Pancakes

hot, steaming, as melted butter slips into the cracks, drizzled with sticky sweet syrup OH GOD
Hmm, out of all the streams/events so far I think the TourneyLocator tournaments have had the most exciting matches. Not sure if it's just the playstyles or the level of play seeming higher though.

Casting plays a large role in how fun a match can be to watch too imo.

I wonder, do most people here play Smash Bros at a competitive level, or at a more casual level? Just asking.
I'm compete in tournaments, if that makes me competitive. I usually win a couple matches then get knocked out. So I guess that's a "competitive" level.

But I'm garbage at the game, so still far from high level play.

With most games I've paid attention to on GAF it skews toward casual at the beginning of a game's life but then skews toward semi-competitive later on as the more casual players move on to the next big thing.

I don't see any indication that Smash will be different.

I play casual when friends are over and we just wanna have fun goofing around. And I play competitive whenever a friend wants to. So both, but I have never gone to a tournament for any Smash game.

Let's think up some fun theme matches:

"Skirt Chasers" - 3D Land - Teams - Bowser and Bowser Jr. vs. Peach and Rosalina

"Baywatch" - Tortimer's Island - Teams - Wii Fit Trainer (F) and Wii Fit Trainer (M) vs. Shulk (Swimsuit) and Zero Suit (Shorts)

"Star Wars" - Mute City - Free-For-All - Captain Falcon vs. Samus vs. Fox vs. Pikmin & Olimar

"Arcade Kings" - Pac-Maze - Free-For-All - Pac-Man vs. Mario vs. Donkey Kong vs. Little Mac (Wire Frame)

"Mechon Fight" - Gaur Plain - Teams - Shulk vs. Mega Man, R.O.B. and Samus [Xenoblade spoiler:
She's a faced Mechon
]

or the game just skews toward dead after a while :p

Super Smash Battle Royale - Any Character but have to use Final Smashes to kill

WWS - Boxing Ring, mainly use grabs(specials that are grabs count) plus jabs and neutral air, Game & Watch can use his side tilt

So, the question then is do you have a strong desire to succeed, PadWarrior? ;P

Heath was so realistic that he continued to doubt Duck Hunt even after all evidence pointed to the leaked images being real (I.E. Shulk's official confirmation, etc)

I know, but he wasn't disappointed, was he? I'm the type of guy who wanted Bayonetta and K. Rool. He got DHD and was happy. I, on the other hand, am about to go unsatisfied, even with DLC.

I get hyped dreaming up all kinds of possibilities, but I'm still 110% content with the roster. It doesn't have to be either/or. You can have your cake and eat it too!

Seriously, compared to mine, everyone's internet connection seems to be on steroids lol

As low as possible. For perspective 16ms is one frame at 60 FPS, so if you're less than that you're looking really good.

2-3 frames is what you and I would be looking at. If you can feel the difference between 60 and 30 FPS it would probably feel similar. Just slightly less responsive.
I guess I can deal with it.

You're doing it wrong lol
Well excuuuuuuse me princess.

seems like he's already apologising for melee shitheads

And Smash 4 ones?

All I wanted was Charizard by himself and a Yoshi that wasn't ass so I'm good. :D

I wanted Captain Falcon to be back and not suck. I know for sure we're halfway there, and the other half isn't looking too bad yet.

Guys, I can feel it in my bones. Ridley DLC in first pack.

Yeah, probably. Will be an awesome stage.

she's top tier now
her up+b is a KO move
Zelda can basically telefrag people now? Seriously? I mean its going to take some precise long range positioning, but she can do that? I need to learn how to do that.

Awesome, I've always played her a bit teleport happy, can't hit what's over there, and there, and now there, as it were, so if that style is becoming the go-to style for Zelda, then I have a head start from Melee and Brawl.

Honestly, my biggest hope tier-wise in Smash 4 is Zelda outranking Sheik. Heck, I want Zelda to be a counterpick for Sheik. Just for vindication after basically being replaced for two games in a row.
Will do. Thanks for the link.

I need a lot of practice to get to a close to decent level, I bet, but if Zelda is as good as it seems, I'm going to go for it. At least good enough for For Glory mode.

You know, it occurred to me that the 8-count row on the CSS makes perfect sense since IC were cut - they probably planned five nine-count rows and the one five-count row, but since IC were cut, they went with this weird thing.

I'm pretty new to smash. Been playing the demo like crazy trying to get to a decent level. It's been a lot of fun. I preordered the game today for a whopping 8 dollars. I love Best Buy

Haha! The funny thing about this article is that even though it was written to try to make peace, it will just become another thing to throw at "opponents" in the smash community's endless mud-slinging campaign.

