My most hyped game this generation. Huge Souls fan (I liked all of them, but preferred Demons' to Dark slightly). I really think that they're moving the gameplay in the right direction. Souls combat, though incredibly satisfying, can be too easily cheesed with turtle-play. The decision to speed up the gameplay somewhat and force a more aggressive play style sounds great.

I'm also excited to see if dodge animations change from rolls to sidesteps. It always looked a tad ridiculous to be constantly rolling around to avoid attacks (instead of simply sidestepping).

- Sucking too much blood will turn you into a beast which I suppose is this game’s Soul/Hollow form. The game will apparently become a lot harder to play/control when in beast mode. To become a human again you need human blood and is where the online component comes into play.
- There will be online elements of some sort, and it will involve players "discovering" together. As to how exactly the process of fighting alongside other players will work, Miyazaki's coy. "The key concept, or phrase, that we have right now is it's an open explorative community," is all he'll give away.

This sounds really interesting. Very speculative at this stage, but maybe you'll appear as a beast in another player's world and have to hunt them down to regain human form?

Also to those asking about a roll/dodge move, that has been confirmed by several write-ups covering the viewing. Lock-on is also in.

Tried to compile some of the info we have. I may have missed some tidbits, but here we go.
Great list! One more thing that some guy at giant bomb said was that bosses will not always be behind soul-gates this time. Instead, sometimes they'll just ambush you and the soul-walls will just appear afterwards.

They talk about Bloodborne 3:49:00 into the E3 2014 - Day 2 video.

Tried to compile some of the info we have. I may have missed some tidbits, but here we go.

- Early 2015 release
- Action RPG
- PS4 Exclusive. (Sony IP)
- No easier difficulty. Targeting the same level of difficulty as Demon's Souls.
- Game length will be around the same as Souls games.
- Visually one of the most impressive current gen games.
- Targeting 1080p 30fps. Game is still early so currently has framerate issues, devs have acknowledged this and said will be ironed out.
- Bloodborne was started by the team who developed Demon's Souls and the first Dark Souls after they finished work on the Artorias of the Abyss DLC.
- Bloodborne does not star a static protagonist, can customize character and stats like previous souls games.
- From Software says it's going to be more in line with the death penalties and progression system found in Demon's Souls, which from what we gather means that we'll be collecting souls (Blood?) and returning to a safe zone once again.
- The world and story is completely new, and the setting takes full advantage of the PS4's capabilities
- City is called Yharnam, it's massive, looks like London back in the 19th century
- game will take place during various times of day and weather.
- "If you remember the Tower of Latria level in Demon's Souls, that's the kind of atmosphere we want to create with Bloodborne."
- City is very densely layered. 'More complex than Thief'
- When asked, From Software says it's not pursuing the same open structure of Dark Souls II
- The zones of the game are connected between them, as in Dark Souls 1 (conflicts with the above point?)
- Q: Will zones only be filled with enemies? A: You will feel alone.
- But the game has NPC's, can choose to save or ignore some that are in trouble.
- Ragdolls are in
- Fog gates are in
- Cloth physics
- Monsters bleed where you slice them.
- Some areas are really dark, you'll need a torch to navigate.
- There will be no map display in the game
- No shields, focus on faster action.
- There are less weapons overall, but he thinks the depth of each of those actually available make up for that difference.
- Still tons of weapons and armor to collect
- Weapons are divided by right and left hand so you cannot dual wield certain weapons.
- Bladed weapon in right hand is referred to as a 'Sawcleaver'
- Firearms are more useful defensively, to stun enemies, giving you time to back up or create counter-attack opportunities.
- If you hit an enemy's torch they get set on fire.
- You cannot play this the same way as Demon's Souls'. Have to be more aggressive.
- He wants combat to not just focus on action but also the strategic element.
- The combat in the game is designed to feel like a life or death struggle.
- Enemies are not static spawns, but walk around and can come from anywhere (behind crates etc).
- The keywords for the game is "blood" and "beast".
- Blood a key focus and is also used to regain your HP and gain various other benefits.
- They said the Virus(bloodborned) has progressions.
- You get blood sucking it from corpses or items.
- Sucking too much blood will turn you into a beast which I suppose is this game’s Soul/Hollow form. The game will apparently become a lot harder to play/control when in beast mode. To become a human again you need human blood and is where the online component comes into play.

Sooooooooo good. There were too many pointless weapons in DaS, glad to hear they're gonna focus on quality over quantity

Thanks for that, sounds awesome. Added it to the list!

Thanks, added the lock/roll to the list. One note though, the part you quoted was translated from Famitsu, so hopefully whoever translated done a good job!

I'm giddy with delight watching Sony's grasp of the games of thrones this generation.

No more begging SE for Final Fantasy exclusives. Fuck that noise. Partner with a newer and profoundly talented Japanese dev team to create a new IP that builds upon the success of similar games that proceeded it. Combine your resources with theirs - nuture and grow a new brand that's Sony owned. Profit.

I am salivating so hard right now. Pre-ordering this baby. Oh, From, how I loveth thee. I sometimes lament, whatever happened to Sega and Konami and Capcom (formerly my favourite devs in the mid-to-late 90's), and then I think: "who cares, we have From now".

These are some gameplay impressions from gengame.net (never heard of them but they look legit) http://www.gengame.net/2014/06/e3-2014-bloodborne-demo-impressions-classic-dark-souls-with-a-twist/

Anyway some snippets:

Rolling looked very much like it did in Dark Souls and more importantly, the kick, which was taken out of Dark Souls II, is back in the game. The removal of the kick mechanic was a simple change in the series, but one that ended up upsetting quite a few people, myself included.

Other mechanics such as special parrying moves were showcased, allowing the main character to punch through the body of a crazed townsperson.

The real treat was the level’s final boss – a grotesque looking giant creature that stood around 30-feet-tall. It was covered with some sort of malignant rotting flesh and unsightly patches of fur. The chest cavity was exposed and it sported an arm that was much larger than the other. I was instantly drawn in by the creature’s sinister outward appearance, but when it let out a loud, petrifying shriek, I knew I had fallen in love with Bloodborne.

I don't think shields will be gone entirely, but there's going to be a very reduced focus on shields, I bet.
The creeping forward with shield up at all times has been a staple for the souls games so far. Even though the shift towards offensive gameplay is fantastic, I have to think they will add a few shields here and there.

Shotgun shield. Hire me Miyazaki.

Found an interesting youtube comment:

They say, you will also lose your hp with each death and in order to restore it you should drink blood - human or beasts'. If you drink beasts' blood, the world will become much darker and it will be harder to control your character. That's a nice and logical twist to tendency mechanics

Is the world becoming darker true?

I wonder whether "Beast mode" will actually have you morph into a beast. Focused on speed, movement, melee, claws and fangs.

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Anything form Epic Name Bro at all?

No shield this Souls game? Hopefully, the dodge mechanic is good enough to control and is quick. I went shield and sword to the end in Dark Souls. Also non static enemies is gonna be interesting, going to make the game dynamic which is a step up in my books.

Edit: Oh and does the weather feature mean its dynamic or it changes as the game furthers on through the campaign?

Is there a lock-on in the game ?

Im pretty quick to talk shit about the clunky ass gameplay of the souls series, but after reading Colin's preview i can say that i am actually pretty excited to play this.

hopefully we can get rid of that stupid ass hat.
