Sonic The Hedgehog film will be "dark and edgy" [rumor] aka terrible [confirmed]

The only parts of Generations that I didn't enjoy (barring the optional missions) were Planet Wisp and Time Eater. Everything else in that game was great and the levels had plenty of variety and replayability. They even had a fun fight with Silver in there somehow. I wouldn't call Generations bad or mediocre because the final boss left a bad taste in my mouth.

I never said that Generations was a bad game. Everything from Planet Wisp to the end isn't very good, and both versions of Crisis City have obvious flaws, but the game is great overall.

I always preferred the dark and edgy sonic

Brad bird and Phil Johston... Hahahahahahahaha
Don't make me laugh, they will never do a project like this and even if they did by some divine grace, they would change any gritty realistic script into a children animation movie with no humans at all, and because SEGA will say no to that (because they are idiots) the would leave the project as fast as they could.

This is what should make anyone throw this rumor in the bin. "We want a dark, gritty and edgy movie about a cartoon hedgehog... and our pie in the sky dream-shortlist of writers are mostly people who probably wont deliver that"

They are really committed to this. Hopefully they decide between Nolan/Cameron sooner rather than later. And I also heard David Mamet has spent his life dreaming of this project, but the studio is favouring Sorkin right now who is making a late push, based on his love for the source material. I also heard Andy Serkis will be "giving it his all" with an incredible portrayal of Sonic, who of course will be voiced by Brad Pitt or George Clooney.
Release date is scheduled for December 2015, that was done intentionally so it could face off against the new Star Wars... which according to industry insiders will get crushed at the box office by the reigning global icon that is Sonic.

I believe there are correct ways to do things. Sometimes you can go crazy with rebooted interpretations, but sometimes there are good ways tackle a franchise or project. A Sonic the Hedgehog fully animated children's film with no humans(other than Eggman) IS the best way to do it. That's how the Sonic world SHOULD be represented(still never cared for the other human characters in the series, IMO, they never felt right). It's like the Double Dragon movie(yeah, that one) or the Super Mario movie. Double Dragon could've been done good(but might've been better if it was made in the 80s), a pure martial arts movie that takes cues from Bruce Lee's kung fu flicks, as well as movies like The Warriors(even The Last Dragon, as far as 80s-look is concerned). Super Mario, while I'll always have nostalgia for it(even though it's a bad SMB movie), it's something that can't be done live action. Animated is the way to go(and now, how the CG looking SMB games look, it could be done like that in a similar Pixar/Dreamworks style). I do think there are PROPER ways to approach a project(ways that are true to the frachise as well as styles that best fit it). Sometimes you just need to kick the people with bad ideas to the curb. Not a game movie, but Dragon Ball Evolution... great example of now NOT to tackle a franchise in movie form.

I'm with you in all you said.

I suppose the above image (doesnt seem to appear) is SatAM. I'm of the thought that a middleground between that and the comedy one would make the perfect Sonic cartoon or animated movie (and even game story), something with good adventure and fun and some epic moments in the finales but nothing to serious (something like the story style in Kid Icarus Uprising). I'm more of the comedy one though.

Yeah, that list is nuts. Brad Bird would never work on something like this. I know that he would deliver the perfect Mario or Sonic animated movie, but Im pretty sure that someone like SEGA will never leave him do his family adventure vision, they would probably think that woudln't sell with the sonic fan kid and teen audiences.

Sounds so bad it'll be good. And on a tangent looks like video games might be the next Hollywood trend: there's that SEGA vs Nintendo movie, an Adam Sandler pixel movie, and now this.

oh my god I will always laugh at this.

Uhhhh, Brad Bird had nothing to do with Toy Story 2, Wall-E, Brave or Up.

The fact that they got that so wrong makes me thing there's nothing in the article even close to factual.

All those socially inept 12 year old's are gonna feel so bad arse when they watch it. Especially when Shadow shows up and dubstep starts playing.

Don't say bad arse. Seriously, badass comes from the ass meaning of donkey, saying bad arse sounds very silly.

It's Sonic so I'll check it out. I like grim dark stuff anyway, so I'll be interested to see if it can be competently done.

Making things "darker and grittier", has never really bothered me.

Is this even a good time for a movie? I'm pretty sure Sonic ain't doing so hot. Comic series has gone to shit which was possibly the only thing holding an older stable audience.

Its like all marketting is going towards 7-10 olds who will keep buying the shit games Sonic Team doesn't have to put effort into. Even then Lost Worlds didn't do so hot.

If I weren't privy to doing my own research I would still think that the fanatic echoing Sonic fanbase was correct in him still being relevant enough for a movie. But the fact that they needed to reboot the series in the western hemisphere (Sonic is doomed no matter what in Japan) says that things must be on the decline.

What's even worse is that they left out The Iron Giant and Ratatouille, and instead included films he didn't even work on.. this all sounded like bullshit.. And I think that may be enough to cement it as so.

Thread title edit's confusing me. Is the rumor confirmed or a mod saying the movie's a confirmed mess?

This whole idea was already done by the Mega Man movie director and, like that other movie, the Sonic movie probably sucks big-time.
