But.. I think it's true.. at least to an extent. You're going to deny that there was a ridiculous circle jerk among the gaming media and many who consume said media?

People can't be excited about games they really like? The COD games are one of the most successful from the past gen and this is a better version of COD.

Honest question, if both new consoles are selling well and a growth market exists in this new ecosystem, what's the difference if one is selling more than the other?

A rising ride raises all ships!!

I'd rather more optimism in these threads.
Let's foster competition and focus on software which is way more important to us as consumers

As a whole this is my perspective too.

While the Xbox One is lower, it's not actually doing bad at all, so what we're really seeing is a strong appetite for the next-gen platforms that a lot of the major publishers were relying on to continue making grandiose AAAA productions.

If we only had the PS4 at 7 million and the Xbox One at 1 million or whatever, that would be decided less good.

The PS4 outselling the Xbox One does reinforce what the audience wants, so that sends a certain message across as well, but in the end we need a big userbase to support AAAA next-gen only titles.

Yep it's official Infamous Second Son was confirmed to have sold 2 million a week ago and Microsoft just confirmed that "Xbox One sold 1.4 million games in March" so there is no way XB1 Titanfall outsold Infamous.

Considering the absurd amount of advertising they put behind it that has to hurt. o_O

Edit: oh shit my mistake Infamous announcement was for 1 million not 2. Apologies :/

I think MS was largely in a damned-if-they-do, damned-if-they-don't situation. Specifically, the TitanFall hype.

Due to their own slow timeline for internal games getting released they needed to moneybag an exclusive and TitanFall was really the only option fitting in their timeline. They HAD to hype it up because there is literally no other exclusive "core" game coming out in these surrounding months. But at the same time they probably knew it wouldn't be a huge system seller on a Halo level.

Thus, they had to hype the shit out of it to sell units, even though they knew it probably wouldn't sell systems on a level worthy of the hype.

I personally think they should've held back one of their launch titles to release during these months. Cleaned up the graphics of DR3 then release it? Turned Crimson Dragon into a more fully featured title? I don't know, I really don't get why they banked everything for the first quarter on an new IP arena shooter. The hype train can only take you so far.

In any case I don't count MS out. They should be happy where they are with outselling the 360 by such a large degree, and true system sellers still await. They still own Halo and Gears, after all.

That being said, Sony deserves this win. I loved I:SS.

I don't know man. Everything to this point reeks to them not being ready to go, and points back to that Feb Sony surprise reveal. Just about it all.

I'm not saying they didn't want to launch in 2013, but I think they were behind in their milestones, but didn't care because they figured Sony was going second again. Then it because a rush and you got mistake, after mistake, after mistake.

inFamous had just as much or maybe even more hype than TF.

It really didn't. On GAF, absolutely, but on your IGNs and your Polygons? They were too busy telling us that Titanfall was going to change lives, cure cancer, eliminate world hunder and basically be Jesus.

The above is actual hyperbole, but inFamous really wasn't being treated as some "once a gen" event like Titanfall.

NPD doesn't give us global sell-through, so I'm not sure how they're estimating.

It's not much of a surge -- it's not much more than 10% higher than February, adjusted to weekly rates. It just says Sony did a slightly better job of getting units on shelves in March, and that demand still isn't satiated to the point where supply can get ahead.
March is typically flat on February, despite the 5-week month. So I consider it a surge.

NPD isn't reliable, but it is quite funny how they, all of them, only admit that when they are losing.

LOL wut? NPD is absolutely reliable. And not just when your faves are burning up the charts either. People need to deal with it. The XBone has its work cut out for it to take #1 this gen. Sony is pretty much on fire, and consumers have clearly noticed.

I laugh at the idea that Infamous had more hype than TF though, thats just a damn lie.

so uh

what about Wii U

Wow Sony still top dog. MS better do something drastic. I don't know what that is but they'd better hurry. My first NPD predictions were wrong.

Also some serious console warring going in this here thread. People react so emotionally.

Got a link, thought that was 1 million.

I think you misunderstood my post. I'm not implying any exclusives from any of these publishers. Its just marketing/bundles/DLC. Microsoft has EA. Sony has everybody else. Both have all the games. EA's probably done with exclusives this gen and I can't imagine a big exclusive from anybody else. Sony will not "moneyhat" exclusives.

Nah, I didn't think you were (I mean the only way I see Bethesda leaving out xbox one is if they start doing as badly as Wii U honestly). I am just happy that Bethesda and Sony seem to have good relations this time (maybe we won't get the crappiest versions of games that are already buggy this time, especially now that PS4 is closer to PC architecture).

That's really not all that much...

I'm sorry but you're kind of bullshitting here. All you're doing is reinforcing the point about the hype. People wouldn't get into battle grounds over Pure Chess...

It’s 20% more in a month when MS had their biggest potential system seller hit shelves and MS/retailers were discounting the Xbone like crazy.

That should definitely be worrying MS. It is quite a bit.

It's reliable for retail sales and hardware.

If some idiot made a thread about how disappointed they were that Chess was 1 vs 1 and how it should actually be 4 vs 4 I'm sure it would have been an even bigger thread than the Titanfall one.

This is going to be like the Xbox1 gen. Will get some great games but just can't catch traction due missteps in hardware and price.

Nice, here come the juniors to call into questions NPD and to unskewer the data for us. There's still a chance for XB1 in Ohio, do not call it!

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.

See this is why I feel you. Always the sensible one in these discussions.

not if it was a timed exclusive, money talks man, and MS has the funds to do so.
I have it on good authority (New Xbox anticipation thread May 2013) that Microsoft is actually paying to make Battlefield and FIFA exclusive titles.
