Remember how long it took Sony to turn things around with Ps3?
I'm not sure any of that is on the level of hate MS is experiencing now. All I see is threads full of people who can't wait to shout them down.

MS is deservedly getting called out here, GAF has never had any kind of manufacturer bias so anyone interpreting GAF as full of "haters" is straight up incorrect. You would expect a site with no bias to call it exactly as it sees it and a pecking order will emerge, again, not because people are "hating" but because there has to be someone on top and someone on bottom.... And Nintendo.