On the contents themselves, I think the author REALLY IS a tad too "afraid of change" in that he/she is definitely exaggerating the theoretical negatives associated with Rage and VI. Sure, games will probably last longer, but as long as the game itself is fun to play/watch, who cares?! Killing in smash 4 seems to be much more important than in any other smash game, and so it really keeps an audience on the edge of its seat during final stock, 150% vs 150% battles. On that note, we really need to stop thinking about "kill percents" as what they were in brawl and (especially) melee. The percents in this game have seen some serious inflation, and so racking up damage takes a higher precedent in this game to defensive edge-stalling like in brawl or lengthy, one-read-equals-death combos like in 64. Whether this is for better or worse is subjective.

Also, that comment about melee being "objectively better" for competitiveness is bullshit. (This is coming from someone whose favorite multiplayer game ever is melee!) The word "competitive" is so often misused as meaning "fun to spectate" when in reality it means "can be played as a test of skill."

That said, when it comes to smash 4, the most important thing for me is that the game is enjoyable to play and watch. This is still TBD, but if future tournaments are anything like the Japanese one last night, than it's all good here!

As in "Heathcliff"
I don't think it'd kill you if you let yourself get excited and experienced some disappointment, lol. :)

What can I get excited for? I'm pretty much got almost all characters I wanted so I'm happy with current roster.

Dark Pit, Bowser Jr, Little Mac, Mega Man, Pac Man, Duck Hunt, Palutena, Villager, Shulk, along with newcomers that I never knew that I wanted, Robin, Wii Fit Trainer, etc.

You already got Duck Hunt and Dark Pit. Humor the possibility of DLC lol.

Not just those two. Look at my list above of your quote. :p I'm not going to humor the possibility of DLC because two characters there are on my wanted lists as well. Dixie and Ridley (for my friends.) I'm intrigued by Chorus Kid's potential moveset. Also I don't mind to see Mewtwo coming back as well. The rumor (even with reliable source) sound too good to be true.

Like I said, I'm pleased with current roster. :)

Heath just latches on to whatever brings the most sadness to others. :p

Who did I brought sadness to? *acting dumb*

Urgh, that last point.

It really encapsulated why competitive Smashing turned into a fucking joke when Brawl came out and why I personally became completely disillusioned with the scene for almost half a decade. No matter how "better" Melee was or is, this still weighs more than anything mentioned.

I've hoped for a lot of things with Smash 4, but the one thing I've hoped for the most is that the scene won't implode on itself again.

This is what I guessed the CSS looked like with Ice Climbers. I'm also going off the assumption that Dr. Mario, Lucina, Dark Pit were all alt costumes turned into clones last minute (Lucina was confirmed but not the other two.)

So time consuming. Much respect to joe.

Much respect to you guys. I think at the moment I don't have any full sets of custom moves you two don't have, but I'm pretty close to completing a lot of characters. I'm down to do some character write-ups.

The longer I play this game, the less satisfying matches are becoming. In a game with so many defensive options (dodging and shielding), and with edgehogging being taken away, there's no real good reason as to why it should be made harder to kill someone. I feel like I get to the move I feel is going to kill, but then it takes at least 2 more of those before it happens.

It's probably just growing pains, and we'll get better as we go. It's definitely the little piece of pessimism that's growing in the back of my head though.

I can't say I really agree. While all my time with the game has been only with the demo and most of it has been confined to CPU's, I feel like I'm only really challenging myself in various circumstances the higher up I procedurally bump up the difficulty, try new characters and try to come up with new strategies. What's most exciting for me when I've played is the amount of focus I put into off-stage options. More than any other Smash game I try to follow up on opponents off-stage and it adds a large amount of exciting dynamics. The more I do it, the more interesting they become. Landing those meteor smashes are just so satisfying.

Lucina and Dark Pit had to have been decided on relatively early on, though, since they were involved in trailers. I think Ice Climbers would have been far too deep into development to justifiably be in over DP, Lucina, and Dr. Mario; further, I don't think that the removal of Ice Climbers would have spurred Sakurai to add the clones.

I really wish someone besides Aerolink would pick up Palutena seriously. Seems like she's reserved for anti-projectile countering.

I only like her with custom moves on. Jump Glide makes for some awesome Marvel-esque air dashing mixups.

Yeah maybe, though I do think Lucina/Dark Pit/Dr Mario were decided after Ice Climbers were cut. A trailer doesn't take that long to make, but character balancing and stuff does.
